The father of a Dutch teen held in the disappearance of American Natalee Holloway was himself arrested Thursday, the Aruba chief prosecutor’s office announced.
“My husband was just picked up by police,” Anita van der Sloot, referring to Paul van der Sloot, said in a telephone call to The Associated Press. “I don’t know what to think.”
A spokesperson for the office said he would be held for at least six hours while prosecutors question him about the case. No further details were available.

An Aruban judge, the father of a 17-year-old suspect in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager, has also been arrested in the case, a prosecution spokesperson said Thursday.
Paul Van Der Sloot is now being viewed as a suspect in the case of Natalee Holloway, a missing 18-year-old from suburban Birmingham, Alabama, Mariaine Croes said. He was arrested about 2 p.m. Thursday.
On Wednesday, Holloway’s mother said more individuals “need to be pursued” in connection with the case.

The father is officially detained, due to the investigation. They speculate it is because of the interfering in the investigation, but the official says, no he is detained because of possible involvement in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
We have contacts in Aruba that are saying that maybe Steve Croes and the 2 Surinam brothers will be released, seems it is being focused now on van der Sloot family.

CNN is reporting that Aruban sources are saying that Paulus Van Der Sloot is being arrested an accessory after the fact because the Kalpoe’s are saying they made up the “drop off at the Holiday Inn ” story and Paulus (father) may have assisted Joran (son) in that story or supported that story. He will be facing a 6 hour interrogation.

Mariaine Cruz, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office, told MSNBC that the elder Van Der Sloot was taken into custody at about 2 p.m. Aruba time. Cruz said the arrest was “based on the reasonable suspicion that he is involved in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. He is currently under interrogation at a police station.”
According to Cruz, Aruban law allows police to interrogate him for six hours, then prosecutors have the ability to hold him for an additional period of 48 hours if it is determined that he has additional information vital to the case.
Paul Van Der Sloot had previously been questioned by police about the case, but it is not known what was discussed at that previous interrogation.

when the 3 young guys were arrested they said “something bad happened”…in fact DID something “bad” happen and the young van der Sloot went to his father for help? If he did help his son to get “rid of a body”, he is finished! If Natalee is still alive…where is she? In a house of ill repute, trafficked by these men?

“Something bad happened” Natalee died accidentally more than likely; drowning could she have been druged and either she overdosed or drowned because she was drugged? Definetly a possibility. I bet Paulus cracks and tells the whole story. Because when the incident occured Joran called pops and pops freaked out and did the first thing in his mind. Help my son cover this nightmare up, it will be hard for the cops to connect us as long as we keep our mouth shut. Gurantee he knows the whole story and will spill the beans.

Sounds like Natalee died (for whatever reason. . accidental or murder) The kids tried to cover it up but realize they couldn’t. So Joran calls his dad and tells him what happened. Dad realizes his son is already in way over his head, panics. . .and continues on with the cover up of her death.

I believe that someone slipped her something in her drink at the bar, she had some sort of allergic reaction or medical reaction, she died at that point, Joran calls his dad who creates this story, the Kalpo’s call their buddy the boat driver and all 5 of them take the boat out in the ocean with her body at 2-3 AM and get rid of the body. This is speculation only! I think the young van der sloot or somone gave NH the date rape drug. They got to the beach, she might have overdosed, he called his dad, they called croes, paid him some money to dump the body… Im not starting rumors, I just think it might be a posibility.

edie — it looks like one of two things — (1) your scenario, where they get in trouble and call dad, and then call SGC to help dispose of the body, or (2) alternatively, they involve SGC in the rape and then call dad when things go badly. I have problems with both scenarios — in the first, why would SGC implicate hmself in this sordid event? In the latter, why would they invite him to share NH? But I think one of the two occurred, with (2) being more likely.

I am glad someone else has mentioned Sylvia Browne. She I believe is the real deal. If I had the opportunity to talk with her mother I would suggest they speak to her.
The father vdS is being detained under the same ‘title’ (if you will) of suspicion of committing a crime – the crime itself is not known.
Under Dutch law – as you must all be aware by now that you don’t have to formally charge someone with a specific crime to keep them detained. If it were US law here, the 3 kids would have been let go long ago and the case would go cold.
I really dont believe Joran represents the whole dutch community. We cannot blame the people of aruba for some individuals actions. We cannot blame other members of other countries for things their criminals do. Calm down before writing heated words that make you feel ashamed to be human after that.

How about one of the taxi boats they use to take people out further to the big boats that can’t be docked ashore.
You don’t need a boat to get rid of a body. The currents near the Marriott are strong enough that if a body were thrown there, the body would have been carried far out.
I don’t see them throwing a body in the water that close to where someone else could see them…..they would have either used a boat or would have went on the north side of the island where the current is really strong and is more isolated.

Joran never intended for NH to overdose on the date rape drugs he gave to her that night,
Joran received the drugs from the brothers he was with that night. (This is why the two brothers are in custody still) Joran gave them to NH and when the two were dropped off alone that night, NH died between the alcohol and drugs she had administered that fateful early morning. Joran panicked and called his father, Told his father a lie.. and Paul Van Der Sloot came to his sons rescue by calling in SGC.. to help dispose of NH’S Body. and this is why the 5 men have been detained.

I have heard that daddy taught young van der sloot how to gamble. Possibly owed excessive gambling debt, or son did. Possible that person owed money threw out new repayment terms- $ forgiven in exchange for providing access to young woman. If so, Natalee would be worth nothing to the payee dead, and if debt not resolved either by paying $ or in exchange for live woman, I’m not sure either of the van der sloots would be still alive, or at least would have incurred mysterious knee injuries. Maybe father and son could keep a secret, but a non-related 3rd party could hang them out to dry.

If her drink was spiked with date rape drugs or extasy, she had no control over herself through no fault of her own. She did not run to other islands she had no passport.(It was in her room) and limited money.

And I mean after these people. Geraldo who just had a “show” about the murder of Natelee, was right up front in 1996, when all the press convicted these innocent people of killing their own daughter. The same Geraldo had a fake jury and judge convict these people on national television of sexually assaulting their six year old daughter.
Using a tasser on her, and killing her with a string around her neck, in their own basement.
Thanks to the efforts of LOU SMIT a retired detective, the case had an unexpected turn of events. He found proof of an intruder, and he proofed that the parents were in fact innocent of the murder of their only child. Because the police, press and prosecutors did not want to follow any leads other than leads to the parents. There is still a murderer walking around who has this on his conscious.
And there are two heartbroken parents who lost their daughter and everything they worked for. Because of mainly “the news” they cannot get new jobs, and their lives are ruined.
