Morning Update

The Report is out via blog and newswire in the Netherlands on the status of the Father of Joran Van der Sloots visitation rights. He will be allowed to visit his son in jail. The newest development that I have heard this morning is that Joran’s attorney, A. Carlos  will not be allowed to see Joran for 8 days. This is because he talked to witnesses and other people involved in the case. Amazing as it seems for Americans, this is forbidden in the Dutch legal system. (Thanks Gerben)

We will have more information throughout the day.

I hope this will be a supervised visit !!!

Gee, what would the ACLU say? Could you imagine? I think very few people in the US can remotely begin to comprehend the Dutch legal system as we have become to accustomed to even criminals that have signed and verbal confessions plead not guilty. A system where you are guilty until proved innocent, interesting.

I’ve been following this story very closely
and am hoping for a favorable resolution.
However, as time goes by, hopes are growing
increasingly dim. I am saddened first and foremost by the disappearance of Ms. Natalee
Holloway, and I am also distressed that this
occurred on Aruba. This lovely island had
long been one of my favorite vacation spots,
but now I am given pause, to say the very least.
Certainly, though, this could happen anywhere.
I continue to be much impressed by the grace and poise of Natalee’s Mom. I cannot imagine how
she manages everyday, but she does.
Surely, I would like to see things resolved more quickly, but this is another country with
a judicial system quite different from ours
in the U.S. Here’s wishing all the best
to the Holloway-Twitty family. What an example
      they’ve been to me.

    4. chris on June 17th, 2005 9:34 am

I’m willing to bet that joran’s father will encourage his son to put forth more details about that night. I’m betting it will seem like an “unsupervised” visit, but of course the tape will be rolling. His father’s reputation and career hang in the balance, if he knows what’s best for the entire van der slut family, he’ll push his son for more details………

    5. crs on June 17th, 2005 9:42 am

As scary as it seems – as time goes by – I am starting to think the brothers are responsible and not Joran.

    6. chris on June 17th, 2005 9:47 am

Yeah, I’ve been following this story for two weeks now and I can’t seem to stop searching for more details on the web. I vacationed in Aruba for an entire week 7 years ago and I enjoy looking around at the freshly posted pictures of the island. In Aruba, you’re forced to relax because there is absolutely nothing to do(somebody earlier this week mentioned the cart ride up to the donkey preserve zzzzzzzzz). An over-priviledged, gangster wannabe dutch boy and his two “buddies” have probably done permanent damage to a boring island. Their boredom alone certainly plays a part in all of this.

Questions: Why include “chaperones” on a trip like this when excessive alcohol consumption appears to be a part of the vacation? This was a smart girl? Who in their right mind gets wasted, then rides off into the darkness with 3 strangers? What kind of chaperones did they include on this trip?

      CRS,

You see? What I have been saying yesterday is falling into place.

    8. crs on June 17th, 2005 10:05 am

Checkme – You may be right. i also got a vibe though from watching the news here in the US and watching interviews with local that quite a few people think she is still alive.

    9. crs on June 17th, 2005 10:07 am

Is everyone seeing this news up top about the 4th arrest – how great would that be if this girl is still alive. I started to get that vibe last night and now it seems possible.

    10. hammer on June 17th, 2005 10:07 am

Beth Holloway-Twitty is a genuine American Superhero !! They should make an action figure out of her.

      Look at what she’s done:

      1. Immediately upon learning of Natalee’s disappearance, tells Jug to get on the phone to that Alabama State Senator. 10 FBI agents enroute to Aruba within hours.

      2. She commandeers a private jet and is on the ground in Aruba within 12 hours of learning about Natalee.

      3. Critiques “investigation” and wonders aloud about “cover-up,” scaring the pants off the PM, who comes groveling to her and family pledging to “everything they can…”

      4. Says the 2 security guards had nothing to do w/ Natalee — they’r realeased in 24 hours.

      5. Pins Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe boys — they get picked up (though way late).

      6. Keeps the pressure on by continually saying the three young lads know something: “…they know what they did with Natalee that night…”

Beth Holloway Twitty is virtually running this investigation. And she has remained reolute throughout: she’s going to “bring her daughter home.” The best part is that she’s the most powerful person in Aruba right now. Can you imagine the international reaction if she screams “cover up!!” and means it? What if she said these two words: “Boycott Aruba”? They’ll be eating insects on that isalnd for the next century. She’s got ‘em all right where they need to be — and good for her.

What a woman. Beth Holloway Twitty for President!

Beth has been great – I hope rumours are true of NH being alive!

    12. KatCall on June 17th, 2005 10:10 am

This case also reminds me of the Chandra Levy case. The intern that came up missing in Washington, DC and one of the main suspects was a Congressman from California, later he was exonerated in the case. Authorities searched over and over in the rock creek park area where she was last seen jogging. Apparently, ONE YEAR later her remains were found in the exact area they were searching. Amazing! Her leggings had been tied together in knots! Sometimes authorities don’t always do a thorough search and sometimes, investigations need a set of new eyes to review the case at hand.

    13. Checkme on June 17th, 2005 10:14 am

If she is alive, which is likely if you look at the profiles of the 3 incarcelated now, especially Joran, nothing much is known about the 2 brothers (which worries me), remember Dutch are very sensitive not to create a racial storm, they are now out to investigate everything about Joran so that nobody can say that there was a coverup or something. The 27 year old is from the house in savaneta with the grafiti truck… he is not Joran’s friend but the brothers’.

    14. Paulo Esquire on June 17th, 2005 10:16 am

      Chris,

Most excellent observation! I’ve wondered about these alleged chaperones from day one. It seems as though the number of actual chaperones there, however, keeps changing. I’ve read 12, (a 10:1 ratio), 11, 10, down to 7 in all. If no one knows how many there were who on Earth knows what they were doing? Certainly not their jobs!

If you have time today, check this site over in it’s entirety. There are interviews from the other students at Carlos and Charlies who were with Natalee right up until she go into what she believed was a “taxi.” Apparently it is not unusual for folks to grab a ride with Aruban locals; especially one’s who have had previous encounters, as in this case.

I do not want to be perceived as insensitive whatsoever. However, there is far more to this matter than, “…attractive blonde meets rich guy in paradise…” I believe that Natalee is alive. I also believe that miracles do happen all the time and everywhere. Just think of the Fulton County Court House and the blonde who was abducted into her own apartment by the murderer, only to have surrendered after she read to him from “A Purpose Driven Life.” Miracles do happen.

americaninaruba has some great stuff here. I admire his wanting to get the facts together first before really going public. Cheers!

RB – Thoughts on the latest arrest?

    25. chris on June 17th, 2005 10:26 am

You know, I heard about the “…..looked like she got in a taxi…..” statement, but that’s soooo weak. I saw his car on the news. It was a silver Honda Civic, aftermarket wheels with modified taillights (altezza lights or something). That’s a really tricked out taxi…… The worst chaperones of all time. Not that this should detract from the real tragedy here, but something I couldn’t help but notice.

    30. RBinBham on June 17th, 2005 10:32 am

crs – first, is the friend a friend of Dutch boy, or the brothers? I tend to believe this morning (maybe not overly hopeful) that the Aruban authorities have evidence/info on the situation, but they’re simply not sharing it in the way we would here in the US, which may be good or bad. Thus leading to this arrest. It’s like my life is captivated by this incedent.

Still alive? We all hope, but I’m not holding my breathe. I’m going along with the “drugged her up” and then discarded her theory. If she is still alive, the mental scars will be deep, I’m betting……

    35. crs on June 17th, 2005 10:37 am

Rb – according to checkme on the boards he is friends with the brothers not Joran but msm is reporting the opposite, I tend to believe checkme as they are local. I am starting to think Joran got a bad wrap.

    36. RBinBham on June 17th, 2005 10:39 am

crs – that thought had crossed my mind as well. Not sure what I think yet. Why have we not see/heard of any search taking place at the brothers’ houses??

    37. crs on June 17th, 2005 10:39 am

Chris – we aren’t local and I am honestly getting the vibe this girl is alive, I started to get it last night after watching an interview Greta did with one of the locals.

    38. crs on June 17th, 2005 10:40 am

RB- they did search the brothers that was when they got the grey honda and the computer harddrive – many people mistakingly believe that was Joran’s house.

    39. RBinBham on June 17th, 2005 10:42 am

wow, I was mistaken then as well.

    40. RBinBham on June 17th, 2005 10:44 am

if she is alive, do you think she is being held on the island or is she at another location besides the island? what are your thoughts?

    41. Kris on June 17th, 2005 10:45 am

      crs,

I agree with you. Maybe everyone, myself included were to quick to jump to a conclusion about Joran. But still, what does the comment “something bad happened” said by whomever, I don’t recall, mean. Is it possible that the 3 were with Natalee, met up with this other guy around the time of the phone call from the other side of the island and then something happened? It is all so confusing. I also think that there is a lot more information on the case then we are being told. In order for them to solve this they would need to keep a lot of information quite, as frustrating as that is for us who are continuing to pray that she is still alive!

    42. Kris on June 17th, 2005 10:46 am

oops sorry quiet not quite. My bad

    43. crs on June 17th, 2005 10:48 am

RB/Kris – No idea – I would tend to think another island but islands are very hush, hush, people do not talk for fear of reprisals so I would not be shocked if she is on Aruba and has been the entire time. I have been one of Joran’s harshest critics but I started to think last night its the brothers.

    44. observer on June 17th, 2005 10:48 am

Upon what logical basis and evidence are you guys starting to shift the suspicion onto the brothers? Has it been proved that the search occurred at their house, that the items and car seized were their’s, and the guy arrested today was their friend. I’m all for open discussion, as long is it’s substantiated.

    45. Kris on June 17th, 2005 10:49 am

      RBin,
I wonder if this 4th person, has access to a boat, as did Joran. Perhaps she is at another location, taken there by this person and that’s what they ment by “something bad”. Then again the 3 are young kids, maybe that statement just ment that she was raped, not to belittle that idea. I don’t know just throwing my ideas out there.

    46. KatCall on June 17th, 2005 10:50 am

      Marshall:

Isn’t there enough violence in this world. Talk about what matters and that is NH and not about assaulting someone. You just might end up getting yours WHOOPED!

    47. Lucy on June 17th, 2005 10:52 am

I continue to beleive that they are all on this together, perhaps including the parents. Las Friday, Joran’s mother stated in her interview with Foxnews, that his son had not come forward, because May the 30th was monday, he had final exams and was very busy with school that day, yet, he was out past 2:00 AM.

    48. crs on June 17th, 2005 10:53 am

Observer – is anything really substantiated in this case right now? I don’t think any of us with the exception of checkme are local in Aruba. It is all specualtion. Based on what I saw on fox and cnn the car and the computer were the brothers but they have been wrong before. Checkme told me earlier and yesterday this fourth suspect is the brothers friend not Jorans.

    49. chris on June 17th, 2005 10:53 am

Kris – if she is alive, I’m guessing she’s still on the island. These retards couldn’t even keep their stories together, much less coordinate an off-shore-kidnapping plot. Unless suspect number 4 is savvy enough to mastermind something like that, she’s still on the island.

When they drained a pond the other day, my hopes that she was still alive were out the window…… to me, their actions that day said alot about the evidence and testimony they have………

    50. RBinBham on June 17th, 2005 10:53 am

Kris – that is a possible scenario for sure. I have so many questions/scenarios, and remian open ended because I have no eveidence to formulate what I think happened.

    51. Kris on June 17th, 2005 10:54 am

      Observer,

Like previous posts, the brothers would stick up for each other and try to “sell out” there friend. Other things that I have read are that they just sort of hung out with each other once and a while and were not really “good” friends. As far as the search of Joran’s house, it is anyones guess. But why is it we have not heard anything from the brothers parents about their innocence, or a search of there house, etc. I think it goes along with them not telling us everything for fear of jeporadizing the investigation. I would like to say it is all logical, but the whole situation has been illogical.

    52. ydave on June 17th, 2005 10:56 am

Aruban police made a 4th arrest early this morning in relation to the investigation into the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway. From ScaredMonkeys.com, the blog that appears to have scooped the mainstream media on this one:9:17 am: From on…

    58. chris on June 17th, 2005 11:04 am

crs – true, most of the stories from the media have been full of holes and end up false. At this point, authorities have probably flushed a Quran down the toilet to try and make Joran talk :\ I’m just basing my prior statements on what my gut tells me, much like everyone else here.

Here is a portion of the story:
      “”
ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Authorities in Aruba arrested a fourth man in connection with
the disappearance of missing Alabama honors student Natalee Holloway (search), officials said.

The new person detained is a 26-year-old friend of Joran van der Sloot (search), who was with Holloway the night she disappeared, sources said. The attorney general’s office identified him only by the initials S.G.C.

      “”

    67. observer on June 17th, 2005 11:25 am

Money talks. Since it looks like these locals have inside info and are reluctant to reveal it, do you think the American authorities and NH’s family have hired private detectives and operatives to buy information from the locals on the ground. Cash sometimes equals information.

    68. Jake on June 17th, 2005 11:39 am

My opinion is that suspect # 4 is Joran’s drug supplier. After searching Joran’s home, police found evidence of some sort with suspect # 4. I do not think this person has anything to do with the disappearance of NH. This is a diversion.

    69. Jake on June 17th, 2005 11:48 am

Observer – I think that would be a great idea for the family to do, although I think they are doing it themselves. I think each day the family and friends of NH go out on the streets of Aruba and look for clues themselves. I know that if that would be my daughter, that is what I would be doing. The reward is up to $55,000.

    70. KatCall on June 17th, 2005 11:48 am

    71. Don on June 17th, 2005 11:50 am

I know this sounds bad but I think Natalee might be better off dead. If she is alive and has been sold into some sort of sexual slavery, her life would be unbareable. Ive heard of the Venezuelan Sex trade where kidnapped girls are forced to have sex up to 60 times a day.

    72. BL on June 17th, 2005 11:57 am

If she were alive, how come the boys wouldn’t admit to it? I hope to god she’s alive.

    73. jgirl on June 17th, 2005 12:07 pm

Remember they traced a cell call made to that island at 6:30 am the morning Natalee
disappeared. Doesnt it look like that was to take the body to another island after,
“something terrible helped to Natallee”. Telll me your thoughts> I hope she is alive!!

    74. observer on June 17th, 2005 12:07 pm

Don – that’s a bit insensitive, although plausible. The lesson is to avoid these places and the locals there, or to take ultimate precautions – I’m not trying to be judgmental but it seems like the governments and local influential people in developing countries and localities will do whatever it takes to avoid making themselves and their people look bad. We forget – we are dealing with 3 kids — they should be easy to crack. The fact they are not is b/c they’ve either killed or her sold her into slavery. She is not being merely locked up in someone’s house, because if she was, these kids would have revealed it in return for a reduced charge of kidnapping and making false statements (rather than being charged w/ murder).

Even if sold into slavery, she’s probably been killed b/c of the media attention to this. Venezuela sucks – I hear their government did not crack down on human trafficking until a year or so ago.

Also, just because the 2 Sunamese brothhers’ parents have not been publicly defending them does not mean that they parents know their sons are guilty. Perhaps that family is just not as connected politically and the media likes the idea of focusing on the more interesting family story of the connected kid w/ the political judge father.

If she is alive (and I hope to God she is), and was taken to another country, maybe they thought they would “quietly” aske the family for randsom $, get it, and let her go, but since this case got SO BIG SO FAST, now the kidnappers ar scared to let her go, especially that the US and the FBI are involved.

Remember one said,”I killed her” I don’t think that was a mistake statement, though
I hope it was. It all points to body taken to the other island for disposal. Please I hope I am wrong,.

Thats interesting on that link to Joran’s photos it shows mrs. vandersloot’s resume and she mentions her favorite place in south america is venezuela. does that mean that joran has ties and connections inside venezuela?

A couple of nights ago on NBC they had a program on psycics that solved police mysteries. It was very well done and very believeable. I think they should try this. What would they have to lose? It certainly couldn’t hurt.

    80. jgirl on June 17th, 2005 1:54 pm

Psychics are all over the islands, I don’t know why they havent tried more of them.
Why did I hear there will be more arrests,? What the heck is going on here?

    81. KatCall on June 17th, 2005 2:00 pm

S.G. C. is Steven G. Croes from what I have learned on another board. He is a DJ on the cruise boat “Tattoo”.

KatCall, where is the other board you are getting info from?

So perhaps Joran is innocent. What a shame that you’ve already convicted him. Well that’s the american way I suppose…

I am a flight attendant and I flew the other day with the coordinator (head flight attendant) for the flight to Aruba in which the Mountain Brook group took to and from Aruba. She said the gate agent told the crew before they boarded, “A girl is missing. If she does not show up in the next 24 hours we belive she has been sold to be a sex slave. It is only a 30 minute boat ride to Caracus and this happens there.” That is so horrible! She also told me there were only 7 chaperones and Natalee’s friends did not report her missing until pickup-which could have made a world ofdifference to have had those extra hours.

To those of you who are blaming the chaperones, look around and see how many graduated seniors you know of in the US who go on a graduation trip with any chaperones at all. The chaperones on trips like this are not responsible for the behavior of the travelers. They are adults accompanying the young adults as emergency contact people. And when Natalee’s roommates realized that she was not in another room and reported this emergency, one of the chaperones stayed in Aruba and reported her missing while everyone else flew home.

I’ve been traveling to that island for 15 years and I know the geography and topography pretty well. If someone was taken to the lighthouse area, then perhaps around the north tip of the island, ultimately to the east side, someone could throw a victim off the side and they’d be gone forever. That side (eastern)of the island is only a couple of minutes drive from the lighthouse and it’s desolate. It’s almost like a moonscape. The coastline is rocky and very rough. I’ve also been around the tip of the island in a deep sea fishing boat and the seas are very, very rough there. Years ago they supposedly fed the sharks on that side of the island, to keep them off the hotel side. Even walking around on that end of the island can be hazardous. Once you leave the road or walking paths, falling on the sharp rocky ground, in the pitch black dark, would be enough to hurt you badly.

Last year we experienced our first bout with crime on Aruba. We were snorkeling off Boca Catalina and someone broke out our car window and stole what we had in the back seat. My wife was on the beach, maybe 25 yards from the car while my daughter and I were snorkeling in the water. Yet, she heard absolutely nothing behind her. Nor did any of the other families in the same area. Why? Because of the wind. It’s so windy on the island, you can’t hear a thing, unless you’re very close to whatever it is. Again, on the tip of the island, where there is nothing to interfere with the wind, someone could be screaming at the top of their lungs and you wouldn’t hear a thing 25 yards away (especially if you were upwind). It’s also super-dark on that end of the island, unless some of the few streetlights are operational. By the way, the Police were absolutely clueless when we called and filed a report in our case.

I love the people of Aruba generally and I love the island. But, those people move at their own pace and have absolutely no sense of urgency. It would drive you crazy if you didn’t just go with the flow. I think everyone interested in this case is beginning to experience that feeling of impatience with Aruban authorities.

I hate to say it but I think they (the Dutch kid) disposed of her (Natalee) off the northern tip or eastern side of the island. If so, I can’t see how they would ever find her.

By the way, I’m from Alabama too and I’m heartbroken for her parents. God Bless them and Natalee.

Wasn’t there a report of some sort of gangbang
tape or something like that,,, Whatever happened to that.

    94. Blackspeare on June 17th, 2005 9:43 pm

Let’s not go off the deep end—no pun intended. All this talk of white slavery and boats to another island are way off. This was an unplanned crime of unexpected sexual passion. Since it took place in the early morning hours, time would have been of the essence in disposing of the body. No time for a boat in the dark of night or going to the east point. She is buried somewhere. Remember it took 1 year to find Shandra Levy in an urban park and she wasn’t buried!

    95. Blackspeare on June 17th, 2005 9:47 pm

The chaperones were not chaperones per se. They were coordinators much in the same sense as tour guides on a pre-planned trip. What is of concern is that they choose Aruba because the drinking age is 18—nice reason to go. Paris would have been a better choice for graduating seniors!!

    96. AFriend on June 18th, 2005 1:16 am

i am writing this on behalf of people who know natalee and who, like myself, were on the trip. i realize there is no stopping all the speculation of the trip, of which is mostly if not all fabricated, but please do not speculate on natalee’s character or intentions. she is, without a doubt, the most independent, clever, and hilarious girl i know. i know there is no stopping speculative posting and gossip, but please take a moment to say a prayer for her safe return

Good morning for the Former Sheriff’s Deputy.

Lets not forget what got Natalee in to this mess!

      (1) Dumb as dumb parents who sent their daughter on the booze cruise of a lifetime.
      (2) Lame as lame chaperons who did not know what day of the week it was, let alone what these kids were or were not doing.
      (3) Natalee’s friends, who felt better to keep quiet about Natalee being out, for fear that her sexual escapades would be exposed.
      (4) The locals who animals to her.

Natalee’s should be investigated by DSS. These got to be amongst the dumbest of the dumb. I’d love to look them in the eye an scream “What were you thinking?”.

      The Deputy

      Former Sheriff

Your comments are meaningless, Adult children are allowed to take trips.

Your observation implies she willingly left… Is it not possible she was plied with some “E” or other drug and had the appearance of leaving willingly?

You are also missing the point that they chose an island that is relatively free of crime. The chaperones were not there to guide there every move.

Even if Natalee left with them willingly, she didn’t ask to be abducted, or raped or possibly murdered.

      Elisabeth,

why that lady doesn’t go to the police and tell what you heard? OR maybe you can go.It might help. What the agent said shows the fact that in Aruba many girl adoptions have happened. If one pospones to go and talk to the police, it might be too late . like in the case of the other girl who vanishe in ’98.

      >>
That’s really stupidity not to say anything about missing people.I don’t undestand why some people are so ignorant and stupid.

    103. katya on June 19th, 2005 12:18 am

Dont you think if many young women had been kidnapped for the sex trade from Aruba, it would be all over the news? The girl is probably dead, murdered by accident. Nice American girls aren’t sold into brothels; there are plenty of white girls from Eastern Europe who nobody looks for when they disappear.

I honestly am ashamed, as an American to read some of the posts here..people suggesting torture, for example.

And boycotting Aruba? Why? to hurt innocent people who have nothing to do with this crime? People get murdered, raped kidnapped almost every day in the US and many
times the perps aren’t caught..For example, check out martha moxley..it took US police 30 years to bring the killer to justice. http://www.marthamoxley.com/

If these bous were responsible for her death, they will be charged, why don’t you give the aruban police some credit. It seems obvious to me that they want to clear this up as quickly as possible, because of the effect on tourism..I certainly don’t have the impression that the families of the young men are powerful enough to sway the investigation.

You don’t know what happened and a lot of the stuff here about the arubans, the suspects and so on is just rumour and innuendo..

      Use your heads, people!!
