Update: It also may be the computer from the other boys house. There is some conflict out there over this fact

UPDATE 2 – Suspects Named

The Dutch suspect, Joran Andreas Petrus Van Der Sloot, a student at Aruba International School, came out of his upper-class home in the northern Montana neighborhood of Oranjestad on Thursday with his head covered in a blue-and-green towel.

Van Der Sloot’s father is a prominent official in the Aruban justice system studying to be a judge. The younger Van Der Sloot, born Aug. 6, 1987, may have been romantically involved with the 18-year-old Holloway the night she disappeared, May 30.

The Surinamese brothers in custody are Satish Kalpoe, born July 30, 1986, and Deepak Kalpoe, born Oct. 6, 1983. They are the sons of a local Aruban business man.

Aruba Attorney General Caren Janssen (search) said the three were arrested at 6 a.m. She refused to say whether they were connected to the two men already being detained in the disappearance, saying more information would be released later Thursday.

This gives me some peace knowing the investigators are being thorough. Let’s home they ‘leave no stones unturned’, or in this case, ‘leave no pc unconfigurated’.

      Prayers for Natalee.

“Police also impounded a gray Honda car. Holloway’s friends reported seeing her leave a nightclub in a silver car the night she disappeared.”

This poor little Island is taking all the blame for whatever jerk that has something to do wiht this…why is this turning on the island??

    5. Tom on June 9th, 2005 1:51 pm

I think that Aruba is caught in between a rock and a hard place . They have a judicial system that is different from ours but at first glance looks like the government is holding back. And the media is reinforcing it with the training they have to dig harder when rebuffed.

And to be honest , I do not know if there is a good answer for Aruba. I would love someone to confess, Natalee to walk out of a neighborhood, anything but letting it draw out like it is.

For as long as this is drawing out, Aruba will be hurt in a multiple.

I am truly sorry AmericaninAruba, I really am.

    6. Tom on June 9th, 2005 1:53 pm

I think they took down Van Der Sloot’s profile.

    7. SweetPea on June 9th, 2005 2:16 pm

What we need is some forensic evidence.

    8. Jacob on June 9th, 2005 2:29 pm

What we need is the Death Penalty in Aruba, you tell this little Van Sloot boy that he is facing the death penalty, and I’ll bet his mouth will move a mile a minute then trying to cooperate. No more playing tiddly-wink games with the little Dutch boy, FBI needs to level some serious charges against this punk. We need a lot more heads to roll in Aruba though, I am still sitting here patiently awaiting charges to be brought against management of the Carlos N Charlie’s restaurant for allowing young women to expose themselves and drink so heavily in their establishment.

A victim is not at fault, but SHE VOLENTARY left with 3 man ALONE. She was going to have one hell of a good time the american way. When these type of girls come partying to Aruba we all know they come to PARTY ALL OUT.

I knew it ! Fucking Judge boy and his little Suriname friends..

They took her to Arashi ( the beach near the lighthouse)
then gangbang gone wrong… drugged nathalee went for a dip in the ocean..
not to be found… maybe she fell and drowned.. the 3 little fukkers got scared freaked .. making up a story to pretend they dropped her off at the hotel..

then there was suddenly a guy with a black t shirt and hood.. mmm weird.. no record of them dropping her off at the hotel..no record of a guy in a black shirt either..

then they are going to look for two guys that might have something to do with this..
WRONG! the rich dutch fucking kid has some influence on all this.. dady is covering his ass aswell … what a disfunctional family!

here is the little judge boy passed out… what an example for our future judge.

It’s amazing to me that the news folks here in the US have not been tougher on the handling of this case. That may change as this new winkle developes.

Is it true that the FBI has just today began interviews in Mountain Brook?

They should start interviews in ALabama because what type of freinds jsut LEAVE this whole case? And it can well be one of them why not?? They reported her missing like 2 hours before they boarded the plane!Just in time to fly away to the safety of home! Were bashing the island when we dont even know what hapened….what if the responsibles are in Alabama atthis moment??

    16. phil on June 9th, 2005 3:09 pm

      AmericaninAruba

This has troubled me…why was her roomate and traveling companions not alarm sooner? Why did no one stop her from getting in the car the night before?

Because this was not usually behavior…she told them at C&C she was going with these guys and in the morning they thought she spent the night with one and would be there for the flight.

Until that point there was not cause for alarm either at C&C’s or at the Hotel in the morning.

    17. CeeCee on June 9th, 2005 3:09 pm

      AmericaninAruba,
I really dont hear anyone bashing Aruba but you. Why dont you lay off?
This was a terrible unfortunate event. I have been to Aruba twice.
If I had the opportunity to be there right now I would.
Take a deep Arubian breath and relax!
No unfortunate accident or event could take away its beauty.

    18. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 3:11 pm

CeeCee thank you for that…I dont mean anyone here bashing aruba…im talking about hte news channel like the Oreilly guy on Fox NEws that guy has some nerve! hes even saying that the island is a main place in the caribbean for Drug and Prostitution trade! what is that? I am really sad to have this happen to this beutiful place!

    19. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 3:13 pm

Its even confirmed that people have canceld flights to Aruba…they said they knew this was going to affect us but not so soon…what Im afraid of is the cancelation of all tourists…remmebr this is what this island lives from, including me in the hotel sector this is horrible for us and the economy..i mean this is a sad sad thing lets pray she is found ALIVE and well!

    20. phil on June 9th, 2005 3:14 pm

Do not worry Americans are not going to be swayed by Bill O’Reilly…more than half hate Fox anyhow…

If the Aruba can just botton this case up (not cover up)…it would be over.

    21. CeeCee on June 9th, 2005 3:15 pm

I know I have heard your and others report on it. Realize that most people in America have not watched not just this show or myself who does not even know who he is! This is not on the minds of lots of people so not to worry about senstionalism.
Dont work yourself up so much on Fox News! It will be OK! We are hoping and praying for Natalee’s safe return and for healing on Aruba.
I am also very saddened that I have to see pictures of Aruba in this light.
I think that this would be shocking to many Americans as this is a very popular island for being so beautiful.

    22. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 3:21 pm

Yes this is a beautiful and safe island…safety is the #1 reason I moved here, I could have stayed in Florida and done the same job! I just hope that everyone is praying for her safe return becuase the Aruban people are very very concerened not aonly about their image but definitely about this girls mysterious disappearance! The gov’t even gave a half day off to all gov’t employees to go on a search! In florida no one would have even lifted a finger outside the district police office! I love The US and go more than 3x a year its my home…..but Aruba is my 2nd home I love it! How do we know she hasnt contacted peole here before the trip? What is it about those chaperones?only 7 for 140 kids?? I cant even handle my girls and 4 freinds i go nuts! imagine having 20 high school graduates….legally drinking and partying! its complete caos! the plannign of this triop was very bad! and who is this girl anyways to get so much attention??

    23. Tom on June 9th, 2005 3:22 pm

Looks like things will quiet down now. Some people are given the afternoon off and we may have more joining them, but the discourse should be much calmer.

(Yes, I fixed the banning module)

      Tom

    24. eecindy on June 9th, 2005 3:25 pm

Aruba is beautiful island. All islands in Caribbean are beautiful. This is not about islands. Everywhere has crime, murder and rape. It is about people who do evil things to other people. Don’t be so defensive about your island. It will survive. Let us pray for Natalee who is stil missing. Your pocketbook is not as important as the life of this woman and the trauma to her family

    25. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 3:27 pm

We are all concerned about Natalee, what you need to understand is that ofcourse their is going to be concern about the economy when all we live from is tourism…and if that is such a bad thing for us to worry about our economy then the news channels shouldnt bash our island when Natalee is the problem THEY should stick to the story…believe me my pocket is secure here or in FLorida…I have the privelage to move back…many Arubans dont have that they go down with it

    26. Quart Knee on June 9th, 2005 3:28 pm

      Did you ban Kortnie?
She needs a team of therapists.
My apologies for egging her on, but she needed to go.
      More to come.

    27. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 3:30 pm

I jsut dont understand this anymore…so many posibilities….can I get an honest opinion: do you think she is dead or alive? And if alive do you think this was planned? Beucase there are rumors here that shes pulled this stunt before of “disappearing” and also they say that the family is involved with the FBI and the father was threatened once that tey would kidnap his kids….what is true I dont know….any comments??

    28. CeeCee on June 9th, 2005 3:30 pm

      AmerinArub –
Natalee is getting no more attention than I seriously believe that they would give to me if it were my own daughter. They are not related to anyone in the government or the likes as far as I am concerned, the mother asked for the US assistance and got it.
C&C has is problems but all the resorts of this type had better open up its eyes and see what can happen when you let the drinking get out of control. I was never a believer of New Orleans Mardi Gras or the Spring Breaks ANYWHERE. Its just plain disgusting. When I was in C&C’s back in Nov they brought the girls up to the stage and played drinking games. As a mother I was worried about them. The establishments must be held responsible for the safety of its patrons. I mean ALL establishments not just C&Cs.
When ANYbody begins to drink alcohol it can effect everybody differently. If at 18 you arent familiar with drinking, I dont believe starting on a strange island is the place to begin. I of course am insinuating that about Natalee and that isnt fair.
There really isnt any point to this website but to throw insinuations out there.

true. But as a parent also I wouldnt let my children go on such trips…if my daughter ever comes up to me and asks me to go on spriung break to Cancun I would say ABSOLUTELY NOT! shes not even allowed to go clubbing here and shes 17 I cant imagine her in another country! NO way!

    33. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 3:38 pm

I understand I would definitely want the same attention she is getting…but how did her mother become so privelaged to get the FBI invloved after only a couple of hours of her disappearance>?We could hardly get police officers to help us in the US! imagine this lady in Aruba with the FBI! I mean its great that shes getting all this help I applaud it….but miserable little me would never get that attention!Look at the Amy BRadly that was lost at sea by Curacao…no one helped them! i mean come on this loks really strange, this family must have “something” to get all this attentnion

Another woman in Boston reported to her local news….

“On my last night there, I decided to go out on a date with him. I thought it would just be a friendly, harmless affair, and it turned out to be a disaster,” she said. “He took me to the local bar in Aruba, Carlos and Charlie’s. He bought me drinks, and after we left the bar, he proceeded to take me to a parking lot where he assaulted me.”

      http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/4581188/detail.html

I am reading the tripadvisor/aruba boards and everyone that has been to Aruba and been to Carlos & Charlie’s has said what a shady place it is and how local men were extremely agressive and pushy interested in young girls. Sounds like this Carlos and Charlie’s place is notorious for this type of behavior and worse.

Booze, helping man-haters like Kortnie ‘get some’ since the dark ages!
In all seriousness, the desire of the island of Aruba to ‘smile and greet the tourists’ in fear of jeopardizing the economy has caused a loss of evidence, time, and manpower.
When Amy Bradley was taken, her parents were unsuccessful in getting the captain to delay the deboarding.
A small announcement about her disappearance was made about 1 hour after docking.
      Thanks for the help, C&Cs!
Thanks for the help, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
Thanks for the help, Aruba Mounted Police, or whatever they call themselves.
Those kids were probably eating the evidence mixed up in Jerk Pork by the time the cops got to them.

      Take off your blinders, please!

    61. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 4:28 pm

yes she was at the C&C and so were most of the other tourists C&C is on the cruise ship dock its the 1st place you can get to when you disembark the ship…she was invited their by a crew member of the ship…..how do we know this wasnt something form the Cruise employee? most of the crew members go there because its the only “american type” bar…..this is a bar from the Senor Sanchoz group of Cancun Mexico…thsi chain lives of american tourists all over the caribbean

    62. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 4:30 pm

I still believe the bar has nothing to do with it….if were going to blame the bar..then let me tell you I can give you a list of restaurants and bars in Key west that should be shut down immediately!

    63. AmericaninAruba on June 9th, 2005 4:34 pm

this can even be a comlete conspiracy from the US…did any one see larry king last night? wasnt that Governor wierd wiht his answers? How do we know that this is not a “play” for the US to put spy equipment for Venezuela?I mean we have been having problems with Venezuela correct?I mean last night NO ONE ont he island that had cable could watch this interview, 80% of the island was without electricity….and when the time of the whole island went on a search…the FBI had restricted areas where they ALONE could go to? HAve we even thought about that?Who knows with so many thigns happenign today this can also be an option

OK, I just have to reply to your statment, AmericaninAruba: “How do we know that this is not a “play” for the US to put spy equipment for Venezuela?”

COME ON! Have you seen her mother? Are you a parent, yourself? Her mother is absolutely distraught, as any parent would be, in a situation like this. The US government may do some things that we don’t all agree with or know about, but putting a teen ager in harm’s way is not one of them.

Sorry, I hope I don’t come across as rude, because that isn’t my intention. I hold out very high hopes that Natalee Holloway is alive, and she and her family are in my prayers.

    67. eecindy on June 9th, 2005 5:44 pm

Fox has finally posted pictures on live broadcast at 5:43pm. All three of the young men together. It is about these young men and Natalee, not the Island, the Bar or the drinking, clothing or anything else. Pray that she is found alive!

    68. angel23 on June 9th, 2005 5:58 pm

Where is here father in this story anyway? Strange he didn’t get in the picture yet. My strong feelings is being a child raised in a broken family maybe never got over it. She is hiding out there for some reason. Let let it look like kidnap but got out of hand and can’t do anything but hide now. What is truthabout rumors going on she was a drug/alcohol abuser in rehab?

      Hopefully soon she appears again

    69. rtriangle on June 9th, 2005 7:25 pm

      AmericaninAruba,

Frankly you’ve got some issues. Stop making excuses for Aruba or the bar. It is very evident that the illicit drug trade and vice in Aruba are problems. It is highly probable that the former played a roll in the Holloway case. Stop trying to blame everyone and everything else… including the victim! You don’t know why she left the bar. She may have been drugged.

Secondly, Aruba may not be a violent as Compton California but people don’t go to the Compton for vacation. I applaud the action of the Aruban people but their is no justification in deflecting attention from Aruba’s problem by suggesting that a person shouldn’t go to a bar, wearing skimpy clothes and drinking lots of alcohol if they want to avoid violence or criminal behavior. If Aruba wants tourist dollars, women shouldn’t have to be afraid of having fun because they might be kidnapped and gang-raped by predatory hoodlums.

Indeed… both Aruba and the bar are responsible for what happened to Holloway as much or more than her parents and her school friends.

I am very happy they arrested that young Dutch punk because he obviously is a part of or knows what happened to Holloway.

    70. Lucas on June 9th, 2005 7:55 pm

Carlito – out of control but maybe you are right?

Can someone tell me about the rumor, here on the island of Aruba, and maybe in the states as well, that the distraught Mom has info she is not willing to share that Natalee has disappeared on past vacations in other countries, one time up to 5 days ? A local paper here asked that exact question to the parents directly and they would not respond. odd.

Do you think it is strange they do not answer? From day 1 this is strange, her mother came with FBI immediatly which is not a normal procedure but till after 48hours missing. Where is her father?? Is she with him?? Has he something to do with this? Is Natalee self an addict? Ask these question before accusing anybody else. THIS CASE SMELLLSSSSSSSSSSS

If Natalee had done this before and now again than the family or US government should appologize wordwide for letting people go through thissh….. and pay all the bills involved.

    74. KinTX on June 10th, 2005 11:06 am

Have you ever thought, Angel, that possibly Natalee’s father is deceased? Her mother’s name is Beth Holloway Twitty. Typically, when one gets divorced, they don’t retain their married name, yet she keeps it as her middle name.

And where are you getting this information, that Natalee has run away before and done drugs? I hardly think that a young girl on FULL academic scholarship has a lot of time for drugs and running away.

    75. cancon on June 10th, 2005 11:49 am

just my thoughts – first of all I think what happened was the three party guys purposely turned the focus on the security guards, and I suspect the security guards will be set free shortly, now Aruba is a small place so I imagine the cops may even know all the suspects well and the suspects all know each other – my guess is the party boys knew these security guards were known for trying to pick up girls at hotels so they turned the heat on them , knowing the Aruban police would find it plausible, and the Aruban police may have given these boys the benefit of the doubt, not just because the one kid was a judge’s son, they may in fact know all these boys very well and couldn’t fathom that they would do this kind of thing

now either their stories didn’t check out or it was the pressure from the media and the security guard’s lawyers, that finally got these boys put into custody – the problem of course is that in 10 days one can make evidence disappear, of course if you sent in the CSI team with Gil Grissom, LOL, they still be able to find evidence 10 days later

I do find it silly that people would cancel their plans to go to Aruba because of this one incident, what going to go to Jamaica instead? it is the same silliness when people stopped flying after 9-11 – the law of statistics and probabilities still say you have more danger getting killed driving to an airport and the same stats says your daughter is more likely to be raped on a college campus, no matter how Ivy League it looks….or certainly you got a better chance of being raped and killed in Florida if the news from the last year is any indication, but you don’t see tourism to Florida abating

now I might understand Jacob’s unhappiness with this bar to some extent- my sister has been to Aruba several times, I’ve been once and I will go again, regardless of this incident, the bottomline is you keep an eye on your drink at all times and don’t get into a car with 3 guys, without at least 3 girls, this rule applies in Canada, the US as well as anywhere in the Caribbean if you are female…..

however on her last trip, my sister befriended a Dutchman who worked at her hotel, now he was a perfect gentlemen – just that he was the water sports guy and drug dealer for that beach and she saw a seamier side of Aruba hanging around with this guy, it was also Carnavale weekend so the island was nuts, a lot of Columbians and Venezualans on the island and she found those men to be very aggressive……now she is not a naive person but she was taken aback by the amount of drugs flowing around everywhere…….it changed her perception of quaint little Aruba somewhat but she is still planning to go back, we were planning to in April but we thought the prices were still too high, we were looking for a deal……..

    76. cancon on June 10th, 2005 11:55 am

rtriangle, the Compton comparison is laughable, have you ever been to Aruba? clearly not, it’s not even close.

Try any small town in the US as a better comparison just add nice beaches, because drugs flow there too, in fact in Canada, a lot of rural kids are more likely to do drugs out of boredom, than kids in urban areas that have more choices for recreation and activities and a small island isn’t much different than a small town.

now Aruba’s proximity to South America doesn’t help the drug situation but let’s talk turkey, this drug dealer working at this hotel was catering to the tourists not the locals…..and they were keeping him very busy……..

    77. MtnBrkGrad on June 10th, 2005 11:58 am

WOIMB, I am a Mtn Brk Grad as well and I appreciate your efforts to rectify the misconceptions posters have re MB, Natalee’s family, the chaparones, etc. For everyone I would just like to expand on WOIMB’s posts. I graduated from MB about 7 years ago, and was allowed to go on a senior trip. The Aruba trip was organized because it was a much safer place than previous locations; for instance, our trip was to Cancun. I would like to clarify a few misconceptions, although knowing it may not change opinions.

First, the purpose of the chaparones is not to baby-sit, nor is it to monitor every movement the graduates make. This trip was organized the same way ours was…the chaparones’ essential purpose is to be there to help with any problem, no matter who big or small, but not to restrict us in an effort to prevent them. Our chaparones were visible, most often in the hotel lobby or on the beach. We ALWAYS knew were to find them if there was a problem. In fact, my year there was a problem and we knew where to go b/c we couldn’t handle it (fortunately there were not ill-fated consequences). So please, do not blame the chaparones…they were more-than-likely not at the bar as that was not their job, but rather milling around the lobby of the hotel just-in-case.

Secondly, everyone wants to place the blame on the parents for letting there her go. This community is tight-knit and as WOIMB said: “very safe … the Tiny Kingdom”. There is something to be said for realizing that your 18 yr. old is about to be on their own. For those of you who call them naive for thinking it was a “more controlled situation … to blow off steam”, you are mistaken. If you have children you would be naive to think that for them, and the majority of teens today, drinking and the presence of drugs is a not a norm, because it is. I am NOT saying they all do routinely, but at the very least they have been in situations were it is present. Those who have not are a rarity. Personally, I embrace the parenting tactics of many of these parents. You educate your children re the consequences of their actions, you enforce the consequences, yet at some point parents must rely on what they have done as a parent. Most of these parents feel that slowly loosening the reigns and exposing their children to a menagerie of situations makes them more-rounded adults, able to adapt to and better handle themselves in various situations. I feel that the parents that continue to “ride” their children who have proven to be responsible have doubts as to how effective a parent they have been. This trip has been going on for 15+ years, maybe longer, in this format; only the venue has changed. It is considered a “Rite of Passage” … have you guys heard of that??
Third, Natalee may have left willingly and may have made some questionable choices, but that does not make her a “slut”. WE DON’T KNOW WHAT SEE DID … PLEASE, STOP POSING ASSUMPTIONS AS ASCERTIONS OF FACT!! An instance does not define a person. Need I remind many of you that this young lady had high aspirations, and not only that she was well on her way towards achieving them. She does not have an illegitimate child nor does she have a rap sheet, or even a record of misconduct at school, quite the contrary in fact. Also, having been in Cancun on a senior trip, it is possible not to drink and have fun with your friends even if they are drinking. I had fun and yet never had more than one daquari while in Cancun. I am not trying to say wasn’t drinking, jsut making the point that we don’t know what she was doing.

Please just pray for her. Don’t judge her, her family/friends, or where she came from. It is a wonderful place, and though the perception of it from the outside may be oneway, it is a stereotype (not applicable to every person living there) and nothing more.

    78. cancon on June 10th, 2005 12:02 pm

Lucas, interesting rumour, I have been struck by the fact that the mother has seemed too calm, too matter of fact from the beginning, and was always hopeful that her daughter was still alive even after they arrested the first 2 suspects

now to be fair different people react to stress differently and some people can manage to keep a brave public face no matter what but if it had been my daughter, whilst I would still put out the same message and try to talk to all the media I could, I could not do it in so calm a manner, and keep my composure at all times, I’d be messed up……….esp when you look at the cases of how parents acted when their children have been missing, the stepfather always looks and sounds more upset

    79. MtnBrkGrad on June 10th, 2005 12:04 pm

P.S. Angel, to clarify, her parents are divorced. Her father lives in Meridian, Miss. Both of her parents are remarried. Her father is on the island, too. Also, I believe her mother was able to get down quickly by knowing someone (either directly or in the community) that offered to fly her down on a jet b/c I know a gentleman who’s daughter had returned and yet he went down to help the next day.

Mtn Brk Grad…having the oportunityt o teb so close to freinds and the community….I wanted to ask you what their honest opinion is about this hole situation? Was Natalee really drunk? We just heard a couple from Boston say that they saw her totaly wasted in the bathroom,,,,her girlfreinds were “fixing her up” and asked the guys to take her to the hotel?? Everytime we hear something new…..can you give us some insight from Alabama?

    85. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:31 pm

she was drinking heavily from all the witness reports as well as what the AP is publishing. She met the guy two days before at a casino and that is why her friends did nothing when she left the bar with him. I have also confirmed that the Costa Rica story is 100 percent true. Her parents filed a missing persons report in CR. Natalee showed up 4 days later with little explanation as to where she had been.

    86. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 2:37 pm

NO way! I cant believe what you are saying Alabama Journalist! And the parents are denying anythingabout this…if this is truely a run away story, or planned thing….Which I truelly believe it is, or maybe just want to believe it is that way so she is safe somewhere…..but i what i dont like aout this whole case is that everyone is being so secretive…i undrstand their are certain things you need to stay quiet due to an investigation, but their are somethings liek this one for example that need to be said because poeple get a differnt perspective and innocent people dont get harrased or blamed…..but then again NO ONE knows what happened! It truelly a complicated thing!

    87. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:38 pm

by the way great postings on this site. I have checked into many of the rumors and stories I have heard on this site and quite frankly the majority of the more feasible rumors have been for the most part accurate, (I am excluding “rumors” that this is all a ploy by the U.S to spy on Venezuela and other such nonsense…I am sure that guy gets freaked out by the unmarked black helicopters that follow him to work everyday too…)
      Again…great site.

    88. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:39 pm

I am certainly not saying this is a run away case…I don’t think it is. The fact that someone runs away in the past does not mean she would do it again. Again I do not think this is a runaway…Way too much info that would not lead one to that conclusion.

    89. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:41 pm

The story about Costa Rica is true…I have multiple credible sources here in the states that have backed this story up 100 percent.

    90. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 2:45 pm

I just hope this IS a runaway case so that she is foudn safe and sound!…..but if she did run away i think she should have been found by now….or has really good freinds that are hiding her, but she is $75,000 on 2 feet….so if it is a runa way hopefully one of her “freinds” can give her in….and not get 1cent of the money!

    91. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 2:47 pm

As a journalist…what is your opinion on this story? Honestly….not news stuff…gut feeling knowing what you know about all this….Have you interviewed any of the students or chaperones their?

    92. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:48 pm

I wouldn’t bet on it. Who does she know in Aruba other than the guys they arrested? Surely if she was hiding out with one of them they would have rolled over on her by now. Who goes out to a bar, gets lit and then runs away in the middle of the night hammered and without her bags, passport or any other belongings? I guarantee this is no run away case. If she is alive she is being held forcibly somewhere…unforunately I do no think this is the case…she is dead.

    93. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 2:49 pm

Is their anynews paper or articel about her Costa Rica runaway? A link that we can check it out??

I have 4 really really good freinds that I met thorugh the internet…so how are we sure this isnt the case? You truly have a point but I think I just dont want to believe shes dead…because her body should have been found by now either from the bad smell or floating

    95. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:53 pm

No article, the Aruban press obviouosly has the same info I do as they asked the mother about it at a presser. I have a source at the FBI that confirmed the missing persons report filed in Costa Rica a few years ago. He is asking to remain anonymous, as leaking the info is illegal. I have another source in the California FBI missing persons unit that has backed up his story as well.

    96. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 2:54 pm

btu nothing was ever published? And how come the FBI was so quickly involved? Thier must be power from somewhere! And it is also said her father is a powerful man thier and he was once threatened that they would kidnap his kids…..what is that posibility? That is has to do with a family “problem”?

    97. angel23 on June 10th, 2005 2:55 pm

I told you all this case smells…… If she did this in Costa Rica why not in Aruba, the parents are to blame if this is true for not providing the right information to the public.

Journalist any links to the Costarican story on Natalee or any dates maybe?

    98. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:57 pm

I have no info about her father, this is the first I am hearing about about this. I believe her real father lives in Miss. but I am not sure. I do know that the mother contacted our senator and told him she thought too little was being done, he then called the FBI and got them involved

    99. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 2:59 pm

She arrived with the 3 FBI agents Monday! how in the world would she know not much was being done?? It was only hours later! Again this is a very strange case!

    100. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 2:59 pm

I have no dates, my source said “a few years ago”. I would estimate that it would be no more than three years at the most. Like I said before…this not a run away case, I just wanted to pass my info along. Read my post a bit earlier and I think you will see that this is certainly not a runaway

    101. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 3:01 pm

I don’t see it as so strange. Just a case of rich people with good contacts being able to get more done than the average citizen.

    102. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 3:11 pm

THe Prime Minister is giving a declaration in Papiamento though on Top95fm
if anything will keep youposted…….he says that the parents are very well informed even through deputies senators etc. and they said that they know alot! even more than some of the law enforcements here, and Our prime minister told them about the laws here and explain everything, and assure them that their is no person above gthe law here…so if their is a charge they will be charged liek any other (i think that he said for the deputies son that is jailed) the family is even doing their own seperate investigation. He says he went in to speak to the family to reassure them…but they compeltely surprised him with the information they have and are getting…so he says they are well informed of many things that we are not informed of. Also that some press from outside aruba are giving news that are not correcxt jsut becuase they are trying to “sell a story”. Today he had interviews with all big news stations to clarify all this and to show that even our complete government is involved to help with this. He set up a mass in the name of Natalee and invited the family to go with them to pray for Natalee’s safe return The minister and his family will be joined by Natalee’s family and the Holoways and Twitty’s are very grateful for the Gov’t attention and work….

    103. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 3:14 pm

so basically another presser with absolutely no information whatsoever. These people need to pick up the pace and quit worrying about giving press conferences every half hour to try to steer their public relations nightmare in the other direction

    104. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 3:17 pm

All press conferences have been canceled from now on only when major discoveries or information is needed to be gien they will have them…..The Minister got dogs even and he even said that ask what you want me to get for help and Ill get it im not ashamed to have more help…this has nothign to do with shame here….this has to do with finding this girl safe! and bring her home!….apparently the family even has direct contact to all congress men and mayors, even the president

    105. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 3:18 pm

Journalist….do you have contacts with CNN? Becuase they say that everyone has come to the minister to get the correct infromation, but no one from CNN has contacted him….and as we know CNN is the most watched News channel…….wouldnt it be good to have them interview him?

    108. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 3:23 pm

    109. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 3:25 pm

Maybe Aruba should get all the help it can get since this is the 1st time Aruba is confronted with something like this…..maybe having more professionals here…being FBI is already here…..would help bring closer to this

    110. alabama journalist on June 10th, 2005 3:28 pm

The amongst the media community is that CNN is backing away from this story a bit. That would be in line with what you said about them not interviewing him. A simple check of the overnight ratings will show you that CNN is drowning right now inn comparison to FOX and yes even the Daily Show. I haven’t heard an explanation as to why they are backing off but that is a decision from the top. They are still providing updates but last night they didn’t even have those pics of the suspects like everyone else and thier mothers.

    111. AmericaninAruba on June 10th, 2005 3:31 pm

      Chief government spokesman Ruben Trapenberg;
      Attorney General Caren Janssen;
      Attorney general spokeswoman Vivian Van Der Biezan;
      Aruban Police Commander Jan van der Straaten;
      Aruban Police spokesman Edwin Comenencia;
      Deputy police chief Gerold Dompig;
      Night watch commander Rudie Soemers;
      Police commander Trudy Hassell;
      Tourism Minister Edison Briesen;
      Nelson Oduber;

Janssen denied that Aruban officials had blocked FBI divers from searching coastal waters. In fact, she said, FBI divers had not yet even attempted to make any dives. “They are here to study the situation in case it is necessary to dive and send for the necessary equipment,” she told The AP late Thursday. She said their presence on the island was “purely for orientation” and that “nobody has been sent back.”
Those statements contradicted comments from Aruban Police spokesman Edwin Comenencia, who had said earlier that FBI divers had conducted searches, but suspended them on Wednesday because they had covered the area they set out to. Asked about the situation on Thursday, Comenencia would only say, “We are working together.”
      En
In an important reversal, officials also said the two arrested men have not been charged as had been announced previously. The attorney general’s spokeswoman, Vivian Van Der Biezan, said authorities initially misspoke while trying to explain the situation to foreign reporters in English, a second language in this Dutch territory
      En
Reports conflicted Saturday in developments of the Alabama honor student who has been missing in Aruba for almost two weeks.
Aruban Minister of Justice Edward Croes told FOX News Natalee Holloway, who was on vacation with friends as a graduation trip when she disappeared, was confirmed dead and that authorities know the location of her body.
However, the mother of the 17-year-old told FOX News authorities had not yet contacted them with this information. Croes also said that Natalee’s father, who is divorced from her mother, was with investigators looking for the body.
These reports came after significant, yet at times conflicting, developments with the five suspects being detained in the case.
One of the young men detained admitted “something bad happened” to the woman after they took her to the beach, a police officer said, while prosecutors said the investigation was at a crucial point.
But prosecutors refused to comment on the statement by Deputy Police Commissioner Gerold Dompig , who told The Associated Press that the man who made that admission was leading police to the scene. He refused to identify which of the three young men who took Holloway to a northern beach the night she went missing made the statement.
Police refused Saturday morning to say whether they discovered anything overnight to solve the mystery of what happened to Holloway, who was last seen in the early hours of May 30.
Referring to Dompig’s statement, prosecution spokeswoman Vivian van der Biezen said Saturday: “We neither confirm nor deny any information coming from other sources … [about] alleged statements of suspects in this case.”

Use spell check and proofread! A plural “computers” does NOT have an apostrophe! The more you do this, the less validity your source is.

Has anyone seen the pics of Van der Sloot and the 2 friends that are brothers? First of all, Van der Sloot is a good-looking young guy and his 2 foriegn friends look like 9/11 terrorists.
What cute 18 yr old American girl would be attracted to those 2 scary-looking brothers? S
So maybe they were tired of Van der Sloot always getting the babes. After Van der Sloot claimed they dropped him off with Natalee still in the car could be true. The 2 ugly brothers made some passes at her, which she rejected an they got pissed and killed her? How about that theory?

on Satish’s tickle page he has a quiz , in which one of the questions is ” Wie zou ik graag willen zijn voor 1 dag? ” and his choices are “hitler”, “a little girl”, “god” , and”a homo”. His correct answer was hitler…pretty disturbing

First, the boys: The Dutch boy looks bad in the photo but I haven’t heard that mentioned much –in some ways he looks more foreboding than his friends, especially if you look slightly below the surface. I wouldn’t want to be on Dutch boy’s bad side or especially want my daughter to date him from seeing the photo. I’d ask her if he is volatile, intense, edgy, or bullying. I don’t care for any of those three from the photo…of course that doesn’t mean they harmed her. I am so sad and sorry Natalee is missing and fear for her, and the photo of those last seen with her increases my concern.

Secondly, Aruba: I don’t think the island will suffer very long from lack of adult tourism, however I do think that parents of teens will re-think Aruba depending on how this turns out. If they never find her, it will have a bigger effect and most teens will go elsewhere. If she is found and if it is clear that the one responsible for her disappearance gets convicted, it would help a lot. However, if it looks like a coverup or like the wrong people are paying the price, that will hurt all.

Thirdly, the teen trip: The whole idea of teens basically being “non escorted” on this trip is just very unwise. While usually things work out okay, all you need is one bad apple in the barrel to do it’s damage. One or all of these three may be the ones that we all fear will harm our loved ones. Weren’t all the teens briefed about basics like: always stay with your class group, never get in cars with strangers, a stranger is someone you have just met during this trip, watch each other’s backs, be unpopular and stop your friends from putting themselves in danger, etc, etc. Weren’t there bed checks and curfews so at least a missing teen could be found missing right away?

Finally and most importantly, regarding Natalee and her importance: I hope and pray someone will come forward with information that saves her, or helps find her, or solves the likely crime,” Like her Mom says, one or MORE persons have information they are not sharing. I am holding out hope that she may yet be found although it is getting more difficult to imagine what scenario that would be. Please, someone, tell the police what you know. People have asked the question, why so much fuss about Natalee? I think it’s because the missing girl hit a powerful chord. She represents everyone’s daughter, everyone’s teen, We all make decisions every day about what to let our teens and children do. Parents are pressured to allow their children to go to clubs on trips, etc. We try to make wise decisions. Natalee is attractive and looks wholesome and vulnerable. She’s an honors student who also has a pre medical university scholarship. Thus she was on the road to what looked like a very bright future in which she might help people. Thus the loss hits us all because of our own hopes and dreams. We identify because we are young or because we remember when we were young. Additionally, as parents, we all want our children to have bright futures that aren’t cut off like this. When you are doing good things well, but then lose all, it just seems all the more tragic for some reason. Maybe it gives us a feeling of even less control because no matter how well we do, or how good we usually are, one mistake and we or our loved ones could meet up with bad situation like Natalee.

Look, these 3 guys are really rich guys, and they might have influence. But NONE of them are LOCALS, so it is unfair for the whole island and aruban community to get judged by some “rich silverspoon-fed” guys who are NOT even arubans.

I’ve been to Carlos n Charlies many times, everybody drinks and have fun, some tourists drink too much and get on the podium and flash or whatever, some go and make out with the first person they find etc. I personally don’t like that place, but it isn’t doing anything out of the ordinairy, people get drunk and things happen.

What i personally think is that the dutch boy is primairly responsible, i heard one of the 2 brothers is really starting to sh*t his pants, i think it’s just a matter of time before they rat out the dutch boy.

I think it’s a real shame that Natalee is missing and something bad might have happened to her. But what i’ve read, she went along with them on her own free will, with 3 guys in a car, on a strange island? Now I’m sorry to say this, but that wasn’t smart of her either.

Local people here have done a lot to search for Natalee, her parents said so themselves. Aruba is a sage island, yes, crime does happen here just like any other place, but it’s really really low.

Personally i hope they find her well, but that hope is fading fast i’m afraid. I really hope they get to the bottom of this fast. And if that rich dutch guy is responsible, i hope they get him and get him hard!

no one should be above the law!

so please, don’t blame the locals or the whole island, let’s wait and see how things turn out first.

We reap what we sow. We sow the wind we reap the whirlwind! Now the US southerners know how it feels like when someone else more powerful covers up a murder of one of their (southerners) own. Throughout the history of the US South, the southerners covered up the crimes and atrocities committed on African Americans such as Emett Till..local jury acquited them!

Having said that, God bless Natalie Holloway’s mom who said that the black guys were not responsible. I have no doubt that the Dutch chap knows everything…he is the likely culprit. Perhaps the Aruban government was expecting the white southerners to act like a lynch mob and focus on the black chaps..did not work..now they are trying to desparately cover up.

I think that she may still be alive in the basement of a Dutch expatriate or some other expatriate in Aruba or Curacao…she was perhaps sold to one of these chaps by the Dutch fellow..after all he had this questionable stuff in the internet. Why aren’t they talking to his expat friends?

Not in this case, Michelle. “Computer’s” is used in place of “Computer is”, so an apostrophe is appropriate and you need to check your “proofing”!

      Several mistakes were made…

–the community of Mountain Brook is a universe unto itself. Everyone feels safe there. The parents let the kids run around like little adults. When this trip was planned, the fact that only 7 “chaperones” (loosely-termed) went along was the first error in judgment. It set up the tragedy.

–Natalee should have stayed close to her friends. Especially at the end of the last night there. That is the most critical time when something bad could happen. The Dutch boy is well versed, I’m sure on, “last night” partying with American girls who have to go home to their mundane world the next morning. At a time when Natalee needed to be most prudent, she was the opposite. If it is true that she was drunk, she was in no position to make responsible decisions. This is where her friends should have stepped up and said, “You are going back to your room with us!” or, “If you are going with those guys, we are all going, too!” Didn’t happen. Drunk girl. No friends. Mistake #2.

–The third mistake was the support system fell apart when Natalee didn’t show up anywhere. This occurred from 1:00-4:30 a.m. Someone should have checked her room and notified the adults or at the very least, her closest friends. They could have started checking around looking for Natalee outside the hotel or at least locating the Dutch kids phone number. Someone knew his name. He had been hanging with them for two days. No one did a thing until it was time to go to the airport. Too late.

No one stepped up and took responsibility at any point in this tragedy. The parents trusted the kids to behave in a foreign country that favors major partying. The chaperones were not really authority figures who had any kind of power on the trip and even if they had, there was only seven of them. Natalee acted irresponsibly and unable to take care of herself. Her friends didn’t watch out for her at a time when she needed them most. The three boys took advantage of a drunk and helpless girl. No one demonstrated character, wisdom, responsibility or decisiveness.

It is easy to put all the blame on the three boys and if they did commit a major crime here, they should be punished to the full extent of the law. With all of Natalee’s mistakes and the other issues mentioned above, the price of being murdered is far too high. Natalee did NOT deserve to die. But, tragedies are built on baby steps of bad judgment. Add all those steps up and you either suffer a horrible fate or you luck out and dodge a bullet. The greatest legacy of Natalee’s life, whether she is alive or not, will be the lesson to all young people out there that they need to be responsibile for the decisions they make at ALL times, whether high, drunk or sober. There is a lesson for parents, as well. Make sure you understand all the circumstances of the environment you are sending your child into, no matter what their age or your perception of their maturity. And, if you are a friend,…then BE a friend at all times, even if it means upsetting the person you are trying to help. Natalee needed her friends that night. For some reason, they were not there for her. I am not assessing blame here, but something broke down in the support system.

I pray every day she will be found alive. I ache for the parents of all these kids. I have a 20 year old daughter myself. This has been a wake up call for all of us. God Bless Natalee Holloway.
