New Ethics Charges Brought Against Mike Nifong

NifongIt looks like the case against Mike Nifong has gotten a good deal stronger in the face of tougher ethics charges brought by the North Carolina Bar Association. If these charges are true, and the look like they will be by corroborating evidence brought by those involved, Nifong deserves the harshest of sentences himself. He has abused the trust of the people of Durham and should pay.

The North Carolina Bar filed an amended complaint today, accusing Nifong of withholding DNA evidence from the defense and making misrepresentations to the presiding judge in the case.

The bar has accused Nifong of conduct that involves “dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.” Nifong also allegedly violated a rule that “prohibits an attorney from knowingly making false statements of material fact.”

Previously, Nifong had been charged with making inappropriate and potentially prejudicial comments about the sexual assault case against Duke lacrosse players. Nifong’s comments were made in a series of public interviews early in the case.  via ABC News

“Nifong also allegedly violated a rule that “prohibits an attorney from knowingly making false statements of material fact.”"

Oh come on….just about every litigator has done this many, many times and no one turns on them. It is exactly why attorneys are known as the biggest liars in the world.

Though this guy needs to rot for what he has done….here is what is really going on:

He messed with the wrong people. Just like in Aruba, there is a power structure here in the US. He went after a bunch of rich kids from Duke and the reputation of Duke University itself. Bad move.

Rich Kids = Rich parents with connections to high powered attorneys

Duke University = Local graduates that are high powered attorneys

In the end….there is no way Nifong can fight anymore. He picked on the wrong folks. In the legal world, you cross ‘political’ lines or ‘money/power’ lines and you will find things flipped around on you so fast your head will spin.

This is why Nifong will rot….it is also why Aruba or the Dutch will never solve Natalee’s case without bringing Paulus back in. He is part of the ‘money/power’ connections and as a result of not crossing those lines….he is protected. md

I agree this poor standard of ethics goes on constantly, but since the DNA evidence from his “private” lab tests proved there was DNA from several men…but nothing from the Duke players….sounds to me like they truly are innocent of the charges.

The Duke boys were not smart to participate in such activities, so yes, they are at fault for placing themselves in the situation in the first place.

I will always feel this lady expected she’d be doing more than dancing and hoped to make $$$$$ off the “rich kids”. They certainly called her nasty names, but I believe she was simply offended and took off on a vendetta against them.

Too bad Nafong was just as crooked.

Also, I agree about Aruba/Natalee. Get Paulus back under the gun. He was the main perpetrator in the coverup!!

And if the players had been black and the stripper white you would be running him for governor!

No Madmatt, I don’t think so. Originally when this story broke, I was ready to punish both Duke and those young men. As it kept going forward, it became evident that there is no substance to this case. If the race was reversed, Jessie Jackson would not be calling for “justice” and the national media just might treat this case the way they are treating the Gang Rape and Murder of Channon Christian. In Minnesota the description of a multi rape suspect was withheld for days and days because the description was of a black male even though the area was in an uproar. It has been said through out this case that Nifong went after these young men and covered up the evidence as a pay off to the Black Community. Now maybe they will want to run him for governor with Al Sharpin running this campaign. He knows all about raising trumped up charges!

I have sympathy for Crystal. I have sympathy for those boys. As so many people have accused the young lady of not telling the truth, how do we really know? Nifong didn’t talk to her at all between April and December. We honestly do not know for sure what she actually told anyone. And if it comes off Nifongs lips, we know its a lie. He proved that himself that he lies. Nifong should FRY. Its scarey that a man with his power and control can ruin so many lives. He has nearly ruined a school as Duke’s enrollment is down nearly 30%. This ain’t about black/white. It is about a power hungry old lawyer who need to pay for the power grabbing he did.

#5: I have no sympathy for Crystal. It’s documented that she lied the night of the party claiming rape and sexual assault.

She also lied by picking the boys out of a lineup, thereby saying they are the ones who raped and assaulted her.

Nifong talked to her right before he recused himself and she said she wanted to continue with the trial.

Nifong has done bad things in this case and so has Crystal Gail Mangum.

Without her accusation this wouldn’t have happened.

    7. Joanie on January 24th, 2007 9:45 pm

Yes, I agree, Crystal did say something. But if Nifong had not talked to her from April to December, HOW can any of us be sure she made an accusation of any kind? Mike Nifong saw in her a way to get votes of a certain ethnicity – thats all. Were you present when she was interviewed? No one knows for sure what she said. The DA cannot be belived as he is an admitted liar. I feel bad for Crystal as Nifong used her as only a source of vote getting. Its possible he has made the whole charge up. I don’t trust him and I do not believe him – do you?!

This is a very good, indepth article on how Mike Nifong lied to all of us. He should be disbarred.

I am quite sure that this woman has visions of a realitivly easy way to make some BIG $$ and am also sure that she was being assured by Nyfongs people that this would be a slam dunk and when wo then off to civil court for the womans payday.
What the woman didnt reckon on was the attys also lyeing and witholding information or just not checking her story out .
I would hope that knows that she will have to work for a long long time untill her body and or looks fail her and then she will be regulated to a low income life .
How do I know all this ?
I worked in the Dept of corrections with womens groups and I can’t count on both hands the number of times that I have seen and heard this sceniero and it has almost always played out the same, Pimps wiether they be street Pimps or if they have Law Degrees they are all pretty much the same
I could trust a street Pimp more though because he usually will tell you upfront that he is running a scam( Playing the Game as they see it ) where the Attys still do it but they will never admit it.

According to some of the comments I’ve read, the Duke kids should be penalized because they are wealthy and the accuser should be believed because she is poor.
At this point in time, too many are penalized for being wealthy.
The good Lord gave us our abilities and the constitution provides us with the freedom to use our God-given ability and talents to make life better.
There is nothing wrong with being wealthy if the wealth is obtained honestly. On the other hand, being poor does not mean that we are unsuccessful.
Courts are now favoring the poor, which is just as unfair as favoring the rich. For Nifong this was a political strategy. He’s even more guilty of lying than the accuser. She was mentally challenged and he was not.
