As per Prosecutors office spokesperson, Mariane Croes, Paulus Van der Sloot is being held in suspicion of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, NOT THE COVER UP. He is being held on the same charges as the previously four detained suspects.

A Dutch teen detained in connection with the disappearance of an Alabama teenager in Aruba has reportedly changed the story he initially gave police.
The boy’s mother told The Associated Press her son now admits to being alone with Natalee Holloway on a beach. But she said he insists he did not hurt Holloway.

Tonight on CNN’s Larry King, Prosecutors office spokesperson, Mariane Croes, said the following:
“Paulus Van der Sloot was arrested on the suspicion of premeditated murder”
All of the suspects in custody were arrested with the same charge.

KING: And why are they suspects?
CROES: At this point the general description is that they are suspected of being involved in the disappearance of Ms. Holloway. That’s the general description. But because when we arrest somebody, you have to have a reasonable suspicion of specific crimes, so at this point all the suspects are arrested on the first crime of premeditated murder.
KING: So that is — is that a charge?
CROES: At this point it is only a reasonable suspicion. The definite accusation and in American system “charge” will be made when the investigation is finished. And the prosecutor has reviewed all of the evidence pertaining to this investigation.
Also Larry King interviewed Robin Holloway, Dave Holloway and Natalee’s aunt, Marcia Twitty. Unfortunately he also had defense attorney Michael Cardoza, who really should not have been apart of this interview. Cordoza really made some insensitive comments. Transcript can be found here.

if they were saying on the news today that she may be kidnapped, and they were saying that he spent guite lot of time in the casino, wat was he doing there, watching others gambling or he was gambling too, and maybe end up owning a lot of money to ??? who may saw her with him and kidnapped her ( or some drug gang ), they also were saying that his behaviour was up and down, wasnt he doing drugs and get involved with some gang and now he is scared for his own life???

The 17 yr old dutch boy’s father was arrested as a suspect this afternoon. They say he is either covering up something or with-holding information in the case.
I personally agree with some others I read on this blog earlier today, in that it sounds like the boys could be a cover for something else. Why else would none of them break down and admit what they really know…

well, i dont really know. i am trying to let my brain rest as much as possible. i had been going crazy about this case…annoyed with the fakeness from the media and the family. someone has said that the 5th suspect is someone named lorenzo…and that he has natalee on the island. someone else mentioned that they had her in a graffiti painted van, with a large speaker in the back…and that this lorenzo person is either related to or close to joran. joran supposedly was just helping lorenzo, but no one knows if he did anything with or to natalee. is it said that the family knows this, and the reason that nat’s friends had a cookout to “raise money” for natalee’s fund was really to raise money for her ransom. supposedly no one can say anything because then the kidnappers will do something bad to nat. of course, this is all speculation, and based on what SOME of the people in aruba are saying. i am not pointing fingers at anyone, the information comes from a bunch of people. supposedly there was some sort of car chase or something, and natalee was said to be in thr car….i dont know if that came from aruba or not….and this all explains why natalee’s family is confident for the most part that she is in aruba, and that she is alive. they are getting tips on whats going on.
dont count me on this for sure, i dont really know what is truth and what is rumor.
Have anyone else noticed that FOX is only showing this story all the time so that American sheep won’t find out about any real news? Um, the United States is losing a war folks. Don’t our soldiers deserve more attention than a dumb white party girl?

To me, the possibility of a kidnapping was an opportunity for her to surface alive. Now, with Paul Van Der Sloot in jail, two thoughts come to mind: her chances of being alive have drastically decreased or if she is still alive and somebody has her captive, either van der Sloot is being detained to get information if he is really involved, or to give him protection from possible outcomes

Any satellite (infrared) of Aruba around time frame of disappearance? Could it pick up heat of small-med. sized marine vessels?

Wow! Some interesting developments. Dad knows the deal, and JVDS is covering for Dad who covered for JVDS. Here’s how, in MHO.
JVDS (most recent version) that he left NH @ beach near Marriott by herself when SK picked him up in the car. According to Greta, Kalpoe Mom says her boys (both boys) claim they left NH and JVDS @ Marriott beach, and that JVDS then walked home.
JVDS could have easily said he left NH @ Marriott beach and walked home. Why involve SK? Answer: to protect someone else and “create” a witness that he left NH @ beach alive. Who is protected? His dad who picked him up @ Marriott beach after whatever “bad” happened to NH.
Of course, Kalpoes could be lying and one or both of them did pick up JVDS and NH (or body of NH), and all got Dad/judge-in-training involved. Either way, Aruba must suspect Dad saw NH or body that night for him to be suspected as “involved in disappearance.”
Doesn’t rule in or out death vs. kidnapping. annity and Colmes claim Dad is being held as a suspect in disappearance, not cover up. How could he be involved in disappearance if she had been kidnapped when he picked up JVDS @ Marriot beach? But could have been involved in disappearance if he helped hide her body.
I want to stick with the kidnapping theory, I want NH to be alive. But the Dad and disappearance thing troubles me.
Also, interesting note: “Desaparecidos” is the word on the family-created posters, which means literally “the disappeared” in Spanish, and is a reference to people who were arrested by various South American military governments and then vanished without a trace. From 1976 to 1983 in Argentina, for example, thousands of dissidents vanished without a trace under the military junta that was in power. Wikipedia.com
I am NOT suggesting that it means any Aruban or SA gov’t involved, just that the work carries a connotation that the circumstances surrounding the disappearance involve capture and restraint similar to a kidnapping, and the signs are more evidence that the family believes, or believed, she was kidnapped.
Any thoughts, esp. from Arubans familiar with Papamiento (sp?) and the local connotation of “desaparecidos”?

I read a lot of your posts today and I think it was you that said you are obsessed with this case. My fiance finds it strange that I have become obsessed with it as well. I have no idea why I’m so intrigued by it, as I hardly ever watch the news. But ever since this happened, I can’t stop reading about it. Anyway, thanks for all the great posts and helpful info. It is very frustrating to not know the progress, if any. I hope the kidnapping thing is true and she is still alive.

BUT, the increase in reward to $150K and involvement of bank in AL makes me think K&R scenario. Bank wires $$ to numbered account, gives kidnappers account # anonymously. Kidnappers confirm $$ in numbered account and turn over NH.

As Bill Oreilly said in one of his reports, this crime has struck a cord in all of us, or most of us, because Natalee Holloway could be anyone’s child, sister, fiance, or girlfriend. It’s a heads up warning and we wonder about the how and why of this happening to someone so innocent and with such potential. She was headed home for Christ’s sake. It reminds us that each time we walk out our front door, we MUST be vigilant always, because danger is everywhere, in every form.
Subdude – Of course it would be wonderful if there were a kidnapping/ranson paid scenario. Personally I do not believe so. The Alabama bank involvement is logical – it’s common in this area for the banks to get involved to collect money for situations such as this. Also, the Holloways are well connected – this includes banks – they will use an institution they trust. This community is committed to solving this case – the bond is unbelievable – when you combine that with their social status, it is very normal for institutions and people to be involved that would not normally be involved in your average missing person case.

I think this is a starting point to explain how collective minds can influence actual physical events, including the potential outcomes of this case.

I guess everybody is asleep, I am very tired also. This case has me gripped. We are all shocked here in aruba about Senior’s detention. It is difficult to see the big picture today because of all the emotions. But The K&R still stands. May NH be reunited with us. Goodnite all. Be good to your loved ones.

I think the reason they got a bank involved is because honest people won’t contribute except to a reputable institution. People are generous, but they don’t want to be ripped off. I am going to send my check marked “reward”.
I think she is still alive and if they have a prayer of getting her back the money has to be big enough to provide incentive, safety, security, etc. for the informant.
Remember, either the fund may be paying off a powerful cartel, or paying an individual to go against a powerful cartel. Even given a more benine kidnapping, at the very least the informant is most likely a neighbor, family member or friend of the VDS’s. They will probably need a way to get off the island and start a new life if they tell this tale.
I pray they get Natalee back alive. Soon. My family is starting to get annoyed when I stay up till three reading blogs! LOL! And I’ve never been a blogger before. Nat is everyone’s daughter. She may or may not have made an error in judgement, but she was a target. Girls that age always are. I have a daughter and I worry about her too. Beth, we are all right there with you girl! I believe that any new version of the facts Joran tells investigators were coming from dad Van Der Sloot directly to son, then later through mother Van Der Sloot.
The new version where Joran says he was with Natalee at the beach and left her alone there, is another lie. That lie certainly was to support the theory that Natalee may have been kidnapped by some people from Aruba or from a different country (Venezuela, Colombia, Suriname), and to conclude that he is innocent.
But each lie they tell makes things worse for them. Only the truth will help them. I hope mother Van Der Sloot wakes up and starts to pressure husband and son, and the Kalpoes to tell the truth.

Hey observer – I don’t think anybody here was DEFENDING the VDS family. They were just saying that they are innocent until proven guilty. This is the way our (and the US system) works, and that’s the way it should be. Also, I have every faith in the Dutch judicial system, and I doubt if things would have gone any differently if the US media were not on top of this story. Settle down, man.
I think Observer is a bit upset from all the Dutch/Aruban trolls of the Dutch GS-forum who passed by here yesterday and at Riehl making silly Dutch remarks and being rude towards the American posters. It took 40 years to find Killen guilty of 3 murders in Alabama. Give us a break and let the local investigators do their job so that we can have answers already.
As for elder vdS, he wasn’t home when the police came to arrest him. His neighbor called him and he called the police commissioner who informed him that he will be detained. Elder vdS then went to the police station himself.
something like that should not happen and thus is always bad timing and bad luck. what estranges me, it that usually somebody can be “cracked” for the truth withing 10 days, a kid especially. why don’t we have it yet? because it simply is not in joran? after they have wasted the vdS and found out nothing on the whereabouts of NH, then what? i need to believe in something and i still believe in the K/R scenario. but this is a tough morning.

I don’t think they would hide a corpse on the Island, too small and rocky grounds.
But, search first I gues to rule it out.
If the ‘murderer’ panicked he would go for the ocean.
If he/they used a boat they could have gone out to sea, and let the corpse sink in deeper waters.
We might end up with no corpse at all.

Baffling. All of it. When you look at how so many involved on both sides (parents, chaperones, friends, students, bar patrons and the detainees) have not said much of anything useful in order to further the case, I personally have to wonder if the kidnapping theory could be right on. Considering all the talk especially on the blogs about the kidnapping theory in the last couple days(all monitored I’m sure) maybe the heat was being turned up a little too much and they needed to move and do something big to take the attention away, like arresting the father. Don’t know, one thing is for sure, if they would arrest the father under pure diversion purposes, and essentially hang 2/3 of the VDS family out to dry, as if they are the responsible parties, while other scenarios play out, the players in those scenarios must be huge.
And remember, if the kidnapping scenario has been brought up in the inner circle, and I’m sure it has, why no more media talk of that option? Without a body, unsure why that scenario would not be discussed as well, but beyond the blogs, it really has not been focused on.
And my apologies to the blog, but I did not force SHOCK to leave. I was not nasty or mean to him, only gave my opinion on his completely cryptic clues. He can get a backbone folks as I didn’t attack him personally so he left this blog on his own accord, cryptic clues and all.

I did!! I think the Holloways have been told there is a very big chance that she could have been kidnapped, and they are trying to work with the authorities to get her back. The one question on my mind this morning is Joran VanDer Sloot. He has “once again” changed his story. Now he is admitting to being alone with Natalee on the beach, had a good time with her, THEN HE LEFT HER THERE. What kind of person leaves a non-native girl on a foreign beach alone by herself at 2:00 in the morning!! Just some little skank looking to get him worm wet! I don’t believe that though for one second…I believe he was on the beach with her, had his way with her, and then traded her to someone else. Maybe a gang, maybe someone he had connections with to get some money for his gambeling habits. He’s a snake…..I hope he is getting his butt plugged every night in that jail.

It’s so damn heartbreaking for N’s family. IMO, I think N is an innocent naive young girl, caught up in the excitement of the partying on a beautiful island….I know the feeling. I was lucky though. I went on a trip to Mexico when I was 18 with my best gal friend. While I was there, I met a good looking guy and my girlfriend left me alone with him and we went partying until dawn. I was lucky enough that he is a kind and gentle person and we have been together now for 7 years and married for 3 years. But you never know how it could have turned out. I just hope that Natalee’s family will be able to be at peace one day………

i noticed how the parents are trying to clear their boys’s names now. joran left her on the beach because he wanted to go home. that he had school the next day. whatever. the kalpoe mom says her boys told her they didn’t do anything, but that they stay out late all the time. even the parents are contradictory.

I did not read Krstin say that. I did see her worries about me. They were well founded. But I am OK. Sad and afraid, but OK.
We have to imagine ourselves, if possible, in this situation. Under stress kids can say strange things. They don’t fully realize the consequences of what they say in this world. The fine line between youth and adulthood is one many of us have gotten into trouble for. Even though we did nothing wrong. I can imagine that has happened here.

My heart goes out to Mother Anita VDS as well…that poor woman is a bit naive and now, her life will never be the same. I hope all people can see now, what we as Mother’s go through and must endure. It is one of the most difficult jobs in the world, and being a good Mother is rewarding, but at best draining !! The moments of joy that are returned are all worth it. I hope some more answers soon can bring both of these Moms and all of the families peace. Sadly, I still have an awful feeling Natalee is not alive. Only the truth will help them. And Mother VDS should start to pressure them to tell the truth and help locate Natalee.

Please elaborated on your comment to me: you hope I am never in the wrong place with the wrong person at the wrong time. Why say something like that, and not back it up…..finish it. I am only 23 and I have traveled to A LOT of places. First, I would have and will never leave a bar with 3 locals..I don’t care how drunk I am…I know what goes on…I don’t need sex that bad. Second, anyone I was with would NEVER let me leave a bar by myself, third, I was raised better than that….As far as we know Natalee and her mother could have not had a good relationship. Her family has money…you tend to see some messed up kids coming from families with money…however I don’t feel that is the case here. I think Natalee just made a bad decision to leave with them, and now all her loved ones are paying the price.

I think the reactions of yesterday’s event, on the part of NH’s family took a turn that may work against a happy ending. I got the impresiion that diverse reactions showed that this search and its developments are more now about pride, show of force and personal competitiveness.
Seeing Mr. Twitty almost ecstatic talking about all he has done, his brothers’ involvement, , that he coordinated with his brother the Texas search party, Observers reactions to kidnap theorists, make me think that southern pride is now the primary motivation. The wide exposure may have shifted the objective from finding Natalee ALIVE, to showing muscles.

The Greta and other Foxnews coverage have not only been great, but I think it has begun to affect Nancy Grace. She is really acting weird, overdoinh herself, doesn’t let her guests speak, only she has opinions and tries to use her guests air time to force responses. But she DID leave with the boys…everyone with her at the club that night said that….she wasn’t dragged out of there…She left with them, because she had the hopes of hooking up on vacation…with Joran…..nothing more. I do think Joran slipped something in her drink while she may have been dancing or in the bathroom whatever, but timeline: the boys got there around 12:00, if he put something in her drink, he was probably talking and dancing with her at first, and didn’t put it in until about close to one, and if that is the case it I’m guessing it would have taken a little bit to kick in? maybe 15 min? I don’t know….I have never been drugged. But I don’t think ANYONE would have let them take her out of there if she had been dragging or had to be carried away. CHECKME/CRS – Pardon the rude comments last night. I was out and had a few beers beforehand. However, I still stand by the substance of my comments:
1) It is very unlikely that the authorities would arrest dad and son VDS merely to serve as a decoy and fool the kidnappers, while the authorities continue an underground plot to find the real “bad guys”. The VDS would not voluntarily surrender to that pressure, and I would think the Holloways would want the authorities to expend their resources more efficiently. Maybe you have a point that the Aruban police is going after the VDS only in response to US political/media pressure, regardless of who actually committed the crime – but I don’t think the HOlloways would accept that – they want to find NH and find who did this to her, and would know (from gut instincts and their own investigation work) whether or not the VDS family is guilty — essentialy, the Holloways would not permit the VDS family to be a scapegoat.
The locals had a strong suspicion that NH was kidnapped the last couple of days. Why don’t you guys give an anonymous tip to the police w/ your info so that they can release your respectable Dutch VDS family.
2) The American media pressure forced the Aruban authorities to speed up their work, arrest the 3 boys after letting them go initially, and investigate more leads. Without the media pressure, the 2 black security guards who were initially identified would be tried for murder right now.
3) The Dutch and Arubans are good people, just like people in other countries. I just wish people had the courage to speak up against their own neighbors and fellow citizens if they did something wrong, regardless of the consequences on the image of their locality. Not suggesting that’s the case in Aruba but I sorta saw it.

Yes, everytime the father has made a call on this case, he has been right. Last night he said he was “confident” this case would be resolved. That is why I believe they are close to going public with the kidnapping theory. I expect one more arest though before it happens. Once that does, this case is going public with every detail to find the kidnappers or Natalee will just surface because the ransom demands have been met to the kidnappers satisfaction.

I have been told that the date rape drug is very similar to the drug used for outpatient surgury, where one is unconcious, but will take commands and can even walk around. I experinced this and I do not remember moving from the OR to the recovery area. If that is what was used, I can understand a great deal more about her actions at the club and in the parking lot.

OK, Beth’s interview on FOX that she believes NH was kidnapped by the 3 men seems a bit credible. But that still means that the 3 boys (and maybe Paul VDS) either kidnapped her or gave her up to someone else — there is no way the 3 boys are not involved (and probably Paulus in a coverup or accessory). Why would the VDS give her to someone else — was Paulus VDS involved in human trafficking?

if a date rape drug was used (and went “bad” like JVDS said in the first place) then that would explain his slime ball, evasive, ever changing story profile.

did she OD when she was with him and was left for dead in a panic? (most likely if a drug was used) but where is the body?
did she die in his presence and then was left on the beach? (similar to first scenario)
but where is the body?
did she die in his presence (drugged) after he had sex with her causing panic leading to the disposal of her body? (quite likely)
was she left for dead, then came to and was accosted by someone else? (far fetched -this is the defense JVDS will use)

I can not comment too much on what was confiscated by authorities in Aruba, but I can tell you that some people had some of their memory sticks taken by authorities, but I can not give dates and locations that the footage was taken.

Although it is totally unreasonable for me to think I could have changed anything in the situation I was close to, I played “what if.” I had plenty of time over the past several years to learn about putting the blame where it truly belongs – on the preditor.

I cannot agree yet that they have hard evidence against PvdS and that that is the reason for arresting him. There could very well be holes, conflicts, suspucions and accusations against him. It seems that the results are in from the Dutch forensics (why so very late). Possibly comparing DNA samples with NH parents. vdS could be covering something and the hard evidence could show this, but this will still not implicate a criminal act. It would have to be cells from NH in that case.

I think that what happens to the people in Aruba is that they don’t like to be in the spotlight of any negative news so that it doesn’t scare away the tourist. Yolande they were working that night, we all remembered them because they were very friendly and we were all talking to them on first name basis by the end of the night. Joran leaves C&C with the brothers and Nat. She was drunk. The brothers leave them at the beach for some fun. Natalee passes out, and Joran calls his father to come and pick him up, because he went out with a tourist girl, and she passed out and he doesn’t know what to do. The father gets there only to find that she wasn’t passeed out, she was dead. The father and son panic, and dispose of the body.

Several people have asked my opinion of “the Holloway case.” I don’t have one, at least not where guilt, innocence, or even what happened is concerned. How could I? “American” – there are thirty-four other countries in the hemisphere, you know – news media have turned the incident into the latest scumsucker feast – all heat and no light. I don’t watch or listen (as soon as it comes on, I switch to Galavision, the Mexican channel).
A fast briefing from a coffee shop friend willing to admit that he watches stupefying trash like this (this is NATIONAL news?) gets me as far as the fact that Natalee Holloway is missing. No body. No evidence. No evidence of “foul play.” There are no suspects (the last people to be seen with a missing person are NOT suspects).
It does appear that Aruban authorities are beginning to bow to massive pressure from the U.S. and its corrupt media. In this country, of course, it is all-important that someone be arrested, tried. and convicted. “Closure,” it’s called. It is not important that the convicted be the perpetrator of the crime. If someone pays, those clamoring fof “closure.” have their revenge. More than a hundred, twenty five (that we know of – statistical analysis suggests that the number is more like a thousand) innocent men found guilty of rape have been proved innocent by science, but provided necessary “closure” for females and the effeminate society. Everybody was happy.
So, our pandering media demand an arrest in Aruba, all the while searching for the next scumsucker smorgasbord and serving of grist for pander.
Meanwhile, real news – news of national impact and importance, that is – is conveniently drowned out. Social Security and the nation’s economy continue their death spiral. Illegal aliens, a huge percentage of them murderous and/or sexual predator criminals, pour across the border not only unimpeded by government, but aided and abetted by capitalists in seach of exploitable labor. The death toll in Iraq and Afghanistan mounts. Young men and women Natalee Holloway’s age lose arms, legs, and their lives daily. The admitted toll (you’ll be able to get it on NPR for a while longer, then it’ll be the foreign media) of our own young men and women has gone past 1700, and the actual toll (that’s including the “private” military – CIA proprietary company) may exceed even that number (the CIA lies, you know).
People here in the coffee shop say the last people to see a missing person are, indeed, logical suspects. I beg to differ: the last people to seen a missing person are not suspect. That’s a logical absurdity. A few years ago, a man disappeared under circumstances not unlike those here. He was missing for years. No suspects (no one knew who had seen him last – thank god). When a psychic was called in by police, the man and his pickup – also missing – were located at the bottom of a water-filled quarry. Lost on a country road, he had driven over a cliff, fallen into the water, and drowned.
If someone had been seen with this guy with anyone, and authorities had followed the nitwit procedure demanded by investigative geniuses like Greta Van Susteren, Bill O’Reilly, and the paragon of cool reason and rhetoric Sean Hannity, someone would have gone to jail. Meanwhile, O. J. Simpson and Michael Jackson are innocent. Great system you’ve got here, folks.

Natalee could be out of the island and not be seen for years or ever. Kidnapped. And these party boys could honestly know diddley about it. I rented a motorcycle in Aruba and used to go see the planes come in for landing. Right off the street, I remember seeing the fences surrounding the airport flattened out on the ground or just plain not there in some areas. I mean, why haven’t they considered so much or mention the fact that this girl could be in Yemen right now… this is one of the simplest and easiest things that could have happened to an enebriated young, blond, american girl hanging out at 2:30 AM on an island where local “business men” could make a lot of money doing this. Maybe Joram was in on it… who knows? Why all this speculation? Because I’m really having a hard time believing that she was just killed… and that all these 3 boys together killed her that night. The only chance I may consider is that Joram lost it and killed her on his own and the other two don’t know it… even maybe accidentally. If he had a way to get a small boat, he could have hidden her body at whatever beach they were at and then go get her by water in the a.m hours to the location. Put her in the boat and dump her somewhere a mile or two out at sea… he could’ve also enlisted his father to help him hide the body in a car and drive to the boat. Dutch boy made a cell phone call at around 3:30 am… So this is not so far fetched either, and indeed very possible. If the Indian boys knew anything about this, they would have ratted a long time ago… friendship or not. I believe they don’t know what happened after they dropped Joram off with Natalee. Besides, the only way this can work is if you don’t have any witnesses. Or if the only witness and accomplice is your own father. Natalee is not on the Island… there are no witnesses…. Joram, if he did it…is NEVER going to confess…. he only knows too well how lucky he’s been to get rid of the body without a trace. All he has to do is keep quiet. The same for Daddy if he’s involved. Case closed. I don’t thing this is ever going to be resolved. I’m very sorry for Natalee and her family… I do hope that sometime in the future she is released from a Harem somewhere in Yemen… and returns to her family at least alive. I truly wish that Natalee is alive in Caracas somewhere. I feel sorr y
her poor parents that are so diligently trying to find her. She was shark bait 4 weeks ago. They need to go home and let the authorities try to find some evidence. Unfortunately, I don’t believe that they will find anything. The only thing anyone can do now is pray that she will be found and the family can have closure to this tragedy.
I agree with everything that Julian says and have thought it over and over and almost in the same words. The tragedy also is not knowing – I know what it is like to lose a child at 18 and if Natalie doesn’t turn up – the parents lives are changed forever and their pain is ongoing. I wish that I could go to Aruba and help the Holloway Family.
I pray that God will help the family and that the past month of searching will lessen the pain in some way. It is almost overwhelming to see how all of the people have come together to help this family in such a tragedy. God bless American andGod bless the family and all of the many helpers.
