I hate to lay blame but the chaperones should have noticed as soon as everybody got back to the hotel, afterall 40 chaperones for 100 kids, thats 2.5 kids for every chaperone. But on the other hand, accidents do happen!

I, for one, am having a very difficult time believing that AP would quote Police Commissioner Dompig (sp?) saying that one of the boys confessed and would lead police to the body – if it werent true. Lawyers can argue about what a legal confession might be versus a confession via wiretap or something – authorities can deny a ‘confession’ was made, but it seems completly improbable that a respected AP newsman would falsely quote a public official in an international case and expect to get away with it. No one would do something so foolish – if Natalee walked into the police station tomorrow, the reporter’s career would be permanently finished. No, I tend to think that the statement was true…
On the confession – one of Natalee’s family members said it was an ‘aggressive interpretation’ of what was said – so something certainly was said by one of the boys and it did point to some sort of culpability. THe phrase spread by another attorney for another suspect – one of the (probably) falsely imprisoned guards was, “something bad happened”…

Someone in the prior comments said they gave a ride to a girl that had known them for all of 45 minutes. I can relate to this case in that as a 20 year old my uncle left me at a bar in FL to go off with his girlfriend. I caught a ride with the guy I had been dancing with all night thinking he was nice and all (lots of drinks in that thought by the way) As we left his friend got in the car–can you say PANIC. I was saying to myself that I had made a fatal mistake and the talking on the ride between the two made me nervous. They stopped at a corner store for cigarettes (more like condoms if you ask me) and LOCKED the car door with me in the back of a two door car. I panicked that I was in deep trouble and saw two marines (one male on female) getting gas and jumped out of the car and ran to them. They took me to my hotel. I shudder to think what was about to happen to me. It could have easily turned out really bad. I never got in the car with someone I met at a bar again, thats for sure

I am sick of hearing people bash the chaperones. They weren’t there to baby sit. How could they have possibly stopped her from going home with someone. It’s not like she or the other kids would tell them her plans anyway. Be realistic.

As much as I say do not feel guilty for what happened, I am sure you will because it is human nature. Those who are responsible for the actual missing of Natalee should feel guilt. We have all been there at one point in our lives and to some extent. Some of us more than others. There are plenty of things that I wish I could have done in my life that would have better protected friends and family. Some work and some do not.
Nothing anyone says here that may be derogatory will ever make anyone feel worse than they already do. I feel for the family and friends.
No matter what happens you guys are not to blame. Could things have been done differently, sure. But you are not to blame. God bless.

What a weird set of circumstances, this morning I was almost relived the fake foxnews story was right about the body being found and one of the suspect confessed. Now I’m not sure after retractions and finger pointing.

I’ve been reading all of your posts for most of the day. Is there anyone else here who can identify with being a silly teenage (almost college age) girl out having fun? I see myself in Natalee…maybe ten years ago, but still just as reckless. I can think back about things I did that were just so stupid. The only difference between anyone of us and Natalee is just luck. In her case, a lack of it…..
Jamaicanice- You should be ashamed of yourself. If your idea of coming on this messageboard was to provide a personal attack against Americans, then you need to find another one to do just that. I find it quite insulting that in a time of grief and tragedy you have not only insulted my homeland, but also a girl and her family. Just FYI, our country is much more powerful and can field a larger army than yours ever can and excuse us Americans for having concern and hope for the well-being of one of our fellow Americans. Americans stick together, and maybe your country should learn from ours on how to respect other people. If one of your citizens were in the same situation, I know I would not get on a messageboard designed for helping to cope with the tragedy and as an information source and personally attack you and your country. Its called common courtesy and class- something you obviously lack. And FYI- the Americans that have visited your country may have given you a bad impression, but not all of us exhibit that behavior, and it is not fair to sterotype. I haven’t seen anybody on here write “Jamaicans are evil and bad and deserve to be kidnapped and die” which is the impression I got from your postings. Have some respect for people of the world. Not to bash the chaperones but there have been a lot of opinions on what the chaperones were NOT there to do but the question should be what IS their job/responsibility of this type trip? No matter the outcome of this, I hope that is one thing that will be looked at by this community before they plan another senior trip. I know the high school where I teach has chaperones sign forms and we are assigned specific students. Some of these kids have never been out of the country and they DO need some supervision, regardless of age.

The mayor of Birmingham said they were not “chaperones” – they were a group of adults who went along on the trip with their kids and assumed no responsibility for them – they were of legal age in Aruba, and previous trips were without incident – just good fun.

As a parent of an almost 18 year old, I guarantee you that when my daughter decides to do something, no one and nothing will stop her, no matter how stupid it is. Even if her friends tell her it’s stupid, if she really wants to do it, she will. Quit blaming the chaperones, her parents and her friends. Blame the jerk who hurt her.

SA…you are probably right. I guess I don’t understand why it would even be necessary to send adults on this trip if they served no purpose. Why not just send the kids and give them the name/number of the local embassy in case they lost a passport, etc? But when you send “adults” and call them “chaperones” they DO have some responsibilities to monitor things.
I am in no way blaming them or saying the outcome to this would have been any different. But sometimes when a chaperones presence is “known” then outsiders are less willing to try and befriend kids in the group.
Again, NOT bashing the chaperones as this is just a very sad and unfortunate situation.

Hey, I’m back, any new news?
To all the ppl from Aruba- I want to thank you for helping to give us the information yu have. Although your investigation process seems long and frustrating to us, we are by no means trying to insult your country or imply that your island is full of crime and poverty. We are just so used to being given lots of information in cases like this in America, example, Elizabeth Smart, but we respect your country for the effort they are making to solve this mystery and to hopefully bring Natalee home. As many of us know, every country has their share of criminals and just because something like this happened, it does not mean Aruba is not a safe-place to live or visit. People go missing all the time in America and yet we still fill fit to live there. If we have offended you in any way, I would like to apologize. Right now we are working together as a team and are all frustrated about the lack of information being presented- both Arubans and Americans alike. I pray for your island and that it will return to normal and continue to thrive as a beautiful vacation destination as well as a home to many Aruban citizens and respect your country for the hard work and steps they have taken to solve this case and find her.

MSNBC ran some pretty good criminal stories today, which does not bode well for the outcome. Part of me hopes for a safe return but the odds seem so staggering. Basically the stories show that nice peaceful places when a murder occurs, its very hard to phantom that someone native or from that town did it. The speculation is probably that some transcient is at fault. Also from the many stories prominent and influencial families whom member stand accused do stymie police investigation. Had it not been for the massive hour by hour coverage, this would have gone by the way side, like Amy Bradley story. Or one similar in Jamaica as well. The other way that sometimes reattention is gained is if someone did investigative stories or wrote a book.
We can all claim that things would have been different if we would have been there, but if we look back to our behavior at that age, I don’t think anything would have been different.

This case has truly captured my attention since it became common knowledge. I know that on my high school graduation trip I made several very bad decisions in regards to alcohol and hooking up. I really feel for this young womans family…There will not be a good outcome. I do not want o offend anyone on here particularly the several people from mountain brook, but this girl is dead.

Concerned Mom…I feel the same about my daughter. Once they walk through the front door, no matter how many “talks” we have given them, they are vulnerable and yet feel invincable at the same time.
Also, even though it’s not right, I have a lot more worries when it comes to my teen daughter as compared to my teen son. The world is just so much more dangerous for our daughters.

concerned mom – I don’t necessarily agree with you that teen girls are at a much higher risk than teen guys.. if we know what to do in certain instances and are advised well, we do fine most of the time. Granted, there are always exceptions, but the same exceptions are risks for teen guys too. Unfortunately, my mom can’t seem to understand this, and won’t let me out of her sight, even with my friends, anywhere in the city except for malls.

The car issue is an interesting one. Joran isn’t old enough to drive, so I have assumed it was the brothers’ car. In that case it would make sense for the brothers to be in the front seats and Joran & Natalee in back. But the impounded car is from Joran’s house, I think.

It is annoying to see people trash a person they dont even knows character. I can tell you i grew up with two worry-wart police homicide investigators for parents….I got s-faced and smoked weed on my senior trip. I was an honor student and “level headed” My friends and I took a cab to a sedy part of cancun and went to a brothel…We got robbed for all our cash and had to walk back to out hotel..This case made me realize how much worse could have happened.
When tragedy strikes , it is human nature for people to try and distance themselves from it- to try to say, “this couldn’t happen to me because I wouldn’t have done so-and-so”. The reality is that this was random and unfortunate, but she didn’t do anything wrong.

Annie and Lola – this afternoon, there just happened to be a car wreck out by the lighthouse, and a reporter was out by the lighthouse trying to track down some activity. So the reporter mentioned that he had just now seen a wreck happen.
As to “leaving with three guys”, there is a report that Natalee thought she was only leaving with one guy, actually walked out with just the one guy, then somehow it became three.
Maybe he didn;t see her leave, others said they tried to stop her. I feel something was put in her drink and she did not realize what she was doing when she left. It happened at a local college here recently involving baseball players.

Natalee could have been any of our daughters. Tom and I have discussed this and have felt it so important to get the message out there. We were teens too, not all that long ago but long enough.

i have gone out with two guys in NYC before by myself at 19 yrs. old while on vacation w my parents. Went to bars, even their appt. Luckily nothing happnd. Even though, can’t blame Natalee for doing something a lot of us have done.

You never know what can happen and there will come a time that you will probably think it safe to go around a corner, alone, with a guy for a few minutes. I didn’t see her get into the car… I talked to her when we all left the club and asked if she was ok, and she said yeah. I thought she was going to leave with another group of Mtn. Brook kids that were a few feet in front of us, b/c me and a couple others went to check another club to make sure no one got left. I guess she got in the car somewhere between walking with me and going up to the other group.

Then lately a few things have happened with girls in her school (a few pregnancies, a drug bust, even a murder) and she realized on her own why I am like I am.

Astrid, I also work with teens and few are those who see risks realistically. Teens usually believe they are better able to handle things than they actually are. Just the fact that you believe you, at 14, almost 15, are ready for more than your mom KNOWS you are ready for tells me you are not thinking realistically.

During the Haitian migration, I was a rescue diver who had the honor (and I mean that) of recovering those unfortunates who drowned on the way to Puerto Rico or the US. Some we were able to, others we could never find. The same applied for recovery operations for flood victims. It’s a very sad thing.

Hi, I am an arubian, born and raised, it’s true that late in the afternoon some women working for the radio station top 95.1 fm who supported the massive search today said that they spotted a girl in the backseat of a car hidden behind some bushes, they were looking in an area we called barcadera, it’s an very difficult area to access, and when the girls where walking towards the hidden car one of the two men ask her, what are you looking for and she anwser that they were looking for the missing girl Natalee and then she saw a girl in the backseat of the car again that looks like she said “exactly like Natalee” and when the man noticed that she has spotted the girl he ran back to the car and grab an axe and started to run after her, she run as fast as she could and went hidding in an bush, she called the radiostation and the police, but by the time they got there the car was gone, luckely shememorised the carnumber. After that the police went but they silenced the radiostation cause they fear that if it is Natalee they could put her life in danger, so they are investigating and if I get any news on this I will post it.
Let’s hope its her and that she will be rescued soon and reunited once again with her family.

Straight A students aren’t runaways. Probably just a misinterpretation. Maybe the family was travelling in Costa Rica and accidentally got separated, and maybe they contacted the local authorities for help. Hardly the same as “she ran off”, but stories just get misinterpretted. For all we know, she was 8 years old at the time and the parents just lost sight of her. I’m just making this up as an illustration of how that Costa Rica story might have even come up.

I know this may seem ridiculous, but I’ve pretty much thought the same way ever since. Though, I was more prone to temper tantrums back then.. I never was a kid for Disney movies or ‘dumb kids shows’.. I always liked nature, like I do now.. and I always tried to reason optimistically.

yes, I was there. It’s not a bad place… people went every night since we got there. I have pictures of me and my friends in the cut out in front of the place where you stick your face in the head of a shark and a sailor… it’s very tourist-y… a lot of us bought stuff from the gift shop.
On or about June 7, a reporter overheard a police radio discussing the need to be on the lookout for a certain type of car. Maybe that was to try to follow up on this report about Natalee in the backseat, and a guy “with an axe”.

—, this is my theory: 1) Natalee went out to the lighthouse with her new guy and his buddies, 2) someone came up to the car and grabbed her somehow, 3) her new guy and his buddies were drunk or drugged such that they didn’t put up a fight, 4) then it hits them that they’re in big trouble (and maybe they’ve been in trouble before and they don’t fess up very well).
Meanwhile, whoever has her has now learned that she’s more than just some girl. She’s American, she’s straight-A student, and from the Alabama Senator to the whole city of Birmingham, we want her back. So now, they are panicked. They’ve got her, they’re feeding her, and trying to figure out what to do next.
Not so different from the Elizabeth Smart story, where some nut grabs a girl. Elizabeth made it back home. So can Natalee.

Waitingtoknow… I’m worried about what I say about that night being misinterpreted… I was quoted in People recently and they twisted my words to make it seem like she was drunk and wild… She didn’t look like herself, but that was only because her eyes were heavy…. She didn’t have that much to drink, so she might have been drugged.
What I can’t figure out though is why all the extra FBI agents went down today. From what I understand they just assist with the case (and I’m sure doo all the forensics gathering) but I don’t even know if they can interview/interrogate these guys. I think they can only observe. You can bet that if they had free reign from day 1 this case would have been wrapped up by day 10 with murder charges and a body

His photo gallery consisted of photos of him with a variety of girls, holding money in front of a hotel or casino, strangling a shirtless kid with a belt, a kid who seemed to be in actual pain, while Joran smiled for the camera, and numerous shots of him drinking and flashing pretend gang signs.

And you then have him confirmed in the back seat of a car at 1:30 am, with Natalee, who had been drinking – and who later vanishes…
The two friends, who say they were in the front seat, claim that Joran “intimately fondled” Natalee…
And she was never heard from again.
And so, it seems not just plausible, given the above – but probable – that this short-fused kid, desperate to save his image he works so hard to cultivate as a player – would get violent with Natalee if he was rejected.
And we now hear of blood in the car…
And no video confirmation of them returning to the hotel…
And Natalee’s stepfather saying that he was sure Joran was lying after having spoken with him on Tuesday…
And Natalee’s mother calling Joran “cold, arrogant and hard” after meeting with him prior to his arrest.
Stories of abduction by black-clad security men (presumably the guards from the music festival who left the island a week earlier) – don’t add up, and again, the drop off story isn’t supported by any video, nor by the HI security or front desk people.
Given all the above, I think it’s almost certain that Joran killed her. That the body still has not been recovered tells me it’s probably been dumped in the ocean – recall FBI dive teams were called out last week.
I do find it incredible for the Prime Minister to say that there would be resolution ‘tomorrow’ after just saying there wasn’t any evidence, even the blood evidence wasn’t back….
I don’t see any other plausible explanation apart from Joran. If he weren’t guilty, his response to Mrs. Holloway-Twitty would have been of surprise that she were missing, concern, offering to help – not “hard, arrogant..” etc..
His behaviour toward the Twitty’s also reinforces my strong feeling he’s behind this…

It wouldnt surprise me if they did drug her… they would have had ample opportunity… we got free food and drinks at the hotel, so very few of us had anything at the club and Nat didn’t even bring a lot of money, so if she had anything at the club, that kid probably bought it for her, giving him the op. to slip something in it.

With her being so small…it wouldn’t take much for her to get intoxicated on alcohol or drugs……and wouldn’t take much for her to be alcohol poisoned either…. but I still can’t seem to see those guys being innocent…Just can’t get it out of my head that somebody put something in her drink at the bar.

Whatever the outcome, there needs to be a strong wakeup call here. Despite some of your arguments against interfering with a friend’s decision, one must take all things into consideration and “don’t let friends drive drunk”, (so to speak).
My view is that Natalee died at the hands of one or all of the three boys.
The authorities in Aruba don’t know what they are doing in the investigation because they do not have experience, and the situation is inflamed because they are frightened of losing US business, hence they are making forced decisions, several of which already have turned out to be unwise.
One possibility is the boys slipped Natalee drugs, perhaps in a drink they had in the car, and she died of an overdose in combination with the alcohol she already consumed. Alternatively Joran lost it when she rebuffed his sexual advances and he became violent and ended her life in an outburst. Surely the three were not so oblivious to the consequences of forceable rape that they embarked on a premeditated plan to rape and murder her, so I do not think that they intended that she die.
If the three were innocent of any wrongdoing and Natalee died accidentally they would not have had guilt feelings and would have called for help immediately. The story they told about the security guard, a version of the old “bushy haired stranger” deflection, would have been obvious to experienced police, but apparently the Arubans bit, hook, line and sinker. This of course led to the loss of significant evidence. The clothes the boys were wearing should have had evidence of violence. They type of dirt on shoes and possibly clothes would have indicated something. Resources were wasted investigating the security guards.
This idea of kidnapping into white slavery is about in the same category as UFO’s, especially when such obvious suspects as the three boy/men are right in front of our faces.
Let us hope that the Arubans can recover from their mistakes, and bring Natalee justice and her parents resolution.
I think that tomorrow I’ll ask my neighbor to call his kid in Brazil. He’s a special agent with U.S. State dept. and knows quite afew FBI types in Miami. Maybe he can tell us something. Everytime he comes up to visit he yaps a lot……worth a shot !!

One last comment. You referenced the”accidental death” type of deal (lie) scenario. If it goes that route of which I pray it does not, Aruba would be insane to ever go that route. No individual in Aruba is greater than their tourism. 70& of their GDP of which Americans make up 70% of that. If the Aruban government officials rad the site and hint, I believe they do, would be a bad idea.
Too many Arubans have expressed their fears that this could be devastating to their island. They have a point. Yes they want to find Natalee but their livelihood is at stake. With the eyes of the world on them and the media scrutinizing everything; they would be insane to cover it up. Perception is everything.

If she died from drugs or drink he would have called his Daddy that night and told him and case closed the next day. I believe he went off on her and raped her (maybe 2 brothers also did) and killed her. Rick, it is some version of “things gone bad at the beach” as you surmise. While possible, a knife is less likely in my view, so if this is Natalee’s blood, it was probably either from a punch type blow or even some sort of vaginal tear from rape. Also some type of drug overdoses can result in bleeding. It will be interesting to see if drugs can be detected in the blood sample. I am guessing that the blood volume is small; would Joran ride around with a hugh blood stain on his interior or in his trunk without trying to get rid of the evidence? Probably not.

Yeah, I was in the first group, and Nat was supposed to be in the second, so ours was less dramatic… We honestly just thought that she had overslept or something, and didn’t really think it was a big deal. We were actually talkin about how one of the chaperones who had lost a lot of sleep over us would probably be pissed b/c he would have to pay $75 to get a new ticket… we thought they would come back home a few hours later. When we landed in Atlanta though, the bus-ride was a little more hectic… We watched Dodgeball, though, and for the most part thought Nat was fine… but then near the end we started to get more worried. The next day we were all stressed because they still hadn’t found her and we feared something like this, but didn’t really believe it. It’s just gotten worse since then.

I’m not sure they dumped her in the water…….it’s not easy to dump a body in the ocean from the shore. If they throw her off the rocky cliff no garuantee the body won’t get stuck on the rocks. Also, the currents are coming on to the shore making it hard for a body to actually float out to sea and then it may not even sink. I think you would have to take her out to sea in a boat….weight it down and then drop it (Scott Peterson style). I believe she is on the island somewhere.

I don’t really know…. It might have been, but I didn’t see it. Granted, I was exactly on the look out for it either.
Unfortunately, it seems likely the Aruba authorities are suppressing information from not only the public, but worse, the family and friends. Fortunately, the FBI is on the case, although we don’t know to what extent. Of course, the FBI doesn’t make public statements, so even if they know the information released is incorrect or not complete, they wouldn’t say anything publicly.
The fact that Van Del Sloote’s father is a high ranking judicial official probably had something to do with him being released right away. The fact it took them 12 days to find blood in the car is inexcusable. Shouldn’t that have been the *first* place they thoroughly searched for evidence??
The Prime Minister saying he expects the case to be wrapped up tomorrow is whack. If they only know what they’re telling us, how can they solve the crime tomorrow? A cover-up, utter incompetence, or a combination? Who knows?
Hopefully, the truth will come out soon and Natalee’s friends and family will have closure on this case, hopefully for the best.

We all packed the day before, they asked us to at the meeting that afternoon, so that’s not unusual. We had to be up REALLY early and leave, so we all checked out the day before and packed up early. And to Rick, when I saw her, she looked… different. Her eyes were heavy, but she said she was fine. I guess I’m an idiot, but I believed her. I don’t want that to be misinterpretted though… People magazine put a slant to it, and I don’t want that to happen again.
Being packed shows that she was very responsible.

I think the info that Joran and his two friends almost getting into a fight with Natalee’s friends, for instance – is something that came from the students well after the fact – that could have been useful to the investigators. Just thinking out loud, but it could have drawn additional attention to him as an aggressive individual, and perhaps could have connected the dots sooner on his anger problems, stealing, drinking, etc…
So, maybe it is a good idea to share what is known – with the authorities, though, not necessarily with us on a message board.

I dont think kidnapping is plausible as there has been no ransom demanded. The kidnappers would have been a 17 year old and his two friends working in cahoots with some other individuals who would take Natalee from the island. They would have to have planned this, knowing that they could get Natalee to come with them, alone, away from her friends at 1:30 am, hours before she was leaving.

I want the media to kow all the names of the chaperones because I feel those adults need to account for where they were on the night and morning in question. They were the responsible parties on the trip. They are not at fault for the crime, but they didn’t help prevent it by being AWOL tourists…

Fox Update: Blood Sample Being Sent To States
UPDATED: Fox also now reports that the blood was sent both to Holland and the US for testing. Also, that a call came in relevant to the testing during an interview but whatever the context of the call, it did not change the authorities story as it stands.
It’s conjecture, but it would seem we might not be talking about simply a drop of blood given that samples were available to send offshore to two different destinations.

Reports Denied of Missing Teen Confession

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — Three young men who took an Alabama honors student to the beach before she disappeared must stay in jail, a judge ruled Saturday, as Aruba’s attorney general and others denied reports that one had confessed and said he would take police to the body.
As rumors mounted about the fate of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, a spokeswoman for her family, Carla Caccavale, told The Associated Press: “The family confirms that a body has not been found.”
Holloway vanished hours before she was expected at the airport to end a five-day trip to the Dutch Caribbean island with 124 classmates and seven chaperones celebrating their graduation from Mountain Brook High School, near Birmingham, Ala.
Police found her U.S. passport and packed bags in her hotel room.

No one has been charged in the case, and statements Saturday seemed to leave the investigation where it was several days ago.
Prosecutors refused to comment on a statement Friday night by Deputy Police Commissioner Gerold Dompig, who told The Associated Press that one of three young men in police custody had told police Friday night that “something bad happened.” He refused to identify which of the three young men made the statement.
A statement from the office of Attorney General Caren Janssen late Saturday said “Information given by non-official sources jeopardizes the ongoing investigation and creates expectations and situations that are not based on fact. ”
Police refused to say Saturday whether they discovered anything that would lead to Holloway, who was last seen in the early hours of May 30.

Referring to Dompig’s statement, prosecution spokeswoman Vivian van der Biezen said Saturday: “We neither confirm nor deny any information coming from other sources … (about) alleged statements of suspects in this case.”
The night Holloway disappeared, she spent part of the evening partying at a restaurant and then in the back seat of a car kissing a 17-year-old Dutch student, according to lawyers quoting from testimony from two Surinamese brothers – friends of the Dutch boy – arrested in the case along with him.
Antonio Carlo, the lawyer representing the Dutch minor, said he is confident his client is “100 percent innocent.”
“My client has not confessed to any crime,” he told The Associated Press.
Police also have detained two other men – former security guards at a hotel near the one where Holloway was staying.
One of their court-appointed lawyers, Noraina Pietersz, said her client also was innocent.
“Five suspects are being held,” van der Biezen said. “We are at a very crucial, very important moment in our investigation.”
Holloway’s mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, is feeling the strain, her brother-in-law told the AP on Saturday morning. Tom “Jar” Twitty said: “She has had amazing stamina up until now.”
Holloway’s family believes she is alive, Tom Twitty said. Rumors that she is dead are “an aggressive interpretation” of what police are saying, he told The Associated Press.
Prime Minister Nelson Oduber said on national radio Friday night that if something happened to Holloway, it would damage the reputation of this island of 97,000 people, which depends on tourism and is considered one of the safest spots in the Caribbean.
In Holloway’s hometown, her friends gathered after midnight at a church where people have been holding prayer vigils for her. Some hugged and cried; one woman left a flickering candle at the base of a wall decorated with messages to Holloway, who had earned a full scholarship to the University of Alabama, where she planned to study medicine.
Holloway’s mother and stepfather told The Birmingham News in Alabama that they discovered the Dutch boy’s connection to their daughter within 24 hours of her disappearance by talking to other students on the trip. They then found surveillance videotapes showing him playing poker with other Mountain Brook teens in their hotel casino two days before she vanished.
A lawyer for one of the Surinamese – Satish Kalpoe, 18, whose brother, Deepak, 21, also is in custody – said they told police they took Holloway to Arashi Beach, on the northern part of the island, in the early hours of May 30.
According to their police statement, they did not get out of the car, defense lawyer David Kock said. Instead, Holloway and the Dutch teen, an honors student at the Aruba International School whom she had met at the casino in her hotel, “were in the back seat kissing.”
They also told police that they dropped Holloway at her Holiday Inn at about 2 a.m. and last saw her being approached by a man in a security guard uniform before they drove off, Kock said.
The brothers told police the young woman was drunk and refused to get out of the car, said Noraina Pietersz, who is representing Antonius “Mickey” John, 30, one of the two former security guards. He and Abraham Jones, 28, have been detained since Sunday and have denied any connection to Holloway.
The three young men said Holloway stumbled in the parking lot of the hotel but refused help from her Dutch escort, Kock said.
Holiday Inn employees say security cameras did not record Holloway’s return. A Holiday Inn guard who worked the overnight shift that day said he did not see her, said Pietersz, who said she reviewed the guard’s statement to police.
Aruba has an independent local government; the Netherlands is responsible for its defense and foreign affairs.

Fox Update: Blood Sample Being Sent To States
UPDATED: Fox also now reports that the blood was sent both to Holland and the US for testing. Also, that a call came in relevant to the testing during an interview but whatever the context of the call, it did not change the authorities story as it stands.
It’s conjecture, but it would seem we might not be talking about simply a drop of blood given that samples were available to send offshore to two different destinations.

What I don’t understand is why it took 12 days to find the blood in the car. That should have been the first place they searched for evidence. It’s possible it’s a tiny amount of blood that wasn’t spotted right away (which shouldn’t happen with competent CSI, but this is a small island). However, like GaGuy said, it’s being sent to both the US and Holland. That would indicate it probably isn’t just a trace amount.
Also, it was reported that it was sent to the states to be compared to her mother’s blood. However, her mother said she didn’t even know about the blood being found, so she obviously hadn’t submitted a sample for testing.

DNA usually takes a few days, but they can get do a simple blood type test that can rule out, but not definitively confirm whose blood it is.

Nothing is being said out in the open anymore, unti they are sure about the info. Authorities realized that giving press conferences only makes things worse, because the international media takes on piece of info and make their own info. The family has suffered from these crazy acts from the international media. Can you just imagine how the mother felt when CNN, FOX published that One confessed and that they found Natalee Dead, her body? I’m not saying that the family isn’t expecting that, but the family went nuts in the hotel at about 10 in the night on friday. I don’t know for sure about the car. I saw them towing a silver four door, small, but not a hatchback. I assumed it was the right car because everyone talked about her leaving in a silver car. But I don’t know. I guess they have towed in several cars in this investigation.
Face the reality: 99,9% of Americans youngsters that come to Aruba will go all out in nightclubs. They drink to the fullest all night long, they use drugs and they dont’t care with whom they will end up that night. They are on the island to party!! You can’t imagine how many girls are leaving local bars with beach bums, strangers in cars, in a taxi or just walking. I heard from a beach-bum that Natalee was the whole week partying and drunk (where are the chaperones on this moment!).
I talked to a friend at CNN this morning. He said: (1) much embarassment at CNN re the “confession” story–he said it was late and didn’t go thru correct approvals; (2) the Laura Bradley story (the other missing woman from Aruba 5 years ago) is essentially BS–her parents sued the cruise line and their case was dismissed basically because they lied to the court–withheld info that Laura had been seen hundreds of times by others–implication was Laura just ran away–not a “disappearance” and people knew where she was etc; (3) the sex slave trade rumors are complete BS–there is no such thing.

The blood (if its Natalee’s) can be explained by consensual sex with Natalee IF she was a virgin or starting her period. This would also require all 3 guys to agree that the events included sex. If they all say “I don’t know how Natalee’s blood got in the car” but have uniformly agreed on the sex then the blood may prove nothing.
If it was in fact in the the trunk of a small 4 door then that’s going to get a bit tougher to explain away.
It could be explained away by one suspect perhaps, but with three it might get difficult to stick to the story…sure seems a shame they gave them a few days to go over it and practice it instead of grilling them seperately from the beginning.

CNN did run a story last night about Amy Bradlee. The family sued the cruise liner, but the lawsuit was dismissed when the judge found the family didn’t disclose that there had been over a hundred reports of her being seen in Curacao and she didn’t seem to be under duress.

Last week, CNN reported a story about a girl who disappeared from his hometown seven years ago (I guess in TX) and now she’s shown up in Kentucky. Interviewed by phone, the ex-missing girl said she does not want any contact with her relatives, including her own mother. That may be NH’s case, since she has already runway once three years ago.
Also, how could three drunk well-to-do boys dispose of a body in the middle of the night without anyone (FBI, Aruba police, many volunteers) finding some trace of it after almost two weeks of search throughout a tiny island like Aruba? If that turn out to be the case, someone else is involved, ’cause these spoiled guys do not seem able to do more than digging a shallow grave in the sand.
Atlanta, I guess, at this point, reporters will do anuthing to “embelish/dramatize” their stories…..

Nice theory, JPGR, but from everything I’ve read and heard about Natalee, she doesn’t fit the “runaway” bill. I live in TX, and the girl that ran away went to Texas A&M University, at the time. She was in a huge fight with her mother, over grades, so she ran away. And it was no secret that she didn’t have the greatest relationship with her family. This simply isn’t the case with Natalee. I don’t know her personally, but some of the posters on this board do, and I’m sure they’ll attest to the fact that she would never do that.

I just want to say that I do not in any way blame Natalee, the parents, the chaperones, or anyone except whoever is responsible for her disappearance. She is a beautiful young woman who by all accounts had her head on straight and had a bright future because of it. I truly hope that she is found and found ALIVE. My heart goes out to her family and her friends (some of which should be reading this). I absolutely become enraged when I hear people placing blame where it doesn’t belong or taking shots at her character when we don’t even know what happened.
What is Natalee like? Did she date in high school or more of a study type? I was an honor student, but studied during the day, and partied every night. I think the more we know about her, the more chance to find her…

The best news is coming from Aruba locals who are posting on this site. This morning, one of them said that the family has officially asked FOX and CNN to not post anything unless it is from official channels, and after some back-and-forth yesterday, FOX and CNN have agreed to comply with the family’s wishes.
An Aruba local posted that on Friday night, the family heard the CNN “she’s dead” report, thought it was something for real, jumped in the car to go look and see if the police were out finding her body. How completely horrible for the family. Yesterday was just flat a bunch of incorrect information – and I agree with one poster, it was probably the police trying to gain a confession from one of the three by saying that another had already confessed.

So then, some local, seedy-type grabs her, and now he doesn’t know what to do, with all the international interest in this story, the seedy-type is trying to figure out how to return her and get away with it.
I can’t even watch the news now because of the emotional rollercoaster they put uas through. I just about lost it when they said she was killed… I was hysterical and drove home from PC in the rain because I had to get home to my friends. These false reports are not only hurtful, but dangerous. I hope that the news stations do try to be more respectful now.

How do you know the blood isn’t hers? Everything I’m hearing is that they’re still doing DNA tests here in the states, as well as Holland.
They never dropped her off anywhere at the hotel. We were up all night, we would have seen her. They said they dropped her off by the pool where there were no cameras… however, what they didn’t realize (because they never actually dropped her off) is that we were all out there all night long. I guess they were counting on us going up to our rooms after the club like we had done the previous nights… if they had actually dropped her off like they claimed, they would know otherwise.

Still, so far, there is no blood, no sign of a struggle, so hope for the best. People do think twice before harming an American.

Ok, so maybe they are the ones that decided to hold onto her. They have her stashed at someone’s house, and now they are panicked and trying to worm there way out of their poor decision.
Now that is possible.
It closed at about 1, 1:30 and we left around then. A couple of my friends and I went to another club for a minute to make suer that no one went there and were being left behind. When we all went to the hotel, we sat outside at the pool for the rest of the night until REALLY late.
These boys panicked over something… that is why they never went back to the hotel.

pleasefindher, you are correct that God is sufficient and that He’s got the whole world in His hands. The Laci Peterson story had an unfortunate outcome, but Lo and Behold, not only did her body surface (a miracle by itself) but so did that of her unborn child (two miracles then).
God certainly has His hand on this situation and we’ll just have to trust Him and see what happens next.

Not blaming Natalee for her own poor judgment and poor choices is what sets up our young adults to make the same fatal errors. No one should be saying “we don’t blame, Natalee”. I hold her parents responsible for their poor choices, her friends responsible for their poor choices, her chaperones responsible for their poor choices and Jaron responsible for his predatory ways.

I participate in a program called “Red Nose” where we drive people from clubs when they are too drunk to drive – they are putting their lives in my hands at that time , a “poor choice’” you could say – but it is that trust that represents the best in the human spirit! If we lose that, believe me you won’t be safe even if you never leave your house!
