Aruba Tourism 2006 into 2007 … Money, Money, Money … Down the Drain

As reported earlier today, Aruba tourism still on the downward slide. So much this being over in four days. The 2006 tourism numbers are a far cry from what they were in 2004 prior to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

Take a look at the video … For an island based on the monies from the tourism dollar, they certainly are going in the opposite direction.

      SATISH KALPOE 06/30/2005 Suspect Statement

      ——–

On your question if Joran drove the car of its parents, I can explain to you the following:

I have never seen Joran drive the cars of his parents. ****You must ask Freddy if Joran drove the cars of his parents. The parents of Joran have two cars and they are a dark blue “Hyundai” jeep and a red car of which I now no longer remember what kind.

On your question if Deepak, Joran I on Sunday, May 29, 2005, and/or on Monday, May 30, 2005, in the nighttime hours drove to Joran’s house, I can explain to you the following:

      *********
The only moment that we went to Joran’s house was on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at around 23:15 or 23.30, when Deepak and I had picked up Joran at his apartment.

Sexual Predators Are Selling Young American Women Into Prostitution

Jan. 30, 2007 – It sounds like something from a movie – teens targeted and lured from malls and streets into prostitution.
Sadly, it’s a reality for an increasing number of young women not just in foreign countries but in the United States as well. Those who end up trapped in modern-day sexual slavery call it “the life.”

Mistreated, alone and living in a foster home, one young girl told ABC News her story. Sara, who asked that her named be changed to protect her identity, said she was seduced into “the life” by a man who claimed to love her when she was only 13-years-old.
“He told me things like nobody had ever told me. So I felt like a $100 million,” Sara said.
After professing his love, Sara’s new friend sold her to a pimp for a mere $100.
“I got sold. That’s horrible. Like I was an animal,” Sara said.
The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that between 100,000 and 3 million American kids under age 18 are involved in prostitution and they’re often targeted by sexual predators.
“There are sexual predators… We call them pimps, traffickers,” said Rachel Lloyd, director of GEMS, Girls Educational and Mentoring Services, an advocacy group that helps girls who have been sexually exploited. “Ultimately, they’re predators who are out there specifically looking for vulnerable kids so that they can sell them,”
      Lured by Big Promises
“Good Morning America” parenting contributor Anne Pleshette Murphy said the victims of teen trafficking aren’t confined to any one demographic.
“These girls come from every walk of life, rich or poor, of all races,” she said. “The common denominator is that they are vulnerable to these predators. An estimated 80 to 95 percent of children selling sex have a history of sexual abuse.”
Often predators pose as legitimate professionals to capture their victims.
“There are girls that are literally kidnapped off the street, are thrown into a car,” Lloyd said. “There are pimps who pose as model agency scouts.”
Another woman, Miya, said the promise of a glamorous modeling career enticed her to leave her job at a mall when she was 18-years-old and run off with a couple who would end up exploiting her.

“He asked if it would be out of place if he said I was pretty. And I… was like, no,” she said. “And he said that he was a model agent. He was looking for new models in the area. It seemed interesting.”
According to Miya, the couple took her from Arizona to California, where she spent a week in the brutal world of sexual exploitation.

Ernie Allen of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said constant moves – a vagabond lifestyle – is fairly common for recently abducted teens.
“They [kidnappers] move them to evade detection,” he said. “The fact that they may be identified on the streets of one city, they certainly minimize, lessen the risk if they move them to another city.”
Pop Culture Masks Horror of ‘The Life’
While music videos, movies and magazines sometimes glorify the lifestyle of pimps and prostitutes, in reality, “the life” is far from glamorous.
“What you see in the movies…it’s not like that,” Sara said. “They don’t tell you the part about the rapes. They don’t tell you about getting beat up. They don’t tell you that you might die, like, every day.”
Popular culture also doesn’t reveal how hard it is to escape.
“The kids are not involved in this terrible crime as a result of choice,” Allen explained. “They are involved because of fear, because of force and because of actual physical and psychological harm.”
According to Sara, even law enforcement officials let her down.
“I never got arrested because my pimp used to pay off cops, or I would end up having sex with the cops so that I wouldn’t get locked up,” she said.
Steps are being taken to protect girls from a fate similar to Sara’s. President Bush recently re-authorized the trafficking victims protection law, strengthening the campaign against worldwide trafficking in people, especially the effort to combat the sex trade in the United States.
But for Sara, it took four years and numerous attempts before she finally escaped and got help. Today, she remains terrified of being discovered and dragged back into “the life.” Still, she’s moving ahead, one step at a time.
“I’m proud of myself because, like, at least I can go to sleep every night,” she said. “At least I don’t have to worry about being raped or … being killed. I actually can go through a normal life without fear.”

Website KvK / ARUBA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE website has been hacked -

      Tuesday, January 30, 2007

WILLEMSTAD The website of the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) is down since yesterday afternoon. The site has been hacked; they do not know yet how and by whom. Expectations are that it will take a week before the website is operational again.

Up till then, people can call the Business-information-center if information is needed on companies and foundations. This instance has received a lot of call this morning. Florida Daflaar of the KvK says that the data of the enterprises are definitely not lost.

Anybody that clicked the website this morning received a white screen with one phrase that refers to the e-mail address of a serial killer . It is not the first time that the website of the KvK gets hacked, says Davelaar. We think that this is more the work of malicious youth. They KvK
didn’t figure out who the perpetrator was last time. At that time, the perpetrator had linked the website to a website you don t want to see , as Davelaar put it.

The IT-department of the KvK has the slightest idea of who had hacked the site this time.

Just a white page with the words No Startpage showed up later this morning. Except for the fact that it is very unpleasant, the damage is restricted to just the website being down. We have IT-people working for the KvK and these are currently working very hard to avoid this in the future and to better safeguard the site. Problem is that hackers are very inventive and they
keep finding ways to get into your system.
We cannot understand why they do this. -end- J4N

Nice job of documenting Aruba’s self-inflicted downward spiral! Imagine how much better shape they’d be in had they decided to do the right thing and actively investigate and prosecute their guilty Dutch boy. What a shame they chose the low road.

    20. Richard on January 31st, 2007 11:29 am

Hey, everyone, there’s some news about Joel Gove, the American man missing on Saba island. You know, the place where they wouldn’t put up missing-person posters because doing so might alarm people or something. Can’t let your tourist revenue get hit, right?

Well, apparently cadaver dogs have reacted strongly to a scent in a remote ravine. Nobody else on the island is missing, and the ex-wife believes that probably the mystery is over … at least, what happened.

But GET THIS. I’m posting the link and the outrageous portion of the story. Emphasis added.

      http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-6/1170222373213820.xml&coll=1

      Wednesday, January 31, 2007
Cadaver dogs that searched the small Caribbean island of Saba for missing Trenton resident Joel D. Gove reacted positively for the presence of human remains in a steep ravine, and Gove’s former wife is now organizing a private search team to recover what she believes is his body.

      xxx

Gonzales said she’s organizing hiking and mountain-climbing specialists to go back and hopefully retrieve Gove’s body.
She didn’t talk in detail of the cadaver searches until yesterday because she was working with Saba authorities on the possibility of having Dutch military officials come to the island with the gear necessary to climb the ravine.

NOW SHE BELIEVES THE EFFORT WILL HAVE TO COME FROM THIS COUNTRY.

Saba’s top police official, Lt. Gov. Sidney Sorton, could not be reached by phone yesterday to discuss the development.

Gonzales said she believes she will need about $75,000 to fund a hiking crew to travel to the island with rappelling gear to descend into the ravine and retrieve the body.

      (end of excerpt)

So there we have it … disappear in the Netherlands Antilles? With Amy Bradley, with Natalee Holloway, and now with Joel Gove … you disappear, your family does the search, and pays for it.

Excuse me? Doesn’t the local government have ANY responsibility? Is this the case in the Netherlands Antilles … “we want your dollars, but to hell with you.”

      BOYCOTT THE WHOLE DAMN PLACE!

    24. Dayhiker on January 31st, 2007 12:01 pm

Affirmative Richard, if the island governments do a serious search they’re afraid they’ll find a body. Bad for tourism. They much prefer the “runaway” scenario. Worked in the past, Aruba just got caught red-handed trying to cover up Natalee’s case thanks to a strong, diligent mother who wasn’t going to let them get away with it.

    25. Miss-Underestimated on January 31st, 2007 12:11 pm

These travel agents pushing to travel to these places should sell recovery insurance to their tourists, since it appears that if you disappear on any of these swills, you are on your own to search for your lost.missing.murdered love on.

      ARUAB BLOWS BIG TIME

    26. Libby on January 31st, 2007 1:03 pm

No kidding Richard…bottom of post #20. Can you imagine if the United States took the same position as Aruba if they were to have a missing loved in the United States? Uh…sorry…we don’t have time and we don’t care about your loved one. You will have to bring your own family / search party..and endure the cost too. I mean, we will help you briefly look…but…not in places we know the person might be. I mean, the United States can’t have that type of publicity should we find the person injured and deceased. Oh and if you try to look certain places, we will ban you from that area or have you arrested. Oh and warrants are only good for certain areas.

By the way, how much money do you have?

Great job with the video Klaas!

I will refrain from saying Joran was the last person seen with Natalee, I will say all 3 are the last ones to be seen with Natalee. To say the other, would be saying I believe what the Kalpoes say about where they went and didn’t pick Joran up. I don’t believe he ever took Natalee to the beach. Joran however states that Satish did pick him up.

    30. Maggie on January 31st, 2007 4:47 pm

This is one of my favorites during Joran’s interview with Greta. His first intention was to have sex with her and so he says he told her, we can walk up towards your hotel, there’s lots of people there too. If you were intending to have sex why would you suggest going where there’s lots of people? Also that Deepak and Satish had never done this for him before, what happened to we done this 20 times before and we all have been in the same room having sex with tourists before. The one and only night they claim they took Joran to the beach and left him alone with a girl, she’s missing? How convenient for their made up bs story. Loonie Tunes..

VAN SUSTEREN: What was your intention at that point to have sex with her?

VAN DER SLOOT: That was my, yes, that was my intention, yes. That was my first intention.

VAN SUSTEREN: And where did you think Deepak and Satish were going?

      VAN DER SLOOT: At home.

VAN SUSTEREN: You thought they’d go all the way home and come back and get you?

VAN DER SLOOT: Yes, it’s not that far of a drive.

VAN SUSTEREN: Why would they do that for you?

VAN DER SLOOT: I don’t know. They’re friends I think, yes. They would have done that.

VAN SUSTEREN: Had they ever done that before for you?

VAN DER SLOOT: That, no, but I don’t have a – I don’t have a car, so how else would I have gotten home? I mean I could have paid a taxicab to have gotten home but, no, they said – he was fine with that. He said “That’s fine.” He would pick me up and bring me home.

      (END VIDEOTAPE)

VAN SUSTEREN: Coming up, Joran van der Sloot admits he intended to have sex with Natalee Holloway that night but did he? Joran gives his side of the story next.

      (COMMERCIAL BREAK)

VAN SUSTEREN: In the early morning hours of May 30, Joran van der Sloot says the Kalpoe brothers dropped Natalee and him at the beach agreeing to come back later and pick them up. What happened on the beach could be the key to solving this mystery.

      (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

VAN SUSTEREN: So you got out of the car. Did you have sex with Natalee?

VAN DER SLOOT: No, no, not…

      VAN SUSTEREN: How come?

VAN DER SLOOT: Well, we got at the beach. We walked up. I took off my shoes. We walked to the – to the ocean and that’s where we sat down as well. That’s where I left my shoes and then we started walking. And I asked her, you know, let’s – we can walk toward your hotel because there were a lot of people there too. And she wanted to walk the other way, so towards the – starting to go towards the lighthouse.

Maggie, we’ve heard so many stories from JvdS, most of them contradictions of what was said before, that his behavior does suggest psychopathic tendencies. Improvising lies on the spur of the moment, with never a thought of being held responsible.
