Natalee Holloway; Saturday June 11

According to Fox News scroll and the AP; a fourth suspect has been arrested in Aruba in conjunction with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. The investigators are not discussing it at this time. Thanks to the Riehl World for the initial information. Looks as though the AP is now confirming it as well. Also, thanks to Chris Lupo for the tip this morning!

It was unclear if the 6 a.m. arrest was related to the admission. The same team of officers who arrested five others in the case during the past week went to a home just outside Oranjestad, the capital, and came out with a handcuffed man who looked to be in his 20s.

Saturday morning, police refused to comment on the arrest or say if they had discovered anything overnight that solved the mystery of what happened to Natalee Holloway, 18, who was last seen in the early hours of May 30.

*** PRESS CONFERENCE AT 4:00PM EDT *** via ArubaTag

Bondia, a local paper in Papiomento, is saying

However, sources of Bon Dia Aruba confirmed that none [referring to a confession being made] of this is true and that very probably authorities are going to take steps against the two media outlets. Already Commisionary Dompig assured that he was going to ask for AP to rectify their story and from what he could understand, AP agreed to do so.” (Translation by Aruba Girl)

Local Radio is reporting that the Prime Minister is upset that CNN is not retracting the story. (Hat tip Leila)

1015 – Van der Straten (head of investigation) on the air, he defends his police department. Info is false about confession. They’re investigating still. (Liela)

Police Official said that the news was not correct, and pleaded trough TOP FM to give their investigation team a chance to work on the case. According to Police Official Mr. Jan van de Straten this kind of false news is ruining their investigation. (Teo)

1035 Local Radio has a call in show going, the conversation is all about CNN calling itself the most trusted name in news and they are not telling the truth! The population is very upset, very upset!

1041 Press Conference starting very soon

Prosecution service is giving information, “At this moment neither confirm or deny information from any sources, they are at a crucial moment in the investigation, and they have 5 suspects in custody.” (not exact, but very close)

Press conference ends.

The Dutch legal system has 6 hours before they need to give the status of a detainee. So the person who was picked up today is not officially a suspect

Amy has this news (not confirmed)

Blood has been found in the silver Honda Civic impounded Thursday by officials, this car is supposedly owned by the suspect detained in the case of missing Natalee Holloway, Joran van der Sloot.
The biological parents of Natalee Holloway had supposedly taken blood tests yesterday, to confirm if the blood found in the car is indeed from Natalee. The results are known. Hopefully this will be revealed in the press conference of this morning at 10 AM. This news is yet to be confirmed TOM – It was not confirmed at the press conference.

HyScience wonders “Are we looking at the possibility of an accidental death, possibly from an overdose of ….. ? Could the fourth suspect be the/a ‘seller’ ? ” Pure supposition, but an interesting thought.

Fox News Television is reporting that Suspect has confessed to killing Natalee. via HyScience. Local coverage still has not said so.

(Red) Whether the confession story turns out to be true or not; it was irresponsible of CNN to go with it before the family was ever notified first. Then the rest of the media followed. No one should ever find out their child may have passed away by the media. CNN – The compassionate news network. (Red)

UPDATE – 1:45 pm - Family feeling the strain of this experience. I cannot even imagine the stress and strain and the toll that this would take upon an individual? Remember, what this is all about, Natalee & her family.

Holloway’s mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, is feeling the strain, her brother-in-law told the AP as prosecutors prepared to make a statement Saturday morning.

When asked whether she was holding up, Tom “Jar” Twitty said, “No … She has had amazing stamina up until now, but …”

The women in the family remained sequestered in their hotel rooms while the Twitty brothers stood in the lobby, looking stressed amid a gay scene of tourists pouring onto a brightly colored bus outside advertising “Xtreme Party Cruise.”

That is tough and has to be heart breaking.

If the worst does come to pass, we (and this is only my point of view/belief) can rest assured that Natalee is in a better place and can no longer be hurt.
I’m sure if that is the case she is with all of us and would be humbled by the out-pouring of prayers and support for her.

      Running from Arlene:

The family .. said this after the “something bad happened.” quote came out.

A relative said her family continues to believe she is alive. Rumors raging on the island that she is dead are “an aggressive interpretation” of what police are saying, Jar Twitty, the brother of Holloway’s stepfather, told the AP.

Doesn’t seem like they were told, does it?

    12. RunningFrom Arlene on June 11th, 2005 12:05 pm

The Aruban people have no need to be pissed at CNN… I’m a family friend and the family was told by the FBI of the confession 2 hours before CNN broke the story… it definitely leaked, but it’s because of a member of the police staff wanted to be a hero and get his name on the news… They don’t understand the magnitude of this story at home here in the U.S. This is every parents nightmare and is horrifying every family that it could easily happen to them….. Everyone wants answers… and CNN had every right to go to the air with it….. They reported exactly what was told to the family around 9pm EST last night.

    13. AmericaninAruba on June 11th, 2005 12:32 pm

    14. RunningFromArlene on June 11th, 2005 12:35 pm

Believe me…. the call came at 9pm last night …. the family was distraught….. the American FBI met with the family…… if my daughter’s body hadn’t surfaced, I wouldn’t believe it either….. and due to their own privacy, they aren’t going to release any info that they have received…..

The local affiliate in Birmingham WBRC had a reporter in the Holiday Inn at 11:30pm…..and reported live that the family had gathered and it was extremely emotional…. Hopefully, the body will be located today and they can have closure.

    15. AmericaninAruba on June 11th, 2005 12:37 pm

Do you ahve a link to that Birmingham news??

    16. RunningFromArlene on June 11th, 2005 12:40 pm

no… Fox News went live to that affiliate at approximately 11:30pm….. the reporter was live via cell… followed the family for about 30 mins….. they were in a van…and initially went to the lighthouse area and then turned around and went to the police station…. supposedly where 2 of the suspect were being held……

I am mostly disturbed by the reports that authorities can neither confirm or DENY the reports that one of the young men confessed to killing Natalee (as sources released last night). The fact that they will not deny it, means it’s most likely true. For if it were untrue, they could and would deny it.

They won’t confirm, because they are not ready to do so at this time.

      it’s a very sad situation! :(

There were over 100 other classmates with Natalee on this trip, yet I haven’t read a single article about the police interviewing her roommates or other friends things she might have said or done with Van der Sloot (earler in the trip…or that night.) I’ve also read some stuff that she was ill in the bathroom of Carlos’ and Charlies just before leaving…There seems to be VERY little information about the specifics of that evening, which clearly alot of people know. I’m wondering why?

If Natalee’s mother wants qucik results to find the whereabouts of her daughter, she needs to more assertive and vocal about the confusion and disoderly way the search is being handled by the authorites. 38. San on June 15th, 2005 3:59 pm

Authorities also may be looking into the possibility that some kind of a “date rape” drug was used on Holloway. Police intend to question some of Van Der Sloot’s friends to see if he has a history with the drug, sources told FOX News.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,159601,00.html. This is probably the reason that reports said she was sick. They probably saw the drug working and made their move when the time was right in getting her out of the bar. Now my question is was the bartender involved in putting the drug in her drink.

Message for Aruba….like Las Vegas….”What visits there, stays there!”

DAY 16 IN THE ‘DANCE OF CLOWNS’ IN ARUBA. 16 FUCKING DAYS AND YOU MORONS ARE JUST NOW COLLECTING ‘EVIDENCE’ FROM THE KILLERS HOME. HOW FUCKING STUPID CAN YOUR POLICE IDIOTS BE? DON’T SUPPOSE HIS ‘FAMILY’ DESTROYED ANYTHING THAT COULD INCRIMINATE THEIR SON…..DO YA?

BULLSHIT!!! THAT VAN DER SLOOT PUNK MURDERED THAT POOR HOLLOWAY GIRL AND THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS IT. THAT KID HAS BEEN OUT-OF-CONTROL FOR YEARS AND BEING THE SON OF A WANNABE JUDGE WILL NOT SAVE HIS SORRY ASS. THE WHOLE VAN DER SLOOT FAMILY HAD BEST START LOOKING FOR A NEW ISLAND TO LIVE ON.

ARUBA WILL NEVER, EVER AGAIN BE CONSIDERED A SAFE PLACE OR A HAPPY PLACE. ENJOY YOUR COVER-UP AND START LOOKING FOR A NEW ECONOMY….YOUR OLD ONE JUST SLID INTO THE ABYSS!!!!

YOUR POLICE AGENCIES HAVE TO BE THE MOST INCOMPETENT CLOWNS ON THIS PLANET…ON DISPLAY FOR ALL TO SEE.

CAN YOU IMAGINE ANY AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL THAT WOULD NOW ALLOW THEIR STUDENTS TO TRAVEL TO YOUR ‘ISLAND OF HORRORS’, EVER AGAIN? YOU SHOULD THANK WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS BUMBLING INVESTIGATION…..THEY HAVE TAKEN YOUR ISLAND INTO THE FINANCIAL SHITTER FOR DECADES TO COME.

THE CRIME, WHILE DESPICABLE AND HORRIFIC, IS NOT YOUR BIG PROBLEM. IT’S THE UNBELIEVABLE COVER-UP AND AMATEUR LAW ENFORCEMENT THAT HAS THE WORLD LOOKING AT ARUBA AND SAYING: “STAY AWAY FROM THAT NIGHTMARE!!!!”.

    40. San on June 15th, 2005 9:10 pm

THE DUTCH GOVERNMENT LET A 17 YEAR OLD PUNK RUIN ARUBA SO THEY COULD COVER UP WHAT HAPPENED. JUST BECAUSE HIS FATHER IS A HIGH RANKING OFFICIAL (JUDGE), DOESN’T MEAN HE GETS A GET OUT OF JAIL CARD FOR FREE AND LET EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ISLAND PAY FOR WHAT HAPPENED. THE UNITED STATES HAS TO PUT MORE PRESSURE ON THE GOVERNMENT AND DEMAND ANSWERS. THEY NEED TO SUPPORT THE HOLLOWAY FAMILY, THEY CAN’T DO IT ALONE. IF IS WASN’T FOR THE NEWS AGENCIES IN AMERICA KEEPING THE PRESSURE ON THROUGH TV AND NEWS PAPERS THIS WOULD ALL HAVE BEEN SWEPTED UNDER THE RUG. THIS NATALEE HOLLOWAY HAS AN IMPECCABLE REPUTATION AND TRYING TO ATTACK IT WON’T WORK. IF ANYONE WATCHED GERALDO RIVERA LAST NIGHT HE SAID HE OVERHEARD AN OFFICIAL SAY HOW I CAN PROSECUTE THIS KID HE’S MY BEST FRIENDS SON. THE DUTCH BETTER GET A GRIP IN THIS CASE AND FAST. THEY NEED TO REMOVE ALL OFFICIALS ON THIS CASE BECAUSE THEY ALL KNOW THE FATHER AND THEY ARE AFRAID TO DO SOMETHING BECAUSE THEY MIGHT HURT HIS FEELINGS, GIVE ME A BREAK.

    41. tena on June 16th, 2005 1:27 pm

The unfortunate aspect of this situation is the seemingly blatant disregard for urgency. I can tell you the reason that it is so pronounced is because island communities are tight knit. I am from the Virgin Islands and I can tell you we’ve had murder cases that are 10 years old and STILL unsolved because someone is related to someone who is a friend of someone whose cousin’s sister’s boyfriend’s mother works with the police chief’s sister’s aunt. It’s maddening but it is the nature of an island citizery. This is not to say that I condone this behavior and lack of accountability. I am saying that knowing what you’re facing allows you to futher understand why this is a tragedy and actions can be taken to lessen frustration and solve this crime.

The facts are these: a young woman, having just celebrated a great accomplishment, goes to a Aruba, a world reknown Caribbean jewel. She does what teenagers that have graduated from high school, hanging out, on vacation, do: she parties with some friends, drinks, and “socializes” with a couple of teenage natives (we can’t call it anything else at this point because no one really knows, do they? All we’ve got is the word of three teenage boys that have important reputations to maintain).

Ignoring all the rumour and innuendo, the fact remains that a young girl is MISSING. Someone knows where she is. Someone is definetly lying, no question. And I’m leaning towards her “Dutch escort”. There is no video to support his claim that he and his friends returned her to the hotel. In addition, there is no video showing her leaving the car and being approached by a Black man. There was blood in his car (and I don’t know any teenaged dude that’s just going to keep residue of ANY bodily fluid in his car because–well, that’s just nasty). Frankly, that is all the evidence I need.

I’m really not appreciating the delay and the seemingly apathetic attitude toward this girl’s disappearance. The area of importance where this is concerned appears to be askew. Why can’t we get the facts about this case? There’s not a lot of digging that needs to happen. Whoever admitted that “something bad happened” needs to say what “it” was. We need real information and none of it should be made available to the press until the parents know. Period. American authorities are going to continue tap dancing around this and doing the “diplomatic shuffle” and a murderer is going to be shuffled back to Holland without so much as an explanation as to what happened.

    42. terps on June 16th, 2005 4:50 pm

I think the comment below is right on target. It also makes those of us who care feel like we are doing something, anyway.

I wish there was some kind of national registry, some national petition of grievience that I could sign. I never had any plans of going to Aurba, but I wish there was some way to add my voice of disgust — disgust over the ineptitude of the Arubian authorities.

I’ve become convinced that they are feigning incompetence as a way of deliberately sabotaging the investigation. They’ve decided that they can live with being thought of as incompetent, if the end result is that the lurid details remain hidden. In the end, they will claim it was an accidental death, that there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. This sickens me.

I feel extremley sorry for her family and her friends. I pray every day that they find her. I am not sure that she is alive at this point, but just finding her will add some closure to this case. I have gone over different scenerios in my head of what I thought could happen, and I just really can’t imagine. I think this is possibly the most logical story:

The dutch escort probably gave her some date rape drug. With all of the drinking and the drugs combined, I think she possibly overdosed. All 3 boys seeing this probably freaked out and disposed of her body. In their heads at that point they are ultimatley responsible for what happened (which would be correct). In this case, it would probably be 2nd degree murder. I would say in the next month or two her body will be washed to shore.

    45. david on June 17th, 2005 10:59 pm

I believe the fact that Joran has a father who works for the judicial system has led to a major block in the investigation of the murder of Natalee Holloway. He was the last person seen with her. He knows what happened. If her death was accidental, we would have been informed by now. Obviously, Joran had something to do with her death. If a new story involving another party occurs this late in the game it is highly suspect. The other party would have been implicated by now. I feel that unless a true investigation of and trial for Joran Van Der Sloot does not occur then America should boycott Aruba as a vacation spot, as a spot for college and high school celebrations, etc. If Aruba does not protect American citizens, we don’t need to go there.

    46. Daniel_in_Tx on June 28th, 2005 11:06 am

Does anyone know of a website or physical mailing address that I could send a letter of support for Natalee and her family to? I’ve looked around on the internet and haven’t seen anything yet. I would really feel that I’ve done something worthwhile for the Holloways if I could send them an actual letter!

    47. Charlotte Criswell on July 2nd, 2005 4:10 pm

Maybe, Paul Van Der Sloot put Natalee’s body in a suit case and flew it somewhere off the island, they should trace his steps and flight record. I think I read when Joran got arrested that Paul was flying in from somewhere to see his son. HUM, that was 3 weeks after the fact, he had opportunity to sneak her body off the island way before then. She was not a large girl, probably would fit in a good size suit case. The only way I feel she could be alive at this point is she was sold into slavery. IT IS POSSIBLE!!! Sad but possible. Char

My heart aches for this family. I feel that there is a conspiracy going on in Aruba. I feel that someone has been paid off. I wonder if anyone has considered calling in a psychic, like the ones that the police use. This just might be helpful.
