Pelosi Plays Politics With Troop Funding, Then Off To Meet With the Enemy

PelosiNancy Pelosi has to be one of the stupider people to hold office. Thank god most of the media backs her otherwise she would be chased out of her Speaker’s role by the irate mob. But with a liberal media’s backing, her horrible behavior is being shielded and well hidden.

First, she allows billions of dollars to be added to a troop funding bill and sets timetables that are so unrealistic that a veto is guaranteed by the President. Don’t tell me President Bush could pass this, it would be impossible morally or politically. So Pelosi is playing hard core politics with troop funding. I do not like that part, but politics is a rough sport and I can live with it in the short term.

But then to go Syria in the midst of this battle over troop funding has to teeter on the edge of treason. We know that Syria is one of our enemy’s in the Middle East supplying aid and supplies to the enemy. They are not an ally in the region but a hostile combatant. For someone of her political stature to go and have meetings with them will empower an entity actively working against our military.

So in one week Nancy Pelosi has hurt the morale of our fighting men and women and raced off to meet their de facto enemy? Tell me that there isn’t something very wrong with this picture.

Pelosi will not be the first member of Congress in recent months to travel to Syria, but as House speaker she is the most senior.
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said the speaker “should take a step back and think about the message that it sends.”
“This is a county that is a state sponsor of terror, one that is trying to disrupt the Senora government in Lebanon and one that is allowing foreign fighters to flow into Iraq from its borders,” Perino said.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “probably really wants people to come, and have a photo opportunity, and have tea with him, and have discussions about where they’re coming from. But we just think it’s a really bad idea,” Perino said.
Pelosi’s office did not immediately return a call seeking comment on why she was not heeding administration warnings. via the AP

Since you semiliterate halfwits are once again confusing your one-handed fantasies with reality, let’s count the ways you are wrong:

      1. Pelosi is heading a bipartisan delegation to Syria. Apparently, House Republicans are repulsive, suicidal, and treasonous too?

      2. Trips from U.S. officials to Syria are not that unusual. Sens. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) recently traveled to Damascus, where Specter reportedly “stressed the importance of reactivating the dialogue between the United States and Syria to achieve security and stability in the Middle East.” Let me guess, the Republican senator from Pennsylvania also deserves to have his patriotism questioned, right?

      3. Pelosi’s trip is consistent with the judgment of the Iraq Study Group, which as recently as Thursday, the White House praised for offering guidelines that lawmakers should follow.

      4. The Bush administration itself has initiated some tentative discussions with Syrian officials recently. By the right’s logic, it would appear the Bush administration is undermining the Bush administration’s policy.

      5. The White House said it had not been informed about Pelosi’s delegation visiting Syria. This is false – Bush and Pelosi discussed it on Thursday.

      6. A number of right-wing Republican lawmakers are already in Syria now:

“Not only are the administration’s attacks on Pelosi hypocritical, but the timing suggests they are a partisan hit. ThinkProgress has learned that a delegation of Republicans is currently in Syria. (This has not been previously reported by the press.) Why did the White House wait until Pelosi’s imminent visit to raise this issue publicly, and not make mention of the Republicans already there?

Here’s what the White House isn’t talking about:

Republican Reps. Aderholt and Wolf are currently visiting Syria. According to a congressional official on Rep. Robert Aderholt’s (R-AL) staff, Aderholt and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) are currently visiting Israel and Syria.”

    4. Houston on March 31st, 2007 3:39 pm

oh wow number 3. according to you Looks like we need to let em fight it out in the streets of San Francisco and LA….and what about….maybe Boston and New York…..hot lead they understand.

    5. Devil's Advocate on March 31st, 2007 4:12 pm

Psst… Republican Reps. Aderholt and Wolf are currently visiting Syria. “According to a congressional official on Rep. Robert Aderholt’s (R-AL) staff, Aderholt and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) are currently visiting Israel and Syria.”

Specter (R – PA) visited Syria earlier this year. My, these Republicans are teetering on the edge of treason.

One wonders what Pelosi’s motive is for going there at this critical time. Given that Iran is, once again, using its “hostage card” for all it can (I trust that we all remember the American hostages held in Iran under President Carter), what possible justification is there for such a senior official to be going to Syria? Photo ops?

Her model must be Jesse Jackson.

    7. punkingale on March 31st, 2007 7:22 pm

Since y’all seem to think Nancy Pelosi is one of the stupider (should be stupidest when comparing more than two) people to hold office, what must you think of Chimpy????

    8. cs on March 31st, 2007 8:41 pm

      Bloomberg.com:
\”Perino’s remarks come as a group of Republican lawmakers has embarked on their own trip to Syria. Michael Lowry, a spokesman for Representative Robert Aderholt, said that the Alabama lawmaker will visit Syria as part of a Republican delegation led by Representative Frank Wolf, a Virginia Republican. Wolf is the top Republican on the House appropriations subcommittee that funds the State Department.

Perino wasn’t available to comment about that trip. ”

      So, what’s the big deal?

    9. Devil's Advocate on March 31st, 2007 8:55 pm

      Punkingale,

Notice that none of the Bush cultists is addressing the fact that Republicans have already been to Syria (Specter), or are there currently.

Republicans’ visit to Syria = GOOD. Bipartisan group led by a Democrat visiting Syria = VERY, VERY , VERY, BAD. In fact, it is evil and teetering on the edge of treason…

No wonder these creatures are in the 29% minority. They are complete fanatics, just like the Taliban.

    10. LilPuma on April 1st, 2007 11:50 pm

Jesse Jackson is going to be miffed. It’s his job to meet with our enemies.

    11. Michael on April 2nd, 2007 2:57 pm

One wonders what Pelosi’s motive is for going there at this critical time.

…Because Bush has screwed up so badly in the Middle East that it’s about time an adult took over.

It’s amusing watching the rightwing authoritarian set go after anybody, including their own (see Reps. Hobson, Aderholt, Wolf) for not hating the enemy enough. For them, any attempt at diplomacy = surrender.

      @#$%^&*&! Children.

this bitch needs to be removed from office the treasonous piece of work. it’s no wonder our enemies support the dems

    13. punkingale on April 3rd, 2007 7:16 pm

I tried to post earlier, but forgot to add 1 and 2. Devil’s Advocate: Bush is probably afraid Nancy Pelosi will accomplish something he hasn’t been able to do. If he talked about Repubs going to Syria, he couldn’t make this political. Most people have seen through him for a long time now. Especially Matthew Dowd.

    14. Ramlady on April 4th, 2007 5:13 am

Here you go libs; I’ll break it down for you so even you can understand: The Bush administration advised both the Republican congressmen and the Dems, including Nancy Pelosi, NOT to go to Syria. Despite your fanatical hatred of Bush, he IS still the President, not Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, or any Republican congressman. He makes the calls, just as Clinton made the calls when he was in charge. If Bush felt the need to discuss matters with Syria, he would send Condi Rice. We have one Secretary of State, and it is NOT Nancy Pelosi. And whoever said she was part of a bipartisan delegation is delusional or extremely naive. As leader of the Dems, she is pursuing an ALTERNATE strategy with Syria–she is NOT working with the President. It’s all about face time for her.

Condi Rice CANNOT close a deal. Trump was right. All she does is wave.

    17. Ramlady on April 8th, 2007 2:11 am

#16; International diplomacy is just a wee bit more complicated and delicate than wheeling and dealing in real estate, and the consequences of failure far greater. Something tells me you would love to see President Hillarious appoint Trump Secretary of State. He couldn’t shut Rosie up with his insults, but I’m sure, in your mind, he has the diplomatic skills to achieve peace in the middle east. What a simple-minded lot you liberals are.
