Morning Edition

Good Morning Viet Nam!

I feel like the Adrian Cronauer character as this story goes along. We all know what we are involved in is a mess, but peoples lives and livelihoods are at stake, not to mention the poor Holloway and Twitty families and the people of Mountain Brook.

We seem to be have breaking news on a daily basis, that at the end of the day is not so breaking and not so news. However, FOX CNN MSNBC stops the world on it and since we are knee deep into this story, we are going to keep at it.

From everything we know at this moment, there was a massive search yesterday outside of the Marriott. There were a pair of panties found, but from my perspective, they were not a size that is fashionable for that age group.

This morning there will be some court action as Van Der Sloots father petitions the court to see his son in jail. For some reason the court has refused him visitation and he is trying to rectify that.

Top 95, the Aruban station that has been covering the story the best has coverage this morning that the JD in the case (judge) has told Van der Sloot’s Attorney Anthony Carlos, that he is not allowed to be Van der Sloots attorney anymore. Supposedly, he talked to people who had statements against Van der Sloot, and in the Dutch legal system, that is against procedure. So the Attorney is off to court to fight that motion too. This information comes from our correspondent and good friend Aruba Girl.

Texas Rick one of our regular posters put up a very good synopsis of what has recently happened in our comments. Click here to read it.

Reader David sent in this article on the FBI’s role from the Caribbean Net News. Looks like the Aruban’s are not using every reasource as Aruba Girl mentioned that there are 38 agents down in Aruba at the present. Bet they are a happy bunch.

I am sure more will happen with the case today, but for now this is  Adrian Cronauer signing off.

Update: Texas Rick is on a roll this morning. He also found this nugget of an article from The Caribbean Net News about a radio station blacklisting the Caribbean due to the Natalee Holloway story.

Well guys another day and no new leads. With no trace of NH on the island, I have an idea that the Aruban authorities should think about looking in the trash transfer station or whatever the island does with its trash. I’m sure an island that small does not have a landfill. I’m guessing that Aruba would have to send its trash to to the mainland, either Venezuela or Guayana. The 3 guys in jail are confident that she won’t be found on the island or they would have already spilled their guts.

How many barges of trash leave the island daily? Expand the search!

    2. Sarah on June 15th, 2005 8:21 am

I wonder if Natalee’s family has access to your website. They really need to know all the inside scoop that you guys are reporting. I wonder if the Aruban police are really keeping them informed.

One thing I wondered though someone commented that they saw Natalee’s mom at the search scene yesterday crying, but I read a comment this morning that she “couldn’t watch what was going on” . So was she there and just couldn’t watch.. or did she stay in the room during the search. They really shouldn’t comment that they saw her crying there at the scene if they wasn’t sure it was her.

    3. LowLands on June 15th, 2005 8:53 am

      Sarah…
It was Natalee’s aunt who just coudn’t watch it…..

    4. Atletico on June 15th, 2005 8:57 am

Are there a lot of sharks etc. in the waters surrounding the island?
I could imagine that, when dumped in the sea, the body would be eaten by now and they never find something back.
      I hope not.
Following this from the other side of the world.
      A concerned Dutchman.

      I didn’t even think about trash!!! Definitely a “must-search”

    6. crs on June 15th, 2005 9:16 am

The two most interesting things on the news last night was, one, Geraldo, reported that the chief investigator in the case reportedly said regaring Joran Van Der Sloot, “How can I do this to him, he is my best friend’s son”, which tells me there is a prejudice to help this kid. The other interesting thing was on Joran’s new story as far as being dropped off at home and then Natalee was left in the car with them. Apparantly, Joran’s house is close to the brothers house so why would they take him all the way home, drive all the way back with Natalee, then drive all the way back to their house, that does not make any sense.

    7. RunningFromArlene on June 15th, 2005 9:17 am

      Sarah,

The Holloway family is aware of this site… and others…but after speaking to an uncle, they have stopped reading all blogs because there is just too much mis-information… I have been monitoring… especially from Aruba Girl… and Riehl World as well…. to pass on any information that they might need to know… but, the American FBI is with the family in Aruba….. and they ensure me that the communication from the authorities is much better now…. Pray for all of them…. it is beginning to hit home financially as well for several of the members who are in Aruba…. and mentally draining as they have left children back in the states during these weeks away from home…

    8. crs on June 15th, 2005 9:20 am

      Running from Arlene -

Please do not tell me you are saying that the family members are having to pay to stay in Aruba while they search for Natalee! I hope you mean they are struggling because they are not able to go to their jobs. Someone should start a fund to help the family.

    9. RunningFromArlene on June 15th, 2005 9:22 am

The Holiday Inn is giving them rooms to stay… they are paying for renting vehicles to aid in the search…plus printing fliers… etc… they were very proactive in the beginning in setting this in motion…. and please don’t believe the news.. all of these family members are not wealthy…

    10. Leo[NY] on June 15th, 2005 9:22 am

I would really hope Natalee’s family is not reading comments on this website , Me and a lot of people come here looking for information, but let’s face it , we have to find the good information between a lot of stuff that get’s posted that is trash, rumours, ignorance and unproven conspiracy theories. Unfortunatly some of us have a very little patience and with the lack of new headlines we start talking about rumours as if it were fact.

Media-wise this whole thing was a disaster waiting to happen from day one, putting an unproportional large part of U.S. media attention on a very small country whos laws don’t allow the prosecutor to reveal facts in the media about a case untill formal charges are filed.

    11. AnnapolisArubaFan on June 15th, 2005 9:28 am

      well put, Leo

    12. RunningFromArlene on June 15th, 2005 9:28 am

Leo….. perfect wording…that is why they refuse to even watch Fox News at this point…. too much hurt has already been created by misinformation….. hopefully, closure is somehow near…. yesterday was a huge downer when no new evidence was produced… but, these kids are going to break.. it’s a matter of time……

Interesting to hear the the father hasn’t been allowed to see Joran and is fighting for that right today?? Is this documented truth in Aruba?

I hate to say it, but I do not think this case will get solved. The three wanna-be-gangsta punks in jail have been able to avoid breaking under the “pressure” of the Aruban authorities. The statement the chief investigator said, “How can I do this to him, he is my best friend’s son”, when talking about Van Der Sleaze, shows the corrupt and unprofessional nature that this police department wallows in. I would at least hope they would ask for more than minimal assistance from the FBI. One report said the FBI divers weren’t even allowed in the water. Why are the Aruban authorities going to these great lengths to protect these three punks? Mayb e they are really hard core gangstas and have the police by the short and curlies. But I doubt it. Everyone must continue to call for a call to BOYCOTT ARUBA to put pressure on these bufoons to actually do something to find Natalee. Mark my words, if they find her it will be because a volunteer found something, not because the police found anything. They just want to cover up and hope it goes away. BOYCOTT ARUBA to pressure them to do something or accept help from the FBI. BOYCOTT ARUBA!!!!

    15. crs on June 15th, 2005 10:00 am

How long before the media leaves and this story falls off the radar? I think without the american media there, this story would have been shoved under the rug.

    16. Pays Bas on June 15th, 2005 10:06 am

Dutch press this morning ran two articles about Holloways dissapearance. The ‘Algemeen Dagblad’ and ‘Nederlands Dagblad’ both ran stories about how the search is still ongoing and both had pictures with the story. Only the ND version is free, so here’s the link for the people who can read dutch. It’s mainly about the search and the flak the Aruban government is getting from the media.

      http://www.nd.nl/newsite/artikel.asp?id=63636

Remember in The Netherlands this is not a big thing, a railroadstrike this friday and a cougar (puma/poema) on the lose is much bigger over here. But I am glad to see the dutch press is taking notice now that the investigation is quite slow. And if the press over here takes notice, politicians will do the same. Tomorrow the dutch press organisation GPD will run a reconstruction of this case in most newspapers over here. If any new facts are mentioned I will post them here of course.

    17. Dutch Girl on June 15th, 2005 10:08 am

To I am a hater…you need to get a life! This has never happened in Aruba before and there is NO need to boycott Aruba. The authorities are doing all that they can. I have inside information from Aruba locals that Natalee and her friends were not what you call “perfect angels”. This is a tragedy but could have happened in her home town. So please get off your high horse and insults to the locals of Aruba. I used to live in Aruba and the people are wonderful!

    18. Jake on June 15th, 2005 10:17 am

Did you hear the latest News?

The father, a high-ranking judicial official in Aruba, “is going to file a motion to see his son,” police spokesman Edwin Comemencia told The Associated Press.

    19. I'm a Hater on June 15th, 2005 10:17 am

      Dutch Girl-
No one is disagreeing that this could have happened in anyplace. The point is that the Aruban authtorites can’t do anything right to try to solve the case. They can’t solve it because they are corrupt and inept. I am sure there are wonderful people in Aruba, but why should tourists support a place that is controlled by money from drugs, human trafficking and tourism? You mean to tell me that when something goes wrong they can’t even solve the case and refuse help from the FBI. Give me a break. The only reason they are doing anything is because of the spotlight they have on them now. That sounds like a place I want to support. The best thing we can do to find Natalee is to put pressure on these clowns by calling for a boycott. So until then I will continue to ride my high horse. BOYCOTT ARUBA!!!!

    20. Tara on June 15th, 2005 10:18 am

Dutch Girl, I agree with you 100%. Aruba and its people should not be held accountable for the actions of 3 guys who aren’t even local….

    21. I'm a Hater on June 15th, 2005 10:20 am

      Tara-
Good idea, Aruba should not be responsible for things that happen within its borders. That is probably the thinking that allows them to let drugs run through the country.

    22. Atletico on June 15th, 2005 10:20 am

Dutch Girl: “The people are wonderful” That is why the Dutch government is throwing up al kind of barriers for all people from the Antilles who want to come to the Netherlands. And that is why all people from the Antilles have to go through a scan to see if they don’t transport drugs in their stomach….
OK, I’m sorry, perhaps this is a superficial remark.
But I think the frustration is not against the people living in Aruba, but against the amateurish way the police and other officials are dealing with this. And perhaps the threat of a boycot will force them to do a better job.

    23. Kris on June 15th, 2005 10:23 am

      I’m a Hater,

What about the drugs that run through the US?

    24. A guy on June 15th, 2005 10:23 am

Hey Dutch Girl…you said this has never happened before in Aruba and well that may be but it has happened now and those not-even-third-world buffoons that are running this investigation obviously are overmatched and outgunned by a couple of thugs that have murdered a young girl. I live in the town and went to high school where Natalee graduated and feel as though this investigation is at the least, a cover-up, and at best, a joke! There is a first time for everything and maybe you guys have seen the start of a lot of this kind of trouble. How can 3 punks have the whole island by the balls! This whole mess wreaks of a cover-up from the top down. The people there may be wonderful, as you say, but it only takes a few bad apples to ruin a whole bushel. The FBI is there and a close freind of mine who works out of the office that they all came from says they are not being utilized AT ALL! Why is this? It seems that the authorities are TRYING to keep this thing from being reesolved…go figure!!

    25. crs on June 15th, 2005 10:26 am

Put simply, the arubans have bungled this case from day one. I don’t think anyone holds all arubans accountable, however, for the family to get closure I think both media coverage and a continued fall in tourism is essential. By all accounts, people have begun to cancel trips to Aruba and quite honestly this does aide in finding Natalee. Aruba seems to understand one thing, money….and the simple fact is the Natalee Holloway case is hurting tourism.

    26. The Big Picture on June 15th, 2005 10:28 am

Thousands of people are murdered or disappear every year. Yet this story has gotten a disproportionate amount of attention. Is that good or bad? The NH story has struck a symbolic chord among many of us, particularly those white upper middle class Americans (which include myself) who view the world as our oyster and pleasure an entitlement. Regardless of what happens, and I pray for NH and her family, but given all of the attention this case has received, I hope that all of us learn something from it and use it as an excuse to make the world a better place. More specifically:

      1) What kind of example are we as parents setting for our children that they want to spend our or their hard-earned money and time on a post-HS graduation party and gambling junket? The good news is that thousands of young adults go on these trips every year, and almost all return, but I hope that the statistics next year show significantly fewer of these trips occurring. Why not instead go away with your family on a sports retreat, or with your church on a mission trip? It would not surprise me to see legislation restricting the ability to of promoters to put these trips together, and such promoters who continue to do so should be boycotted.

      2) Aruba has been and will remain a safe place. My hometown, NYC, has seen bad things happen to tourists as well. The NYPD places an extreme emphasis on patrolling against predators of tourists, and given the scrutiny that this case has received, Aruba and the other islands need to do the same-they need be aware of which of their citizens are patrolling on Saturday and Sunday nights for last night visitors, and otherwise keep people out of trouble. Drug dealing must also be enforced.

      3) NYC has not been negatively affected by bad tourist events because people know these things happen and these crimes are aggressively investigated and prosecuted. This is the biggest problem in this case. Unless Aruba wants to see a tourist boycott, which at this point would be well-deserved, it needs to swallow its national pride and bring in all help as is required to provide NH’s family and the world an answer to what as occurred and prosecute as appropriate. It could have been an accident, but the investigation appears woefully inadequate.

      4) My gut tells me some time of daterape drug was involved here. The penalties for use and sale of such substances need to be most severe, to the extent they are not already.

      5) If it turns out she was abducted and enslaved somewhere, we should invade.

      God bless.

    27. BL on June 15th, 2005 10:30 am

Well, put it this way … if me or anyone I know is ever missing – I sure as hell hope we aren’t in Aruba!

    29. MOMfromMO on June 15th, 2005 10:32 am

      Dutchgirl:
In your defense, I don’t blame the Aruba residents, necessarily. But I do think the Arubian officials, law enforcement, and the Attorney General have a responsibility in conducting a thorough investigation. This includes checking ALL leads, searching all possible places (including divers, dogs, etc), bagging possible evidence (rather than allowing a kid to be displaying it for the media), and keeping the families informed. To date, I have yet to see any of this. THAT is the reason a lot of us will never, ever go to Aruba. Why would we? Security guards who are known druggies, crooked officials who take their minor children gambling, and an Attorney General who’s only statement is “No Comment”.

      Puhhhhhleeeeeeeeeeeeez!!!

    30. A guy on June 15th, 2005 10:33 am

The authorities are in their positions BECAUSE the Arubans put them there. Put enough heat on the Arubans in the form of lack of American dollars, which represent 75% of their incomes, and watch how quickly things begin to happen. Most elected officials anywhere are motivated by votes. They want to keep their cushy jobs and lifestyles of the bigshots. Hater has been saying it for a while and I agree. BOYCOTT ARUBA and you’ll see this fiasco come to an end. If several thousand cancellations came in over the next few days, I guarantee you this would be over sooner than later!!!

get the picture?? exactly why the family doesn’t read this board……. pray for them…. they realize their daughter has been murdered…. they only want the 3 young men to tell where the body is…. obviously, they are trying to avoid murder charges…. but pray to God that one of them will “come to Jesus” and confess all…. the family deserves it…… they need to get back home to their friends and family and bury their daughter and grieve…… For all of you back in Birmingham and Meridian, MS.. God bless you…. keep supporting the family members that are left behind…. the young children who are now missing their moms and dads during this search ….. and that this tragedy finally opens the eyes to us as parents and as teenagers that we are not above this kind of evil…. we are all vulnerable to “new friends”…. and as Southerners, we are abnormally trusting in all situations…. The world today is very evil…and many people are in the wrong place at the wrong time daily….. The Aruban people that are sufferering, I pray for them as well… Tourism supports their lifelihood…. with their avg annual salaries of $22K….. the ramifications that they now face because of this tragedy will be severe for months to come…. Time to go to work… May God’s grace rain today.

After his release, John said Depak Kalpoe confided to him while they were in jail together that he had lied to police. John said Kalpoe also apologized for getting Jones and him into “that mess.” (CNN Access)

“He [Depak] told me that the story about dropping the girl off at the Holiday Inn was all made up,” John said, adding that Kalpoe told him he and his brother dropped Van Der Sloot and Holloway off near a Marriott hotel and then went home.

The area searched Tuesday is near the Marriott, about a mile from the Holiday Inn where Holloway was staying.

John said Kalpoe told him the brothers figured Holloway would turn up “a few days after, in some crack house or beach bar.”

He said Tuesday that Kalpoe should be more forthright with investigators.

To all those complaining about the Aruban authorities: Give them the benifit of the doubt, and assume they just MIGHT know more than you about this case. There are certainly sensitive issues that cannot be compromised at this point in the investigation. You are passing premature judgement based on your lack of information. Because every detail has not been released is no reason to start bashing their investigation. Just because they don’t do things the way it is done in the US doesn’t mean they have no methodology. They are doing what they know to do. And you’d have to be insane to think they aren’t. You may not agree with their tactics, but you also have to admit you have no real comprehension of what is going on there. We can all swing guesses, and slander the whole community—but the truth is, we are just acting out of frustration that we have no REAL information.

    39. I'm a Hater on June 15th, 2005 10:41 am

      Kris-
The old debate tactic of making counter accusations and shifting blame works well in the third grade. Pressure on these guys is the only thing they will respond to. An island of 70,000 people with a GDP of over 1.9 billion and no military should have tons of money to spend on law enforcement. Instead a few fat cats are getting rich. That is why I say BOYCOTT ARUBA!!!!!

It is unfortunate that the nice people of Aruba should be caught in the crossfire, due to corrupt politics. While they are busy protecting a murderer, they are flaming the demise of tourism.

All I’m saying is if you live in a glass house you should not thorw stones. This could have happened anywhere. And as New Creature says, there may be more than we are being told, even by those “in the know”. I don’t disagree with you that perhaps this investigation could be going better and that there are those few fat cats you refer to. However, we too have those.

I feel that a lot of the comments are based on the frustration that we as a country are feeling in not knowing what happened to Natalee. I feel for the family and wish them all the best, as well as the people of Aruba. It’s a shame that it has come to this extreme with the call for boycotts, etc. I just pray that the family will soon have closure.

New Creature…you are exactly right. We have no real comprehension of what is going on down there! They do absolutely nothing on their own. Boy finds panties…a whole investigation team turns up and finds nothing…so they close up shop and wait for the next “discovery”. I’ve seen nothing at all to show any type of real leadership coming out of Aruba’s police department. I am however, hearing much about the lack of same leadership and now, preferential treatment for the lead thug suspect because of his Dad’s association with the police chief. Keep the heat on these guys or we’ll never know what happened to NH…

New Creature – To date the aruban authorities results are zero!! Wrong people arrested, most likely suspects let go, allowed to continue to drive car NH last in, best information comes not from authorties but from inmate in cell next to accused, inaccurate information released by actual aruban authorities, the list goes on and on. A 4 year old with a pez dispenser could get better results than the aruban authorities. It is time for the FBI to get involved and do a little interrogation Guantanmo style.

    56. Booyaksha on June 15th, 2005 10:52 am

I heard rumors that due to unrelenting media pressure and wanting to get away from Santa Barbara prosecutor Tom Sneddon, Michael Jackosn will take up residence in Aruba in one of the caves in the north side of the island. He’s taking Gary Coleman(Diffrent Strokes) and an Aruban goat with him as companions.

    57. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 10:54 am

my worst fears were realized this morning…seeing the FOX interview with the aruban govt official….who when asked if he felt that the 2 security guards were held with good reason….and he answered that yes they were ,because of the accusations /finger pointing of them by the 3 suspects….I have been very neutral and open during all of this..tried not to jump to conclusions…but i have to tell you…i have changed my mind. I also wonder why the Aruban govt hasnt allowed more FBI in on the case in more hands on ways….one would think they would welcome the expertise and the helpin solving the case…what reasons have they came forward with on this? i think i would be forcing them to answer/address this.

Hearing that Jorans dad wants to see him..using the “minor” excuse…??? ridiculous when he has a son who is living the life of an “of age” person…being seen in casinos participating as an adult in gaming, driving, and drinking …..comon!

I certainly contnue to feel for Natalees family and friends…the not knowing and battling thats been forced onto them during a time of grief……was needless…

Aruban officials are apparently in hot water due to their lack of due dilligence and professionalism towards the investigation

    64. Mark 2 on June 15th, 2005 11:00 am

If the chief investigator made the comment about being dutch boy’s father’s best friend then how can even be allowed to remain on the case? Also, the rumors I am hearing about the FBI not being allowed to do anything is very troubling. They are the key to solving this, not the Arubian police. I definitely sounds like a cover up. They seem to be putting on a good show for the media to make the americans feel like they are working hard on this case, but underneath they don’t want this case solved because it will mean putting dutch boy away for at least 20 years.

I am not against the Arubian people, but this investigation definitely stinks. I am with “hater”, we have to boycott Aruba to let the government know there is a price to pay for covering up a murder of one of our own.

Also, I couldn’t help but notice someone mentioning that Natalee wasn’t an angel herself. That really strikes a nerve with me. None of us are angels, but that has NOTHING to do with someone kidnapping and/or murdering her. If everyone who wasn’t an angel got murdered, the earth would be totally void of anyone except the guy that murdered the last victim. Lets not do the blame the victim game, but see this for what it is.

Well in my opinion the authories in Aruba have been given the benefit of the doubt far too long. They have screwed up from day one and or knew what they had with the kids dad having alot of influence and began a cover up immediately to save that punks ass.

I think that by the actions yesterday acting on a tip from the freed guard tells you that they don’t have a clue where she is and are no closer to finding her. Give our guys 24 hours with those punks and will have the answers needed.

I think the biggest scandal is how the Aruban authorities have abandoned the investigation, since Prime Minister Nel Oduber, Justice Minister Rudy Croes, and several other high ranking officials were spotted with Geraldo at the Neverland Ranch, celebrating the Michael Jackson court decision. They were observed giggling like school girls on the merry-go-round, and Geraldo was seen running for cover because Michael Jackson’s pet ostridge was chasing him all over the Neverland Ranch.

Regarding VDS’ father wanting to visit:

      http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,159601,00.html

      >>”When you’re a minor you have a right to visitation from your parents. But because of legal concerns, because the father is part of the legal system, that right was not granted in the first instance,” said government spokesman Rueben Trappenberg. Another judge will decide if the boy’s father can visit him after the motion is filed.

    89. Sam on June 15th, 2005 11:11 am

The fact that any statement has been made about NH’s character signifies that this guy is already on the defense. If he is innocent, he would be feeling compassionate and sorry for NH, like the rest of us. Not trying to taint her character to save his bum.

    90. Phil on June 15th, 2005 11:12 am

It sad but apparently true…the Arubians let the Boys go (the first time) because of the
fathers position. This is very very obivous…the tactical move excuse should only be used in the thrid grade and below…it is right up there with “the dog eat my homework”.

The arrest of the security guards is joke #2…everyone said just wait they must have more info…they didn’t…

Then yesterday they decide to tear an area apart they should have already searched (because they tell us they are doing all they can to solve this matter – oh, except continue searching key areas)…looking like tey are on to something.

I would agree the boys know that if there is no body they walk…it just a matter of time because the Arubian government really does not care about this matter. If they did they would have the FBI in on this from the start…but then their couldn’t protect the little dutch boy.

Americans should stay away for Aruba…lets keep the money in our country we could use it. BUY AMERICAN, VACATION AMERICAN!!!

    91. crs on June 15th, 2005 11:12 am

I would go as far as to say that ALL the Aruban officials know that he had something to do with this, that is why early on in the investigation, they questioned them and let them go – so that the can plan with the judge to be father their next steps- which in my opinion was- “Don’t talk, don’t say where the body is”, NO BODY, NO EVIDENCE, NO CRIME, NO TIME!!! Only a high ranking authority would know this. Do you think 17, 18 and 21 year olds would be so smart?

    97. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 11:15 am

    98. BL on June 15th, 2005 11:15 am

The “Crack House” thing was part of the main CNN story, I believe, I’m not sure I have been on numerous news sites this morning.

Honestly, the two brothers are really pissing me off, being so damn calm about this. I thought interrogators were supposed to scare people into admitting the TRUTH? Why are we not bringing in a lie detector kit? Is that against Aruba policy???

Not to bring up old, drawn-out, over-talked-about stuff, but that BriansPredictions page is really starting to make me wonder. I guess he has been right about quite a bit of things on that page.

I HONESTLY FEEL CERTAIN that all THREE BOYS saw Natalee for the last time that night, not just the judge’s son. I think they were all drunk, thought Natalee was a beautiful American girl. Natalee was drunk, and probably coming on rather strong, stronger than she would have sober. I strongly believe that she was blacked-out and woke up from it completely freaked out and scared. She was probably making a lot of noise…and you know the rest. The boys knew that they had all had sex with her, and that rape charges were soon coming their way, and got rid of her because they are young pigs with no morals or values.

      I can see it now:

“If I go to jail for rape, I can’t go to the college I want to go to!”

And that’s why (I think) she was murdered.

All I can say is, no matter what, Natalee’s family deserves to know what happened to their daughter. The ingrates owe them AT LEAST THAT. If they don’t open up and say something, I will pray for justice in the after-life.

    99. crs on June 15th, 2005 11:15 am

I couldn’t agree with you more.

I’m a bit confused–they can hold people in jail for a period of 8 days and then if there is evidence that warrants them being held longer they can. But they can’t be tried for murder if there is no body found? Is that correct?

    103. Justin T on June 15th, 2005 11:19 am

Someone mentioned something about wondering if his father knows. Obviously this is just speculation but if anyone would know how to cover tracks dear old dad would. Who would know the system better than someone who is a part of it. And Dad’s “bestfriend” gave him 10 days to do it. While none of that may be the case the opportunity was certainly given.

I have no doubt that these three know exactly what happened too Natalee, but in the end I just hope that the family will be able to get closure in one way or anther.

Yet, while America offers Aruba resources (FBI, etc), Aruba officials STILL decline assistance. Why help Aruba when even the Political Officials don’t even care??

Sorry if I sound harsh…but it’s difficult to be ‘supportive’ of what seems to be a cold-hearted country.

I do NOT include my feelings with each individual Arubian. That is crazy when I see that.

If there is a conspiracy of silence at some level of the Aruba government, there is a point at which economic pressure can and will break it. The tourism dollar is the nuclear option in this case. An American boycott of Aruba (and lets face it, there are plenty of other options) would blast their island back into the third world. It is time to bring this pressure to bear, shake the tree hard and see what falls out.

    124. MOMfromMO on June 15th, 2005 11:27 am

If this was a case of Date rape which ended with “something bad happening” then I would look at phone records to see if Mr. Joran called his daddy for help! Go after the Dad and freaking put his ass in a sling. I would also put Aruba under a freaking blockade until Natalee is returned. If the USA can raise Millions for foreigners who where victims of the South East Asia Tsunami then they should get involved and start raising millions of $ for Natalee’s return or to rain down the fires of hell upon those who took her life. Where’s the media on this one? Every Parent is holding their breath for Natalee’s Family and will never feel safe again when their kids are abroad if even a so called very friendly vacation island like Aruba and it’s Government turns out to favor killers and human trafficking over human life.

I hate the comments about her being drunk and coming on to this guy “probably” too much…. that makes it sound as though it was her fault which is bullshit. It makes no difference how drunk she was or was not. It is entirely possible that she was drugged without her knowledge as well.

In addtion ALL of her friends stated she was not falling down drunk, she didn’t throw up in the bathroom as reported and that she was planning on catching a cab and going straight back to the hotel. So something else happened

This guy was far mature beyond his years. Most 17 year olds don’t hang in the bars post a website of yourself and consider yourself the stud of Aruba. She by all accounts was pretty innocent. At least the accounts of the ones who really know her. It’s like the one brother saying she will probably show up in a crack house. Not unless they put her there.

I think a terrible accident occurred and the three are fearful. The island does not
know what to do because nothing like this is ever happened before. I feel for everyone
      involved, it is a mess.

There is so much technology now a days – phone records, computers, dna testing. I cannot believe it has taken so long to find NH and to charge these 3 with a crime.

I hear that the brothers are from a well to do family, I haven’t heard much about who they are, but my gut feeling tels me that Papa Van der Sloth told them not to worry, that he will cover for ALL 3. What do you all think?

sorry, guys…i have been trying to post all morning and it wasn’t functioning…i was just testing now. I am with “i am a hater”. I love the aruban people; however, if we do not boycott aruba, all we are doing is demonstrating that not only do we endorse and support this subjective investigation (obviously strongly influenced by Joran’s father), we also are supporting the blatant disregard of Natalee’s life and the lives of those who love her. This case has been tainted from the inception. These boys will never talk, b/c quite frankly, they know they do not need to. If evidence is found, it will be so strongly decomposed that they will unable to link forensically to these boys (water, time sun–conducive in the decomposition)—Think Laci Peterson. We know Scott was guilty b/c of his past behaviors, as well as, his callousness. Yet, they were unable to link any physical evidence to him.

“Every Parent is holding their breath for Natalee’s Family” You are so right.

My daughter was on her senior cruise to the Bahamas at the same time Natalee was in Aruba. I cannot imagine what NH’s mom is going through. I don’t know that boycotting Aruba will solve the case, but it seems as if boycotting is one of the few things that Americans can do to help.

I realize that the wheels of justice can turn slowly, but the lack of evidence in this case is baffling. Surely there is information about the cell phone calls and times.

    159. Bill on June 15th, 2005 12:01 pm

I have been reading the posts and agree with many of you that this case will not be solved due to the Aruban authorities cover up to protect Joran because of his father’s connections. I believe that the Aruban strategy is to continue to use delaying tactics until the press loses interest and they can then sweep the whole thing under the carpet and make it disappear. I think that the Aruban authorities know exactly what happened and will not act unless the United States goverment (State Department) puts pressure on the Aruban govt by threatening to put a travel advisory out concerning the safety of Aruba unless they allow a more active role for the FBI agents in Aruba. My fear is that Joran and his friends will walk and the true story will never be told.

    160. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 12:01 pm

the arubans must be questioning it all themselves..especially those who live in teh oil refinery less affluent are of island….

    161. Billy on June 15th, 2005 12:02 pm

the aruba gov’t has to give everybody on the island a shovel – get digging! If she was killed accidentely during “rough” sex then it would be good for him to tell where the body is so they could autopsy it. However, if he actually killed her on purpose, then its best for him to NOT tell them where the body is b/c the more the body rots – they can’t ascertain the actual cause of death.

    162. BL on June 15th, 2005 12:02 pm

      Justin-

I don’t think that this is Natalee’s fault at all. I’m just saying what I picture happening in my head. But we all know that Natalee should never, ever have gotten into a car with strangers, or semi-strangers. It wasn’t responsible of her, and you do realize that, right?

What I’m saying is Natalee acted very out of character that night, and that is what alcohol does to you.

All I was trying to establish was that I think she blacked-out. I think she drank more than she probably ever had, and blacked-out. When you’re blacked-out, you do things you would NEVER do, like kiss boys you don’t know, and get into random cars.

I’m just saying, I wish she didn’t drink. Then those a$$holes would never have had the chance to be near her.

Don’t know if what I’m saying is coming out right, but nonetheless, it is NEVER RIGHT to rape a woman. And it is NEVER a woman’s fault.

I wish we didn’t have to worry about things like being raped or hurt, or even killed. But that’s just the way the world has turned out. We need to use things such as the old school buddy system. We need to drink in places we KNOW and TRUST. It sucks, but it’s true.

    163. JJ on June 15th, 2005 12:02 pm

I would not be very concerned with the Russ and Dee “blackball” of the Carribean, they are a couple of right wing nuts. They spread gossip and innuendo on a regular basis. They are quick to blast ideas that would fix a problem, but rarely ever have logical resolutions to those problems.

    164. Big Pappy on June 15th, 2005 12:02 pm

I don’t get it. The Aruban authorities have FBI resources available and are not utilizing them to the fullest. If they truly want this to end they should be using all resources available. They let the boys go, did they track them in the time they were out? What about the car, evidence found initially, now the car is not still in custody I think I read? Searching a huge area that we were all told was searched during the “island wide search” again only because of a jailroom discussion? Come on people, I love the islands, the simple and beautiful island people, the darker side is the underground drug trade and market that is part of every island I believe. This is way screwed up and the time already passed will make it nearly impossible to convict I would think.

    165. Billy on June 15th, 2005 12:07 pm

to BL – here’s a concept – maybe they shouldn’t drink! Drinking clouds judgment – and all of us have made mistakes – most of the time nothing very horible happens because of it, but every now and then something CAN happen which you would do anything to take back. And that is probably what happened here, she had a lapse in judgment and here, sadly, it looks like she paid a very high price.

    166. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 12:08 pm

yep…seems like a fair trial cannot happen there..even if they do come up with a charge….which is troubling…i think the US needs to step in on a more public govt level and ask the Aruban officials to quit hiding behind the “our govt is different than yours….or …the police is not under govt” blurbs…theyve danced around it this way enough..we all get it! but dont use it as a way to delay the case…and give teh family information and access….
If teh US waits too long..it will ruin opportunity to make it work….time is of essence

Maybe I’m thinking different, but I don’t really care (at least right now) about the boys getting convicted. Or what the punishment will be. I just want them to let someone know what happened to Natalee. The torture is not knowing what happened. Most people seem to be of the opinion that she’s dead and that her body has been disposed of somewhere. But what if she was kidnapped and sold. She could still be out there (not on Aruba.) The not knowing is the worst part. Cut them a deal. Whatever it takes to get them to talk.

    169. BL on June 15th, 2005 12:11 pm

      Billy, You’re right completely.

I guess I am sticking to my guns about being responsible because a very similar thing happened to me when I was in college. I was raped by two boys when I was blacked-out. They photographed the rape, and get this:

In the photographs, I appeared to be enjoying myself.

I don’t remember this. I was blacked-out. But the first thing I remember is waking up with a guy on top of me and screaming bloody murder.

Maybe this is why my opinions differ than most.

      I agree Billy. Entirely.

    181. Bill on June 15th, 2005 12:21 pm

Can anyone on this board name one thing that the Aruban authorities did on their own except detain a couple of innocent security guards???

They did not detain the three suspects until Natalee’s mother pressed them to do so and the media got ahold of it.
They did not do anything about the suspects changing their story until one of the security guards told the story to the press.
Volunteers searched the island, but the authorities did not perform a focused search until the press picked up the story of “some kid” finding evidence at the location searched yesterday.

The list goes on and on. The authorities did nothing on their own initiative but only acted when information was made public. This tells me that they have no intention of solving this case on their own. I am tired of them hiding behind “the difference in law”. No matter what the differences in the laws between Aruba and the US, I will bet there is nothing in the Aruban law that stops them from solving the case

I understand your point and I think most of us have done things out of charator a time or two because of drinking. I don’t think she blacked unless she was drugged without her knowing it.

But from all accounts she was not ripped, drunk or out of control. She didn’t throw up as was reported and or fall down at any points. It was also reported that she was waiting for a cab. This was from a girl who was out front of C7C’s with her. The cabs in Aruba while they are marked can be any make model or color. It seems possilbe she may of gotten into the car thinking it was a cab and in fact was not. in my opinion joran had his sites on her. You know a car pulls up she is distracted and thinks she is getting into a cab. And its a friend of Joran. They think its real funny and say ah don’t worry we will take you home. YOu don’t have to be drunk to have that happen to you. I mean who really knows? Natalee and the 3 pigs sitting in jail.

All I want to say right now is, it is time for that poor soul, Beth Twitty, to get in EVERY SINGLE camera and in every Aruban official’s face and get MAD… even more mad than she is now. I am an Italian woman with a temper, surrounded by my friends who are all Italian or African American. We are not from the polite south, but we are all watching this each day wanting Beth to get MAD – and if she can start shouting out that she wants answer now, I think Joran will have to confess. Something has to give. I cannot even think about the possibility of never finding this girl.

Beth has to get NUTS on the officials and the media NOW.

We can sit here and blog all we want and throw around theories and ask “did the police look at this tape, or did they try this…etc” but the bottom line is the only way we can influence things while we sit here in our cushy chairs in the good old USA is to push for a boycott. If enough bloggers start screaming for a boycott things will get picked up in the MSM. Some have already mentioned it briefly, but everyone wants to be nice and say please don’t hurt the nice Aruban people. I don’t want to hurt them either, but lets call a spade a spade. BILL,

You are totally right, in fact, Dutch law would favor getting this case solved since they can detain people on less evidence and can prevent lawyers from talking to suspects in certain instances.

They don’t want to solve the case, pure and simple.

I don’t believe any police office is this incompetant to have made this many errors over the course of nearly 3 weeks.

-The suspects were never interviewed in detail.
-It appears they were interviewed together and initially in cells close by/or together
-The car was not searched for 11 days
-It appears the housees of the 3 have still not been searched
-The “search” for Natalee was random and did not focus on the most likely areas for her to be.
-The FBI divers did not dive, the cadaver dogs did not go out.

The list goes on and on.

Only hope is that the Aruban government may continue to be underestimating Natalee’s mom, she is not going to go quietly into the night, I think.

No wonder this kid is arrogant and cold, his parents let him party and whore around in front of their faces at some 15th bday party. I don’t remember any 15th bday parties like that when I was a kid. Looks like these folks have money and the Van Der Sleaze family has big pull in Arube. Yet another reason to BOYCOTT ARUBA!!!

You always look for the most logical explanation. It can be assumed that if a murder took place, then it was unplanned—-a momentary crime of passion so to speak. Now you have a dead body and it must be disposed. Since it was unplanned having a boat available, especially at night, is unlikely. And you could not get a body far enough out to sea without a boat so that it would not drift back to shore in a day or so or at least parts of it. So that leaves burying the body and for that you need help especially when time is limited. So at least two, if not all of the trio are guilty. Who the actual murderer is, if one took place, I’ll leave to the detective wannabes, but the body is buried somewhere.

New York – you are right! These people need to learn what happens when you play such games with Americans – its not going to be business as usual – they can run that island like a quazi-dictatorship by the elite Dutch of the place, but now that this “problem” has visited them – a lot of light is being shown on them and their crooked corupt ways – two gov’ts – one for the well to do Dutch and the other for the workers. As I said before, every one of the 70,000 people there needs to get a shovel and start digging like THEIR life depended on it, b/c if they don’t find her (and soon) they are going to take a real hit in the pocketbook.

    214. New York on June 15th, 2005 12:46 pm

Billy – since that island doesn’t obviously know what the F they are doing with this whole thing, can you just imagine if Beth went ballistic on them? I know she is exhausted, frustrated, and just not even human right now… how could she be? But someone has got to get loud and obnoxious – just as that kid probably did with Natalee on that awful night. Beth has the only power in my book. I would be in the cameras’ face so much, every single American would fly down to assist. I just want her to show that island who they are really dealing with.

    215. MOMfromMO on June 15th, 2005 12:46 pm

you asked about the Natalee not an angel comment. That was not the exact comment from the attorney but yes he did slam her. He made comments regarding her being a party girl, drinker and impled she was for lack of a better term loose. That was reported on Hannity & Combs and Foxnews

I read somewhere that this attorny has been removed from the case and that was after a lot of complaints.

    221. Kris on June 15th, 2005 12:50 pm

      Mom,

I agree 100% with that. I swear that I had seen his site early on and there was much more information on it. Looking at the pic.’s from the 15 year olds birthday party, give me the feeling that this kid is anything put nice. I had thought, or maybe had hope is better, that he had nothing to do with it. That maybe Natalee was still alive and was, (god forbid) kidnapped. It isn’t really looking like that now. :(

    222. harp on June 15th, 2005 12:50 pm

What I think is that they were searching yesterday if the story of the 2 brother is right, seeing that they were the ones who said that they dropped v/d Sloot in the neighbourhood of Marriot. And today they are searching to see if the story of v/d Sloot is right by searching his house. J. v/d Sloot told them that they dropped him at his house first and then took off with N. It logic that the police is considering the possiblity that something happened there.

I saw the mother on tape going around to stores and handing out flyers – and she’s so nice and smiling yet – and I understand this is her defense to try to get through all this – cry on the inside – but eventually she will have to accept that the gov’t there IS NOT helping her, just covering their behinds.

      I’m a Hater,

I had a coming out party and can tell you that it is very elaborate. However, the dress and the behavior at such events is not anything like what I see in the pictures. On another note, as the mother of a young daughter, I can very confidently say that I will never visit the island. I don’t think that I would want her exposed to this kind of behavior.

I must say at this point, after reading a lot of views, I must now agree with the majority of you. Boycott!!

    229. Bill on June 15th, 2005 12:55 pm

Cas, you bring up some other good points. I do not believe that the police department in Aruba is that inept, we are not talking about advanced police procedure here, just the basic rules of investigation which have not been followed. This is what is confusing me the most. There are small towns in the US that have never had to solve a murder case, but I will bet that the police departments in these towns would follow the basic rules of investigation if one occurred. so the excuse that “they never had this kind of crime in Aruba” doesn’t wash with me that is why I believe there is a cover up.

I can’t imagine not having a big party for my child on her 15th… money or not. People can save. As to a boycott, this could happen any where. Hopefully this will make kids/teens and parents more aware. We have to just keep praying for the Holloway-Twitty Family. Hopefully soon they will have Natalee back and can try to move forqrd with much help from friends and tons of prayer.

    231. New York on June 15th, 2005 12:56 pm

I was so happy when Beth was on the Today Show with Katie saying that those 3 boys were the link to where Natalee is. A mother knows these things!! But I was sitting there, wanting her to scream out that there is a cover up. Also, the Aunt is really cool too and I think she is able to really go nuts on the Aruban officials, but maybe I was just brought up different. I just want them to go nuts on Aruba. At this point this is what they need to do as a family. They have nothing to lose.

they feed the sharks on one end of the island so they will stay on that side rather than where the tourists are bathing. Makes perfect sense.

    258. The Big Picture on June 15th, 2005 1:12 pm

When the story first came out two weeks ago my physical therapist told me about the side of the island where edible trash is dumped to keep the sharks from coming over to the tourist side of the island.

The three boys must feel that the body will never be found. The bumbling by the investigators probably prevented finding other evidence (skin, hair, fluids) in their cars or person that could have provided some proof.

Since their stories are inconsistent they know something-and they are lying. That enough is a crime.

Individuals did something that we cannot blame a whole community for. However, the government there is not creating an environment of accountability appropriate for Americans to visit.

Unless they fix this, Aruba should be classfied like Cuba-no US visitors. If not that, Boycott Aruba.

I have a hunch they did all their activity at the lighthouse. They never went back to the Marriott. They could not have gotten away with anything at those hotels with all the round the clock security. The Suriname guy made that story up so that everyone would be looking in one direction, and they did exactly that. Unreal.

“Most of the sharks stay on more of the East side of the Aruba island, where the island dumps a lot of it’s trash. And near the Bay of Aindicouri, the Natural Bridge is a large rock formation created after centuries of waves naturally carved out a “bridge” on the coastline. Sharks get meat-food here as “a tourist attraction”, so swimming here is not a realistic option.

At the Shark Caves you can get very close to sleeping nurse and sand sharks. Nurse sharks sleep during the day, allowing you to get very close and even touch them. It’s good to learn sharks prefer to keep to themselves and don’t bother you as long you don’t bother them.

Natalee’s mother would know if those panties are Natalee’s.

Did anyone see the latest news on CNN – They say that the 3 boys are “turning against each other”. The Depak brothers are saying one thing, and VDS is saying another story, that is why they went to the VDS residence. I think the Aruban Police is on to something!

    291. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 1:39 pm

maybe they are spraying the chemical that reveals blood..even when its been cleaned up

    292. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 1:40 pm

once again they seemto be honing in only on Joran now..and forgetting the brothers..wouldnt they/shouldnt they be doing same procedures for them as well?

    293. harp on June 15th, 2005 1:42 pm

      They stopped searching….nothing found?

    294. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 1:42 pm

afterall this is a mistake they made initially ..excluding suspects based on finger pointing

    295. Jake on June 15th, 2005 1:43 pm

Remember, this is the way the Aruba police work. ONE ENTIRE day they spend on a lead coming from Joran, and ANOTHER WHOLE day they spend investigating a lead that came from the Depak brothers!

    296. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 1:44 pm

what do they think they are going to find anyways?2 weeks after!sheesh! more than likely no crime was committed at the home…or evidence..he seemed to love the puter….so it would be interesting to see what hes posted or written

Thanks for info, Harp. If I can put a plug in for the USA, this is one of those times when I thank my lucky stars that I live here. I feel so sorry for this family. They cannot even appeal to the US for help. We are not permitted to intervene.

Their justice system is not impressing me at the moment. But, on the other hand, when the chief of police or whomever it was who said, “things like this just don’t happen here” I entirely believe that. They were completely ill-equipped to deal with this. I wonder what they will find in his house.

    298. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 1:46 pm

doesnt sound very efficient does it..and hasnt yielded many results…hmmmm? maybe they should try something else…

    299. Jake on June 15th, 2005 1:48 pm

Has anyone interviewed the families to find out at what time their sons arrived at home? I don’t know about any of you, but when I was 17 years old, even 19 and 20, my parents gave me a curfew, and they waited up for me to ge home! The night Natalee disappeared, what time did Joran get home? What time did the brothers get home? Don’t you think that if the brothers “really” dropped Joran and Natalee off and went home, that means they would have gotten home much earlier than Joran, and if Joran was dropped off at the beach w/ Natalee, how did Joran get home? Taxi? Where is the taxi driver?

    300. lisabobeesa on June 15th, 2005 1:50 pm

hallelujah jake..my question exactly..i was just typing that they should press Jorans parents etc…as well….these arent unfair questions

    301. Jake on June 15th, 2005 1:54 pm

Lisa -good minds think alike- I agree! Ask the parents (in seperate interviews) at what time their children got home! C’mon, 3 kids were running around a small island until the wee hours of the morning and NOBODY saw NOTHING? What’s wrong with this island, what is wrong with all these people! Come forward people of Aruba. What about other tourist? I cannot believe that there was not a sole out there that didn’t see something wierd or different happening the night of Natalee’s disaperance. Is there really such a thing as “The Perfect Crime”??

    302. Jake on June 15th, 2005 1:58 pm

I also had another comment to say in reference to the security guard that was released yesterday with the “So called info” that Natalee might be at “Lover’s Lane” by the Marriott. Although I think he had nothing to do with the disapperance of Natalee, I think he was after the reward $.

Does anyone know how exactly the law enforcement in Aruba works? Is there a some rule about how much information can be released concerning an ongoing investigation? I guess what I’m asking is “Is this how ALL cases are handled there?” It would seem that the government there would realize that they need to release more information concerning the investigation. If they don’t, based on what I’m seeing on the internet, all hell’s going to break loose. People seem to be getting more and more upset by Aruba’s apparent bumbling attempt at solving this case.

    305. Jake on June 15th, 2005 2:07 pm

      Jake, Lisa,

Good Question… Answer I am betting is they wouldn’t have a clue… This is a kid, Joran who hangs out in the casino’s, drinks in the bars at 17. What kind of curfew would any of us suspect he has… None is my bet…. if you got an answer from his parents would it even be worth the time you spent.

“Jonathan – 3 young men were in court today filing motions to gain access from the pros. office to see what they have against them. Seems the investigation is focusing on one teen in particular. Teams are @ the house of Joran in their white suits. They have towed 2 vehicles which they are examining for evidence. One of the original SG suspects may still be able to help the investigation. Mickey John was in jail next to one of the 3. bla bla – he admitted he lied about dropping off @ the HI. People are asking why wait so long to bring in the 3. The FBI says they were actually under electronic surveillance the whole time they were free. They have also been told a date rape drug was used on Natalee.”

Because Aruba has such a small population, Joran’s father and others could be compared to the Mafia. They probably manipulate every walk of life in Aruba.

You NEVER do that! If they’re together, they can compare notes and add continuity (and, by extension, credibility) to their stories.

I understand your anger and frustration. If you read the dutch weblogs people are very angry as well about the whole ordeal , and believe that joran is guilty and should be punished.
By the way we do not want your trouble seeking teeners at all on Aruba they only misbehave stimulate drugstrading and crime and bring along all their badhabits from the USA leave this lovely island alone. Perhaps we should consider boycotting american citizens of entering on the island that would safe us a lots of trouble aswell !

      Tripstein,
WHOA! I was trying to understand the process of the investigation as it is taking place in a different country. I realize that the rest of the world doesn’t necessarily do things the same way as the USA. If there is a precedent for how they are handling things in Aruba, then that might explain why the investigation appears to be being handled ineffectively. Another words, just cause it’s different, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

But, that said, all the information that can be found indicates inefficiency on the part of the Aruban officials.

    317. Billy on June 15th, 2005 2:24 pm

Tripsteen–That comment was mornic. In actuality, Aruba exists at the consent and largesse of the United States and its citizens. SIXTY PERECENT of the Aruban GDP comes from tourism, and the vast majority of that tourism comes from the United States. Without that money, Aruba would turn into a ghetto. You’d have people starving in the streets. The only thing preventing Aruba from becoming another Haiti is the fact that Americans want to go there.

and give up the 45 BILLION dollars a year we bring into the US. Money talks bullshit walks. That is the only reason this case has gotten the attention it has from the Arubian Govt. They have a HUGE monetary consideration and concern…

Your analogy is way off base. I don’t think anyone is blaming the people of Aruba for anything. The point is and it is well founded. The Arubian police department has made extremely questionable calls with regard to this case. Regardless, if they are not use to high profile cases. They are flunking Crimonlogy 101. So don’t take it so personnel

IT would be the same if I did not like something about is what is happening in your house and block all your entrances and exits. I do agree fully that how the case is handled looks a bit like a ” mickey mouse ” operation to me . if you could express yourselves more in a manner like we should apply diplomatic backroom pressure to allow “state of the art ” search equipement and proffesionals to participate in the investigation in order to resolve the case . That would sound a bit cooler

      Tripstien,

The cry for a boycott is a very simplistic way to say what you just said. The point is people react to two things. They either do something because the thought of not doing it becomes so painful they must do something to change their behavior it or they stop doing something for the same reason. If the threat of economics is the pain that must be threatened then so be it. Money talks, bullshit walks. The Arubian police have had the DEA & the FBI at there disposal and have NOT used them. So the cry comes from people here and else where then make them hurt where it counts and that is in Aruba’s case tourism. As with anywhere Politic’s I suspect is at work here and people here in the states are very leary of that in our own country as well as anywhere else……

Again its not personnel against the people of Aruba.

      Here’s a quarter…

    329. Billy on June 15th, 2005 2:48 pm

Tripstein– Again, that’s just plain false. Several nations entered the American Revolutonary War; The Netherlands was not alone. Moreover, the Dutch contribution was not really significant relative to that of the French. Further still, they did it not out of altruism but rather to dilute Brritish power and further their own interests. Pretending that those actions are “but for” causes of the founding of the United States is absurd. The dutch contribution was relatively minor and more than re-paid when the US bailed Europe out of not one but two 20th C wars.

I fully agree , I am frustrated aswell about the msihandeling of the case . But to blame an entire nation for what is happening or how there lousy policeforce is handeling the case and using heavy loaded sentences like lets boycot aruba are out of order. For eample i dont like Bush but is does not mean that i not going to drink I nice coca cola made in atlanta , or not going to greet an american friend. Sorry, not intended to offend Dutch they have enough crimes to be accountable for (Indonesia) as does every existing country but in my opinion this dutch island adminstration is now perpetuating a clean and sweep operation to protect their precious tourist business. We can’t do much about many of the past atrocities in this world but we Americans can now in real time put significant leverage on Aruba to do what they should have done for Natalee and her family. If this had been my child I would be doing everthing I could to have the three kids released because soon after, all three kids and their freaking families would go missing just as fast as Natalee did!

**Agree with you it is taking too long. But Arubian police is not used to solving kind of cases like this. It’s a fact, you can be a graduated inspector but if you don’t have much experience on the subject all you ever learn is not put to practise. It is my opinion on what is happening over there. And let us not forget the FBI is working on it also and actief. They do have some restrictions because it is not their teritorry. But still their expertise is being put in use.

    351. Barry Black on June 15th, 2005 4:03 pm

As for the seemingly slow pace of the investigation by the Aruban authorities, you have to remember there are very few disappearances/murders on the Island and the police are not experienced with such investgations! They are making lots of mistakes and time is not an ally in such cases.

So leave out the FBI or other American experts, there simply not allowed to do anything according the Dutch law.

As stated before you americans are only 5% of the worlds population, so get used to it that not everything goes the way you guys want it to go.

I just emailed Russ and Dee:

Check out any of the missing persons boards at your local Walmart. I think you’ll find that we have quite a few cases that haven’t been solved after years much less weeks. Where is this expertise you talk about. Aruba, like the U.S., is not allowed to torture the suspects to get the truth. Give them time and stop embarrassing Alabama. This might be good for Fox’s and your ratings, but it damages your already shady journalistic reputation.

Yea, I know, this won’t change their minds since ,like Fox, Russ and Dee care only about the ratings, but it made me feel better. Seems the more outrageous the view, the more willing Fox is to air it, unless, of course, the view is liberal.

How do you know that? because we hadn’t seen anything like in the media, it doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. Even if Aruba is under the Nederlands gov, it is corupted like any other small country or island. It’s fas away from its “parent” gov and they do whatever they want there. I am not in favor of the war in Iraq, but I would rather hear a daily bio of a soldier killed in Iraq – that deserves more attention than a story of some blonde hair, blue eyed, princess from Alabama, who clearly travelled far from home with no street smarts. Maybe they should do more news stories on the girls who run off to the big city, here in the U.S. and don’t ever come back and are never heard from again….

      Just a thought.

With some of the facts already known here’s what most likely happened:

      1. After leaving CnC Natalee needed to take a cab or bus to get back to the HI, most likely with her classmates but Joran and the brothers offered a ride.

      2. Once in the car they said lets go to the lighthouse, they drove pass the HI to get to the lighthouse.

      3. Once at the lighthouse Joran was groping Natalee and said take me back to the HI, remember they said they never got out of the car. The brothers turned around and drove back to the HI.

      4. Joran continued groping Natalee, almost back at the HI knowing this was his last chance with Natalee he told the brothers to stop less the 1/2 mile from the HI. Either Natalee got out the car and started to run or Joran forced her out. The brothers waited in the car.

      5. This is the unknown part but something bad happened there. I heard the currents go out on this part of the island??? Since no body has been found maybe Joran did the unspeakable and Natalee was killed and now floating out to sea.

      6. Joran goes back to the car tells them Natalee isn’t coming back and makes up the story they took her back to the HI and blame her disappearance the guards. Joran and the brothers go home.

      7. Why do the brothers go along with the story??? Either they were involved with the “something bad happened” or just go along because Joran is the leader of the group.

      8. Sounds simple but 1 or all 3 know what happened.

Since Aruba depends upon tourism (American tourism), is protecting one family worth the Arubian economy?? Boycott Aruba forever. Paulos can protect his son but who is going to protect Aruba’s economy?? Since Aruba is part of the Netherlands, boycott their economy as well. There is a coverup going on and the police and judge are part of it.
