Nancy Pelosi: Wins 0 Loss 1, House Democrats Defy Pelosi and Elect Steny Hoyer … Pelosi’s Mandate?

Nancy Pelosi suffers a major defeat right off the bat.  Ã‚  Madame Speaker, maybe you haven’t a clue why the midterm elections went the way they did. If you bet on Pelosi backed John Murtha as the next Democratic House Majority leader, you lose.

Spin it anyway you want Madame Speaker Pelosi, you just lost some major street cred. House Democrats defied Nancy Pelosi and named Maryland Representative Stenny Hoyer as House Majority leader. This after Nancy Pelosi openly backed and stumped for John Murtha.

Steny Hoyer was elected 149 -86 over Murtha. That’s going to leave a mark. This has to be one of the most foolish moves ever by a Speaker-elect. Nancy Pelosi’s boy got 37% of the House Democrat’s vote after Pelosi vigorously backed him. Nancy, can we say you have no mandate?

  

His margin of victory reflected a pre-election strategy in which he showcased support from moderates, veteran lawmakers in line to become committee chairmen and more than half of the incoming freshman class — the majority-makers whose victories on Election Day gave the party control of the House.

(Ok, yes that would be loss #1, but I’m really a moderate & bi-partisan  )

Seems that Nancy Pelosi and Democrats  will learn the hard way that maybe its not just the President or the Republican Congress that voters were upset with. Maybe it was liberalism as well.

   Wouldn’t be great if they had a no confidence vote for Nancy next and she never got to pick out the drapes in the new office…

   At least Hoyer has some “human-looking” qualities about him. Both Nancy Pelosi and Murtha look like one of those aliens in disguise out of Men in Black!!!

   Tom,

   I think it actually may have been one … maybe not one of no confidence, but one of … “you are not the boss of me”.

   There are many blue dog democrats that were elected and not on any platform that Pelosi ran on.

   So does the defeat of Murtha mean the rank and file not want a “cut and run” strategy?
