    7. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:33 am

I would like to know which one they think did it. Or rather, is the one leading them to the crime scene (supposedly).

    8. Tom on June 11th, 2005 3:34 am

Thanks you everyone for participating in swarm journalism. Everyone added something and it is appreciated as we got a story together with each in their own homes or offices, adding little bits, till our version of tonight will be better than the professionals out there.

Thank you Thank you Thank you

      Tom

    9. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:34 am

I wonder why they did it. closure is important for her family.

    10. Nate on June 11th, 2005 3:35 am

Hmmm…I remember when I went to Spring Break when I was 18…and I was a pastor’s kid…squeaky clean image just like this girl…boy, I’m glad my parents never found out what I did…

    11. Lola on June 11th, 2005 3:35 am

I think I heard somewhere on tv that it was the yougest one Joron.

    12. ch3vynova72 on June 11th, 2005 3:36 am

      Final Conclusion:

Nobody knows nothing (about the girl). All just speculations.

    13. Red on June 11th, 2005 3:36 am

Ok folks I have to get some sleep to be up early for either a story I do not want to blog on or hear CNN apologizing and retracting every thing.

Thanks for a the comments and news updates. Great job all.

Before everyone goes to bed, please say a prayer for Natalee and her parents.

      Thanks,
      Red

As of 3:35 EST on Saturday, AP is sticking to the story:

“Deputy Police Commissioner Gerold Dompig told The Associated Press that the man was leading police late Friday to the scene. He refused to identify which of the three young men who took her to a beach the night she disappeared made the statement.

Early Saturday, police refused to say if they had discovered anything.”

Add to that the confirmed stories of the Holloway family at the police station, Joran not in his cell, the police late night meeting, and it all seems pretty certain and straightforward that this ‘retraction’ business is either to honor a promise to the family and/or protect the crime scene.

AP would never publish a quote from a named police official stating that a suspect confessed and was leading them to the crime scene’ – if it did not happen. AP would never invent quotes like this, name the speaker and continue to stand behind it if it weren’t true..

    15. Lola on June 11th, 2005 3:36 am

But if it were drugs then why would he be the one to confess? would it not have been all of them involved?

    16. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:37 am

what about that couple from boston her saw her sick in the bathroom of that bar….do you think she was loaded on drugs before, died on them and they panicked?? so many questions

    17. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:37 am

Well I know that they keep saying Jaron isn’t in his cell or whatever… which is why people are speculating that he was the one that confessed.. however, one of the others could have confessed and he could be leading them there b/c the other one is down for questioning or something, you know?

I don’t think it was an intentional thing. Hopefully, it was a very unfortunate accident….

    18. Nate on June 11th, 2005 3:37 am

Hey Tom, your welcome…I enjoy reporting Aruban news from the comforts of my midwestern America apartment!

    19. Lola on June 11th, 2005 3:38 am

Well rick that is good enough for me.. Great post and very clarifiying

    20. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:39 am

      It is almost 100% Joran.

DIARIO (Aruba newspaper) said he had “anger management problems” and other reports were that he got into a fight with Natalee’s fellow students. Add alcohol, possibly drugs, and a spurned sexual advance in front of his two friends, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it turned out that he got violent with her.

There were photos on his website of him mock strangling another shirtless kid. Other photos of him drinking in bars, drinking with friends, waving around cash, flashing gang signs, etc..

In fact, I’d fall off my chair if it werent Joran.

    21. Lola on June 11th, 2005 3:39 am

goodnight all… prayer for Natalee and her folks.

    22. Duck from Dallas on June 11th, 2005 3:41 am

Fox just said PM denies confession report.

    23. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:41 am

jaron is the one making out with her so i guess maybe he feels more responsible
i hope she wasn’t raped or tortured. i hope it was a mistake or quick.

    24. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:41 am

The brothers also said in their statements that she refused to get out of the car at the beach and so any intimate contact took place in the back seat of the car. This could make a young man angry if he took a drunk young woman to a beach for some “alone time” and she refused to get out of the car.

    25. Tiptoes on June 11th, 2005 3:42 am

I agree with Rick, though FOX just stated that the PM said any stories regarding confessions were lies. I just feel very badly for the family this night…

    26. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 3:42 am

Bottom line, these boys “knew” what happened from the start and they decided to not come clean and even lie and involve others that were innocent. They should all do some time, accident or not.

    27. friend of mickey john on June 11th, 2005 3:43 am

      Rick-
      I agree.
So have they have been looking in the se wild side/s of hooiberg?
They must be all over with flashlights.

    28. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:43 am

Were ya’ll aware that apparently a “bloody mattress” was found…

    29. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:43 am

Dragonfly – yes. And factor in the ‘anger management’ thing – which suggests that he’s been violent on several occasions and is getting some sort of professional help – and it seems quite likely that this could have happened…

    30. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:43 am

maybe the other 2 were afraid of jaron anmd didn’t tell….isn’t daddy a judge?

    31. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:43 am

Courtney – that was true, but found to be dog blood, not human…

    32. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:44 am

I may be totally wrong about that and I guess we will all know soon enough, but that is just my theory based on all statements I have heard or read. The blood on the mattress ended up being from a dog, Courtney.

    33. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:45 am

Jaron’s father is a judge-in-training or something one level below judge. I suspect the reason the two friends didn’t say anything is that their participation makes them guilty and they didn’t want to rat out a friend… Apparently the other two brothers come from wealthy families too.

    34. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 3:45 am

      Somebody from MA says y’all?

    35. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:45 am

      the matress was ruled out

    36. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:45 am

      Ew…

I was just reading some stuff, the thing said it was from 6/5, but there was no follow up o n it ~ thanks for clarifying.

    37. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:46 am

That was also my thought. Although I take it they are from a “good” family also, I wondered if they were intimidated by him and his father’s power.

    38. Duck from Dallas on June 11th, 2005 3:46 am

she could have drank too much and expired, ran away, or just have fallen….. we are all just speculating

    39. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:46 am

Yeah. I’ve lived in MA all my life, in a part that’s very close to RI – so I have a combination RI and Boston accent, but in the last year or so my accent has gone south … as in… southern, it’s weeeird.

    40. arubian person on June 11th, 2005 3:46 am

Be aware !! No mather what the truth will come out…
Please do not forget we do have the FBI forensic team sweating now ….
They are really the best in the world.

    41. ch3vynova72 on June 11th, 2005 3:47 am

We are all dreaming. When you wake up, you will remember nothing pertainig to this story. We are all dreaming.

    42. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:48 am

Duck, while possible, if she drank too much or fallen, the three boys wouldn’t have said they dropped her off at her hotel, where a security guard escorted her in. They’d have taken her to a hospital, called the police… Also, if it were an accident, they would likely have found the body, unless it was hidden, which points to guilt…

And, AP sticks to reports of a confession..

If it walks like a Duck, quacks like a duck….

    43. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 3:48 am

If the “something bad” was just an accident and the 3 were not really to blame then they are absolute idiots for not reporting it from the start or telling the cops when they were first questioned. Nobody is that stupid.

    44. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:48 am

i wish we were dreaming and that natalee was jennifer wilbanks!

    45. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:49 am

I just hope that this mother gets to take her daughter home very soon. I have prayed every night for her safety, but also that her mother be able to take her home no matter what the outcome. There are plenty of mothers out there that would give anything to have their daughter or son home, dead or alive. It really broke my heart when her mother said she would not leave Aruba without her. I have hoped all along that she wouldn’t have to.

    46. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:50 am

that broke my heart too dragonfly

    47. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:51 am

Well by “something bad” they could have meant that she had an overdose… and if she overdosed on drugs that THEY provided her… on drugs that THEY were selling, or got [obviously] illegally, then they could have been more concerned with drug charges, rather than murder. For some weird reason.

Or maybe she od’d or whatever and passed out and they left her somewhere, but after a while when they realized she was missing, rather than make it look like they were involved they tried to cover it up [for the same reasons]

Or maybe they are just wicked fucked up individuals.

    48. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:51 am

See, I know that everyone was just livid over our “Runaway Bride” and I understood the anger, but also I couldn’t help thinking of how lucky we would be if all of the missing stories ended like that. Be mad that she was so inconsiderate, but she was found alive just like everyone was praying for.

    49. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:52 am

i have a daughter and i wondered how we would afford to stay in aruba indefinately if this was our kid. i even thought about starting a foundation or something to help wth expenses in cases like this. SAD: (

    50. Rick on June 11th, 2005 3:53 am

Jessi – Holiday Inn is letting them have a bunch of rooms for free, covering all the costs…

    51. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:54 am

Jessi, I have a little girl. She is only 10 right now, but I know that if something like this happened I would never be able to go home without her either. I just ached for her mother when I read that because I could totally relate to that dedication and that feeling of “my life doesn’t exist or go on without her”. I think that is exactly how I would feel.

    52. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:54 am

I’m sure that there is a hotel or whatever allowing them to stay there for free, and I’m sure they have stuff being donated and whatnot…

However – they’re VERY wealthy. The whole “old money” thing… so I’m sure the cost is NO concern to them right now, although even if they were poor, in a situation like this I doubt money would be a concern…its their little girl out there, after all.

    53. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 3:56 am

Agree Courtney but if what you say happened then they are guilty of involuntary manslaughter. The best thing for the guilty parties and the families would have been to come clean. Right away.

    54. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:56 am

I can’t even imagine how my parents would react if something bad happened to me.

I had my college orientation from Wednesay – today and my dad dropped me off, and about 6 minutes after he walked away from my room he called me and was like “It was the weirdest thing leaving you there… I dont know how to react without you coming with me, youre my little girl ~ I’m not supposed to leave you places”…

So if my dad couldn’t even leave me @ a college campus where I’ll be living for the next 4 years, – but he knew he’d be seeing me in 48 hours, and that I’d be calling a million times…. I can’t imagine what he would do if he thought he would never speak to me or see me again.

    55. Nate on June 11th, 2005 3:57 am

ok, this is just a dumb little question for my own info…what time zone is Aruba in?

    56. Jim on June 11th, 2005 3:57 am

I think all these reports will turn out true, and we’ll find out that the Joran kid killed her. Perhaps it was accidental, or perhaps he thought he could get away with it. I think his 2 friends covered for him, and they probably dumped the body somewhere else.

I have a feeling the forensic tests on the car came back today, and that, along with other evidence, they had the kid cornered.

With all the reports on how this kid acted, the profiles and pics, the altercation at the bar, and the reported anger management issues, it just adds up. About the only thing about this entire thing that has. Surprised this kid wasn’t arrested the first night.

    57. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:58 am

Well yeah, but I’m sure they didn’t think about “well we could get charged w/ involuntary manslaughter” you know? They were probably more concerned with “We have to make sure they dont think we intentionally killed this girl” or whatever.

Generally, involuntary manslaughter is the last thing that comes to peoples minds when things like this happen. Although – their not coming forward does NOT help their case @ all.

    58. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 3:59 am

Aruba is EST… the same time zone as New York, Boston, Miami etc.

    59. Dan on June 11th, 2005 3:59 am

Aruba is in the same time zone as the East Coast USA

    60. Tiptoes on June 11th, 2005 3:59 am

      What altercation at the bar?

    61. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 3:59 am

i wasn’t mad that she was alive, my point was that i wish natalee’s story was the same. Jennifer, however, was more than inconsiderate. she went so far as to say she was abducted by a “Mexican” how very Georgia of her, and oh the pressure of a big wedding to a rich man…..people who can’t afford weddings, or even counselling and meds deal everyday! she scared her family and friends…….i am not wishing that she was dead…..i just wish she’d quit acting pitiful. She was arrested for shoplifting in her 20′s…..her family is rich! a classic case of an attention seeking!

    62. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 3:59 am

I’ve read so many stories about parents whose child was kidnapped and they won’t ever move because they are afraid if the child came home they wouldn’t be there. I can’t imagine that feeling, let alone having your child kidnapped in a foreign country. How could you ever leave without wondering “what if she is still there and I’ve just left her behind?”

    63. Duck from Dallas on June 11th, 2005 4:02 am

      fox on it now

    64. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:02 am

There are news stories that state the Joran kid got into a shoving match with some of Natalee’s friends the night she vanished.

    65. Bill on June 11th, 2005 4:02 am

Abraham Jones and Mickey John must be relesaed IMMEDIATLY!

    66. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 4:02 am

I was hoping that this was a runaway case and that she decided she couldn’t deal with the pressure of being a rich kid who has high expectations over their head (such as making sure they keep their full academic ride to college) and she just decided Aruba was a nice place to be…

Couldn’t that still be the case? Couldn’t the boys have been covering for the fact that she ran away, and that the place where they are leaving them to is like, her hide out or something?

Doubtful, I know – but… better than her having been murdered.

    67. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 4:03 am

Oh, don’t get me wrong, Jessi, I was upset too at how she handled that entire episode. But I am like you, I wish that more of these stories ended up like that. It’s like the few times my little boy has been playing outside and taken off without telling me where he’s going. I am frantic until I find him, then so happy to see him I can’t stand it…then he’s in so much trouble!!!!!

    68. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:04 am

I was wondering why her friends didn’t go with her with the guys? my friends and i always went in groups….especially 3 guys 1 girl

    69. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 4:05 am

I would bet there are a whole lot of regrets about letting her leave with these guys. A LOT!!

    70. Nate on June 11th, 2005 4:06 am

They were probably too drunk themselves to stop her…

    71. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:06 am

my little girl is 4 and i don’t even let her go too far ahead of me when we walk the dog! i think this crap is making me paranoid
but i don’t think paranoid exists anymore…..just reality

    72. Nate on June 11th, 2005 4:08 am

jessibobessy…that’s not being paranoid…that’s just good parenting…especially with all these sexual offenders out there…

    73. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 4:09 am

You’re right Jessi. My kids think I am SO over-protective and they hate it. But I am just realistic about the world we live in today.

    74. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:09 am

I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I get the idea that there were some very fishy circumstances in this case. Reminds me a lot of how our justice system worked 50 years ago.

Prominent white kid commits a crime, points a finger at some poor black people, and everyone bites.

Now these security guards had alibis, weren’t anywhere near the vicinity, and have absolutely zero criminal history. All interviews portrayed the guys as model citizens and extremely friendly. So where is this “sufficient evidence” they had to hold these guys? It seems like there is none.

I just get this feeling they tried to frame the two security guards. Joran’s father is a prominent figure in the community, and Aruba is small enough where that influence matters. The whole investigation has been incredibly odd from the start, and leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

The case didn’t seem too difficult. Three guys were the last people to see Natalee. They clearly lied about dropping her off, and their timelines were incredibly skewed. I think these guys should have been the ones that had the pressure on them from day 1. Instead, 2 innocent security guards were dragged in front of camera, out of their home and across every TV in the world. Their lives will never be the same.

My thoughts say that a cover-up was trying to be had. Perhaps the wealthy families had influence, or perhaps it was just easier to point fingers at a lower class citizen for the crim. Either way, the investigation was thoroughly flawed in my opinion, and the whole thing makes me sick.

    75. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:10 am

but usually, in my experience, when one guy in a group is “hooking up” they all want to…..why didn’t the other guys at least make out with her friends on the beach or something? it seems strange that those guys would want to just watch him get lucky. i smell a lot of rats…..

    76. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 4:11 am

Jim – the thing is in all countries aside from the US you are guilty until proven innocent, so if someone says “he did it” they take it seriously and as far as they care concerned – they really did do it… here, however, you are innocent until proven guilty and you could have committed a terrible crime but get to walk around for years before they find the evidence to prove it.

    77. Courtney on June 11th, 2005 4:13 am

Ok – for real… going to bed. I’m exhausted.

Aruba police official: Suspect confesses to killing missing teen
Saturday, June 11, 2005 Posted: 2:00 AM EDT (0600 GMT)

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (CNN) — One of three young suspects arrested Thursday in the investigation into the disappearance of an Alabama teenager has confessed to her murder, a senior police official said late Friday.

Police did not say which of the three confessed to the killing of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway.

    79. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:13 am

Before you blame friends of Natalees for letting her go, you have to realize that a lot of these guys are pros at this. I’ve been to some Caribbean Islands and see these guys work. They are aggressive, target the weak, and come across very trustworthy.

They could have gained her trust all week, and offered her a ride home. Maybe she was just taken by this guy and really trusted him.

Girls leave with guys from bars all the time. Is it safe? No. Do I blame friends for letting her go? No. Sometimes it is easy to look back and say “if I had only done this”. Unfortunately, when you’re drinking, having a good time, and out with friends, you don’t think straight.

    80. Nate on June 11th, 2005 4:13 am

      Good night Courtney…have a safe trip tomorrow…um..today

    81. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 4:15 am

I agree, Jim. I said earlier today on another forum that considering these security guards were well-known for trying to pick up on women at hotels and the position Jaron’s father holds, that the finger was pointed at them purposely. I don’t think that they were in a position to know that the contract for these guys at the hotel next to Natalee’s expired only days before her disappearance and so these guys were not even working with their “black uniforms” and “walkie-talkies” that night. In fact, I heard one of them had a pretty good allibi. That he had been at some sort of party that night or something. So, it was a good try on their part, but I think they weren’t totally prepared.

    82. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:15 am

I understand guilty until innocent, and that is how they work. I’d just suspect that the last 3 guys to see her alive, the same ones that lied about their story, would be the ones I’d consider guilty first.

    83. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 4:15 am

Fox just reported pretty much everything we already know. The DID NOT mention what CNN is reporting nor did they say it was true.

i agree jim. dragon and nate, i have a tan skinned blue eyed long blonde haired 4 yr old. a predators dream! and if she takes after me, which she does, she’ll be developed by the time she is 12! she is my first and as of now only child. looking at natalee is killing me. i’d die or go nuts if someone hurt her. i wish we could let our kids be as free as we could be when we were young. now 12 year olds are rapists, murderers! what can you do?

    86. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:20 am

Well I’d imagine Joran’s father will have a tough time becoming a judge now.

jessibobessy…what can you do? you may want to consider the “Noah,” plan…buy your own island and populate it from scratch!

    88. Doyle on June 11th, 2005 4:21 am

To the idiots who wanted to say “I posted first!” I only wish the HIV virus was limited to assholes like you. This young girl is most likely dead, but you want to make light of it. As a standup comedian, one who is accustomed to making fun of manu different events, I hope you fall on a knife.

I pray for Natalee and her family.

    89. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 4:23 am

I don’t think this should affect Jordan’s fathers Judgeship, should it?

The only thing it means is that his old man will not get this for his first case.

    90. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:23 am

i don’t blame her friends for leaving her. i think it is strange that the group of guy friends didn’t hook up with the group of girlfreinds….like” Hey, does she have a friend for me” kind of thing. i believe the altercation with friends thing, but her friend in fox the other night didnt mention it the other night

    91. Nate on June 11th, 2005 4:23 am

      Hey Doyle…get a life…who said I wasn’t praying for their family too?

    92. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:24 am

Well if this is how he raises his children, I’d probably pass on having him as a judge. This kid seemed to have issues long before this.

    93. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 4:25 am

I think if Joran is the guilty party here that it will affect his family’s entire life. Small island, hardly any crime, and this crime against an American? Not that it will ruin them, but I do believe it will hurt them a great deal on this island.

    94. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 4:25 am

Chill Doyle! Many want to be “first posters”

I agree it was out of line but wishing them harm is idiotic too!!

    95. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:25 am

      doyle, Bitter or what????

    96. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 4:26 am

Doyle, I think you were the only one who took offense to that and I’m not sure why.

    97. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:26 am

I’d also like to add to not be surprised if the Aruba officials turn this into an “accident”. Possibly say she was drunk and hit her head, or something like that.

Remember, they have a lot of tourism dollars at stake, and an accidental death saves them a lot of face here. It seems from the beginning that the Aruba Police have done everything in their power to mislead media and botch up the case. This confession has even been downgraded to “something bad happened”. I just see this turning into an “accident”.

    98. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:26 am

it wasnt out of line……we tranferred from somewhere else and he made it first…..big deal!

    99. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 4:27 am

Okay…now I’m really going to bed. Good night all!!! And I will be praying for her family just as I have every night since this happened.

    100. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:28 am

Well this kid could single handidly kill tourism to this country and hurt the economy. That family will be the most hated name in Aruba.

    101. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:28 am

i agree jim how often does the pm come out to talk about a missing person? people are missing every day!

      Goodnight Dragonfly!

    103. Hiawassee on June 11th, 2005 4:29 am

dragonfly — Joran’s family will have to leave Aruba — I can’t conceive of how they could stay there. Out to some other Dutch territory or to the Netherlands itself.

    104. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 4:29 am

I don’t think this could be covered up using the “accident” excuse. Remember the U.S. F.B.I. is there and they will not let this be covered up. This was an isolated incident and I hope it doesn’t affect the country’s tourism for too long.

    105. Nate on June 11th, 2005 4:31 am

If someone would buy me a plane ticket to Aruba…I would go..I’m sure it’s beautiful down there…there is a lot more violence up here than down there I’m sure…

    106. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:32 am

Cover ups happen and just because the FBI is there, doesn’t mean they’ll be able to have any say in the trial. I hope they have the autopsy done by someone from the states to get real answers. Aruba has been covering for these kids too long.

    107. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 4:33 am

In my opinion it was out of line. This is a forum to discuss a very serious matter and not a contest to be a “first post” I could have been fist but I did not think such a trival thing should take place on this board. I do not wish anyone harm for typing “first post” but It’s not my style.

    108. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:34 am

    110. Cyber Object on June 11th, 2005 4:38 am

I don’t really see how this could be accidental in the sense that the 3 boys tried to cover it up and shift the blame.

    111. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 4:39 am

cyber, doyle……This is my first time doing the whole “blog” thing and it seems like, with a few exceptions, people come here to pick fights….who cares about a single comment made over an hour ago? let it go! i just wanted the latest on natalee….now i’ll leave you to be “right’ all night long! good night!

If i got a chance to go again I’d be there in a heartbeat.

    116. Doyle on June 11th, 2005 4:43 am

I only took offense because it made her life seem so trivial. I do realize it was not the intent of those porters, but in this day and age you can’t be too careful.

I haven’t seen it on this particular site, but I’ve seen it on others. (Because I do think the vast majority of people on this site have a good amount of caring and hope).

I’ve seen people basically say Natalee deserved what she got because she was drunk.

I have a problem with that:

      (1) While it maybe be likely, if she is found living (hopefully) or dead, it is a professional’s job to determine the level of intoxication. Not rumor or hearsay.

      (2) Most of us have have been drunk before. Most of us have done stupid things while drunk. I personally, and many CAN empathize with this, have done things while drunk that the next day we were like “Thank God I’m ok!”

I truly hope she is ok, and I doubt that anyone following this story at this hour disagrees with that.

Sorry to ruffle feathers in my first post/comment.

      PS I have a life.

    117. Jim on June 11th, 2005 4:43 am

I don’t think it was an accident either. However, an accident looks a lot better for tourism than a murder. Aruba has a lot of money to lose by making this a murder.

Either way, I have little to no faith in the Aruba Law Enforcement. 12 days to figure out something most people probably could have told you within a few hours?

    118. Nate on June 11th, 2005 4:44 am

My lovely Jamaica born and raised, now a US citizen, wife pretty much called this one the minute she saw that poor former security guard’s picture where he’s getting arrested. Someone else suggested early that it was a “Some Dude” defense proffered by the three other “witnesses”, one of whom happened to be white.

That should be the biggest shame for Aruba to contemplate. Abraham Jones and Mickey John must be released, and toot sweet! What if it were you, or one of your family or friends arrested for “suspicion”? It’s bad, the way this case has been handled.

Police commissioner Jan van der Straaten said on or about 6/3/2005, “after four or five days you are afraid a crime has been committed.” Do ya think? That person should resign, however this turns out. And if this confession comes about as true, then perhaps a few more slow moving officials should consider turning in their resignations, as well.

Ina any event, those two poor fingered security guards ought to be released right now!

I agree. Those guards should be released ASAP. Being completely innocent & incarcerated for days is a terrible terrible thing. And also a racist thing, actually. I feel like Jolen Van der Whatever saying “black man in a uniform” was as bad as people here always pinning it on a black person when they actually did something bad themselves…

    180. Bill on June 11th, 2005 5:32 am

It’s being reported on television this very moment, even. So CNN is not backing off the story. What the details are, who knows?

    181. jessibobessy on June 11th, 2005 5:35 am

fox is reporting something different from cnn right now on the ticker…….??

    182. Bill on June 11th, 2005 5:41 am

I think FOX is reporting based on family reaction. Denial, isn’t that the first stage of grief? I’m sorry, but it’s probably a stage we’re all in. I would be there too, but for the “Aruba police official” header on CNN.

Unfortunately, we now have the weekend news crew, the “B” team, to get this straight. We may have to wait for quite awhile before we get the real news right,

Big fan of Aruba here; lawyer, too, so this case has been at turns both fascinating and sickening. This whole situation is a shame; the family and the island deserve better….although overnight indicators are pointing the wrong way, I guess….
FYI, this blog (meaning “y’all”) and Riehl have been great and better than the “big” media. However, one CNN talking head has been harping on a question that I’d love to hear about from the locals (localgirl, friend of…) — we get that Aruba Justice is set up on a model that is, in ways, markedly dif. from US., and can see possible merit of tactic of letting 1 or more of the 3 go and surveilling him/them…but WHAT could possibly justify not siezing the Honda (and all that forensic evid.) right at the begining? Just don’t get that part of the investigation…Help, please….p.s. Natalee’s family: Everyone stateside is with you. p.p.s hang in there Arubans, this too shall pass.

    189. friend of mickey john on June 11th, 2005 7:03 am

      ann-
Aruba didn’t initially know that the holloways knew people in power….or thought joran
family had local immunity in some way. Looking the other way gave the 3 kids time to at least get their stories straight-I’m sure they are convincing liars… Arubas people have given their hearts in whole to this… the mep (aua govt)did not from day 1 2 or 3… Letting the honda be ignored makes it unreliable as evidence, really, after a week or more and so much mis-info all along.
      Unreal.

    191. Bill on June 11th, 2005 7:16 am

I do have a suggestion for Aruba’s authorities that’s positive, I think. If Aruba is set up to be so dependant on tourism, and such a large portion of tourism is from the U.S., why not establish a kind of task force / mod squad to head off this sort of problem? I might not be calling it the right thing (task force). A kind of dedicated police squad to blend in but zoom in on such occurrences, so as not to inspire statements like, “After four or five days you are afraid a crime has been committed.”

Considering the small size of the island, this elite police squad would be there to mingle, know who is who, and stay in the background, but be empowered to head off such problems as you are experiencing now. And that elite group would not have to be very large at all. Just like Carlos & Charlies, et al, has bouncers, these folks would be like Aruba’s tourist guard, more or less.

Let’s face it, the airlines and cruise ships bring in a new batch of tourists just about every week. But who really knows the local “scene” longer term? And you’d want to be discreet about it, right?

Just a suggestion, for what it’s worth.

    192. Bill on June 11th, 2005 7:20 am

By the way, the elite squad could go to the resorts and give the “Officer Bittenbinder” talk during the day, so you won’t have to rely on American schools to do it.

Morning Tom or Red. Just a note:

You have on you website a big picture of Natalee with the words “God bless her Soul”.
Until nothing is confirmed, which the local news are stating this morning that last night was just a crazy night with false news and that there is nothing new as yet. The head authority official has asked Asociated Press to Rectificate their news and they have done this.

So until then, let’s not state her as deceased yet until it’s confirmed and true. Hope you understand what I mean.

    202. Bill on June 11th, 2005 7:38 am

friend of mickey, I wasn’t volunteering myself or anything. Just making a suggestion I thought might be useful. Though the whole hair braiding thing does sound kinda fun. You don’t think people would think I was a sissy, though, do you?

Okay, I have 5 hours of sleep. Just FYI.

Latest info: There is NONE. NOTHING. Everybody on the radio is playing (normal) music, the local tv stations are playing their American affiliates (CNN and NBC), it’s all quiet.

You know what I’d really really really like to know from Jim? Why are you so ready to believe that there will be a cover-up? I don’t think that the sentence will match what they would have gotten in the States, true, but I can assure that it’s not as if they’re going to forget this whole thing happened and give the guys community service.

Also, about van der Sloot’s father. From what I understand, he is a jurist / lawyer at the Dutch – Aruban – Netherlands Antilles Liaisons office. (KABNAA). He tried to be a judge, but didn’t make the cut.

Promise to update as soon as something happens.

    219. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 8:42 am

HEadlines on local newspapers this morning (translatation mine): AP and CNN hit the false alarm: Police deny that there has been a confession.

See, I told everyone what the outcome would be. You all jumped all over me.

Finally, 1 of the unks arrested said “Something bad did happen to her (Natalee).” Told you all she was probably dead and sexually assualted.

The drunken state of this Alabama chick got her in trouble.

    227. Bill on June 11th, 2005 9:28 am

Deputy, I acknowledge you were right, after all:

      Former Sheriff’s Deputy Says:

      June 8th, 2005 at 7:52 pm
I believe that Natalee is dead. The more I read, the more I blame the parents for sending their 18-year old to booze it up in Aruba. What happened to Natalee is what happens WHEN DADDY HAS TOO MUCH MONEY. I was on a plane today and a number of us spoke (men and women) about the situation. Without exception, all 5 of us thought that the problem started when Mom and Dad sent Natalee on a drinking excursion to celebrate her graduation. They parents should be up on charges!

Also, where were these 7 chaperons? Probably boozing it up too.

Where were the 100-odd fellow partiers — not a one could recognize that Natalee was heading for diaster?

This is a sad, sad situation with blame landing right at the feet of he rich parents.

I hope they learned a good lesson! I’d love to debate them on their decision.

      Deputy

    228. Chris Lupu on June 11th, 2005 9:40 am

      Update.

Yahoo reports that a 6th man in his 20’2 has just been arrested.

This thing’s got more twists and turns than a bow legged catterpillar

    229. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 9:40 am

The newspaper was Bon Dia Aruba (www.bondia.com), and it says “. . . However, sources of Bon Dia Aruba confirmed that none [referring to a confession being made] of this is true and that very probably authorities are going to take steps against the two media outlets. Already Commisionary Dompig assured that he was going to ask for AP to rectify their story and from what he could understand, AP agreed to do so.”

At this point, I just want it to be over.

    230. Tom on June 11th, 2005 9:42 am

According to TOP FM 95 the news brought by CNN is completly false. Makes me wonder what the intentions of CNN is with spreading false rumours.

If I am not mistaken, there will be a press conference at 04:00 o’clock PM arubian time. Hope some local from Aruba can verify that for me.

You can acces different radio from Aruba through http://www.arubadag.com you will need RealPlayer though.

      yes they do.

    248. Jane Doe on June 11th, 2005 10:04 am

This is what happened last night! After many days of high emotion and frustration, a break came in the case of the missing Natalee. When that happened, a source at the police station told a reporter what happened. It was most likely the truth… BUT, that source didn’t have the right to “tell”. So, the officials said what was told was a lie…

They had to do that. Since they don’t want us to know what they know, yet, they had to say that the report was a lie or untrue.

I believe it is true (instinct tells me that). The Aruban authorites are not used to having this much press around, they are not used to such a high profile case. The source slipped up and said something he/she souldn’t have. That doesn’t make what he/she said WRONG, it just makes it release before the authorities wanted it released.

I’m sure time will show that the original statement released prematurely is correct.

    249. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 10:06 am

msnbc being very cautious in what it says. Nothing new so far.

    253. Teo on June 11th, 2005 10:10 am

Police Official said that the news was not correct, and pleaded trough TOP FM to give their investigation team a chance to work on the case.

According to Police Oficial Mr. Jan van de Straten this kind of false news is ruining their investigation.

The official Press conference has not yet started as far as I can hear.

Sorry guys… just stay tuned, you never know…

    298. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 10:48 am

That’s it?!!! I wish I had gone to bed early last night and not heard a thing about any “confession” or anything. I would have had much more sleep and been none the wiser.

    299. Jane Doe on June 11th, 2005 10:53 am

Apparently news conferences said they will neither confirm or deny reports made last night about a “confession”. Also, a person arrested this morning has nothing to do with the Natalee case. More as I hear it….

    300. Tom on June 11th, 2005 10:54 am

      thanks Jane

    301. Chris Lupu on June 11th, 2005 10:54 am

Reports that blood has been found in the gray civic and the holloways took blood tests yesterday. Results were expected to be disclosed at the 10 AM PC this morning but was not mentioned

      Reported by Amy Kapel’s site
      http://spaces.msn.com/members/amykappel/

    302. Jane Doe on June 11th, 2005 10:54 am

Apparently, their idea of a news conference is much different than ours! :)

    303. Gabriel Leo on June 11th, 2005 10:54 am

Thnx Tom and/or Red for removing the words under the picture of Natalee which said:” May God rest her Soul”.

Until nothing is confirmed, let’s not get ahead of our self. thnx ;)

    304. Tom on June 11th, 2005 10:59 am

You were right,,, 3-4 AM last night blurred things and we fired our editor. :)

    310. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 11:17 am

Can we infer from this that the two men who were arrested first are innocent?

    311. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:20 am

Ronald, they will let them go any time now from what I hear….

    312. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 11:20 am

I don’t know all the facts, but I got very bad vibes from this van der sloot kid from the first time that I set eyes upon his web site. What was posted there was alarming. He seems like a chiched archetype. While I don’t know the kid, I know his type, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he had a role in what happened.

    313. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:21 am

Jairo, thried to go to the yahoo chat

      //groups.yahoo.com/group/nataleeholloway

      pls let know

Tom, do you need any help w/ maintining the blog?

    315. googler on June 11th, 2005 11:24 am

      Native,
The room looks empty because it is not letting you in since it is full

    316. Tom on June 11th, 2005 11:25 am

      Chris

We have control now, but thanks for the offer. Red just got out of the shower.

Fox Televsion said the confession is true.

    317. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:26 am

      That’s what I thought…thanks googler

    318. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 11:28 am

If it turns out that this van der sloot kid is involved, it will be very interesting to see what kinf of treatment he receives in the Aruban judicial system, seeing as how his father is a judge. Aruba is a very small country, and there can’t be any serious doubt that all of the judges know one another or, at least, know “of” one another.

On the one hand, his identity as a judge’s son would militate against a harsh sentence, but, on the other hand, if he were given anything less than a severe punishment, the Aruban government would appear “soft” on crime, and the country would lose crucial American tourist dollars.

    319. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:28 am

Yesterday someone posted a link for a newspaper article about a fight between the 3 boys and some of Natalee’s friends…..does anybodt know what link I’m taliking about and where to find it??

      Tom? Red?

    320. Chris Lupu on June 11th, 2005 11:28 am

Good to hear Red’s back…..if you ever need to sleep sometime , I’d be glad to mod for a bit

    321. Leila on June 11th, 2005 11:29 am

So my guess, CNN is right but shey shoot before they had clearance. Aruba law is different, cause all info/ investigation has to be “complete”, which is not the case. Maybe they have confession, but not the body.

Also Prime Minister of aua, upset with CNN for not retracting Story

All are blaming “leak”, but local radio now is considering the ‘confession’ news as valid!

Helicopter is still flying around my house, suppose still busy with recover

    322. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:31 am

Ronald, He is not a “Judge”….YET and I don’t think he will ever be appointed after this….

Maximum sentence is 20 to life…

    323. Tom on June 11th, 2005 11:31 am

    327. Leila on June 11th, 2005 11:33 am

Many high profile people have children gone wrong, wont affect appointment necessarily

    328. VestaviaGirl on June 11th, 2005 11:33 am

NativeLingo keep trying to get in the yahoo chat. I know a lot of us would love to hear from you.

According to my research, Dutch gives 15 Yrs for premed murder, 12 yrs otherwise.

    330. Leila on June 11th, 2005 11:36 am

Father works for KABNAA, not working in courthouse as a judge

    331. Chris Lupu on June 11th, 2005 11:36 am

      I’m in the yahoo chat

very busy and lots of info, but nothing new or ground breaking yet

lot of locals of both AUA and MB in the room

    332. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 11:37 am

The hardest thing with any story is getting the facts right. It seems that, in every story, all sorts of incorrect information comes out during the fledgling stages of the investigation. Every news source that I have consulted has said that the kid’s father is a judge. Now I’m hearing that he’s not. What’s going on?

    333. Leila on June 11th, 2005 11:37 am

Most definately we don’t have death penalty

    334. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:38 am

      Thanks Tom….

Hello, V-Girl…. been trying for days…. didn’t even know you guys were in there…

    335. Leila on June 11th, 2005 11:40 am

Father is an attorney, studying for judge which takes 8 years, long road . Father seems to be a very nice guy, soft spoken, very friedly and liked by locals. Son is somethng els of course

    336. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:42 am

Leila, I agree, but looking at the MAGNITUDE and far-reaching implications of this case, I think it will affect the father…..

    337. Jane Doe on June 11th, 2005 11:42 am

Another chat room open on MSN

      http://groups.msn.com/FindNatalee/chat.msnw

For those with netpassport addresses (hotmail, msn, etc) or you can register for free. The yahoo chat room remains very full and people get dumped out… overflow can use the msn chat

    338. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 11:42 am

Well, Aruba has a serious problem on its hands because the American travelling public is not going to be satisfied that justice was done if this kid gets a slap on the wrist.

If it comes out that he killed her, he has to be tried as an adult, and he has to do 25 to life. Anything less and the Aruban government will be perceived as soft, and the countr will lose tens of millions of American tourist money.

    339. 10ksnooker on June 11th, 2005 11:43 am

It’s odd that all these ‘advanced socities’ don’t have the death penality — except for the victim.

Sort of like lefties worshiping the owners of the real gulags and abhorring the US.

    340. Chris Lupu on June 11th, 2005 11:45 am

      Time for chapter IX ?

    341. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 11:46 am

Could this kid be tried as an adult in Aruba?

    342. Leila on June 11th, 2005 11:48 am

Probably could be tried, not common in our system. His msn site said he 1.92 mtr long. Tall guy for 17 old

    343. diddy on June 11th, 2005 11:48 am

Hmm… something a little strange about equating “advanced societies” with the death penalty.

    344. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:49 am

Ronald, under Dutch law, anyone over 16 is treated as an adult.
Believe me, it won’t be a salp on the wrist……
If found guilty, we arubans will see to it that he gets the maximum…….

Think of this….even if it’s 20 years, it will be a good looking boy…..20 years….in prison….. do I need to say more????

    345. Nate on June 11th, 2005 11:49 am

diddy..I’m going to have to agree with you on that one…

    346. VirginiaDA on June 11th, 2005 11:51 am

Does the Aruba legal system have trials by jury, by judge or both? Certainly, when a system has trial by jury is when there is more concern about pretrial publicity, true or untrue, and its effect on the jury pool. With judge trials, there is an assumption that a well trained jurist can put that aside.

    347. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 11:53 am

No Jury…..trial is by judge, my guess is that it won’t only be one judge in this case…….

    348. Tom on June 11th, 2005 11:56 am
